So since we can use an external assistance does that mean it need not be possible in the forum itself?

I don't know if it need not be possible, but I'm pretty sure it ain't gonna be anytime soon.  This issue has been a thorny one for a long time now, and I've complained about it myself if I remember correctly (I would go back and search for a reference to said complaining, but you know....the search function here sucks, and I've never used the external workarounds).

Damn good thing I don't search for much in general and also that the member search works just fine.  That I do tend to use a lot.
Sigh unfortunately for those of us that relies on it.
Well I understand, it's not an immediate concern  but would really help newbies navigate the forum better.

Thanks y'all for your inputs especially with the suggestion on ninjastics.
Would have to lock the thread to prevent spamming.
Hopefully as time goes on it becomes something that would be addressed.

Even though there are few external websites that solve the problem OP describes, it would have been a little better if such can be integrated right into the forum because not everyone know about those websites. Personally, it took me a long time to even learn about bpip.org, and the works of Tryninja. I'm sure there are many forum users that do not even know about these websites and what they do. Perhaps keeping those functions away from the forum will make it better, that may be why the administration kept things running that way... they know better.

You're very welcome Smiley Our in-house "advanced search" should definitely come with these kinds of features, but considering that this forum has been heavily modified, even the smallest modifications would probably require altering a lot of other things and that's the biggest issue [unfortunately].

  • Normally, I would've said our best bet would be @PowerGlove, but this is what he/she said about this specific matter:
    • So, if you can think of something fairly specific that you'd like to see fixed/improved and you estimate it to be a small(ish) task (so, not something vague and big like: "Can you fix the forum's search?", or "Can you improve the forum's mobile-friendliness?", etc.), then please post it in this thread.

Forum's search system, it's been no longer minimally efficient for many years late. To make a significant improvement, it requires a great technical effort, to become effective miniman.

I don't say that you don't see it being done, but it's something that was still some time.

So the Ninjastic type feature, remains one of the best options we can use.

I agree with you, the search feature is broken and gives inaccurate results. I tried searching in other forums and the results were better, so it should be fixed. I remember a while ago that @theymos made some modifications to the search code, but the results are still inaccurate, while ninjastic.space gives better and faster results.

Ninjastic have that function. Before I knew about it is that I only use google to search and add bitcointalk at the end of the post and just check each results individually which is time consuming. Ninjastic is created is for this purpose just like the telegram notifier for it's own purpose. I can definitely relate to you about pressing and still no changes.

When searching long, aged threads, I simply use my initiative to locate the exact year I'd want to read. It's not too weary as you described to trace back to a specific year—just click on the middle page number—then trace upward or downward depending on the opened page's year. If a Jump to function is added to the forum, you'll still need to do the finding yourself.

Edit: Threads like WO can be too weary to trace
that's what am talking about
Not just the WO there would be threads that would grow as time goes on
Just pressing and pressing gets tiring when you have done more than 10 and you still in same year.

If there's an alternative am opened for it
You can achieve what you want to do with the help of "ninjastic.space [made by @TryNinja]":
- As far as I can remember, I've never failed to locate something with this tool.

Steps: Go to the Post tab > Copy the topic ID > Type the keyword in the Post Content field > Set the Date Range > Click Search.

Thanks it's working

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!
Perhaps the ninjastic space was created for issues like this. mind you, manually doing your research can be exhausting but it's quite okay not too much if you apply simple tactics that has been explained in some few threads dedicated to effective search in the forum.

I also believe @PowerGlove has said something (solution)regarding this issue but I can't find it.

Learning never stops!
I think you can use Ninjastic.space as an external tool for doing that, the default url Ninjastic.space  should help with that .Go to the navigation item >Post, paste in the topic you will be searching from and maybe a particular user /select the date range of the posts to be scraped, you might want to select it year by year  though because it starts in a decending order I.e from newest to oldest which means for example if you choose Start date as January 2019 to December 2019,then it will start from December 2019 to January 2019.
For ease of scroll you can just compact it or visit it directly by clicking on it.

This is not really on the search engine but if it would be possible to add a search section or jump on the section for moving through pages (next and previous section).

I noticed this while trying to check out the reactions of individuals in the WO thread during the 2021 dip and that caused by FTX

As the forum grows and certain thread grows bigger I believe this would be a problem in getting Informations.

I know barely nothing about coding, so just a suggestion if it's possible.
I can be different but usually I believe demands on this type of searching is very low. I did not use it too and perhaps I am different than you.

I usually try to search for information I need, that usually starting with keywords in topic title, then topic content. I barely search for contents of Mega threads during a specific period and I have a question, is it actual good demand?

For example, searching contents in posts within Wall Observer threads in 2021 is too much abundant searching. Again maybe I have different view than you.

Like other people told you, you can narrow down a time period you want for your searching.

I pressed and tried but got tired and couldn't make it to 2021.
I even tried searching for 2021 in the thread but found unrelated posts of 2017 and 2018 that had no semblance of 2021

As the forum grows and certain thread grows bigger I believe this would be a problem in getting Informations.
This is not just on the WO thread,  there are other threads like Stake your Bitcoin address here that would grow as times goes on.

And trying to get information across would be tedious without this.
If there's an alternative am opened for it because I usually tried Google Search then but thread that are brought up are quite limited.

I know barely nothing about coding, so just a suggestion if it's possible.
