Yeah, it's a better idea to look at cultural practises rather than just official holidays. An awful lot of places here in Australia are now shut down until 7 January or 14 January and many others will have only skeleton staffing during that time.

Hmm - it seems that now the only bank account they list at the funding page is in Poland. In Poland 24th is not really bank holiday - but in practice not much is done on that day, and then 25th and 26th are bank holidays.

It's the Emperor's Birthday holiday according to the Bank of Japan calendar I looked up.

The following weekend looks to be a 5 day long weekend with the 31st December being a bank holiday, 1 January being the New Year's Day holiday, and 2 January another bank holiday. There's another national holiday on 14 January for Coming-of-Age day.
