When he finishes I would like to work with him on some sort of Bitcoin city contest. Rewarding the best city to travel to for tourists living on Bitcoin.

Maybe reward the winning city with tons of advertising and publicity.

When you do this, you become a ambassador for Bitcoin adoption. Every shop you visit or every hotel or Motel you ask for Bitcoin becomes a advertisement for the currency to be adopted. We need large groups of people around the world, willing to do the same.

When a tour bus stop in a city and every 5th guy starts asking about Bitcoin payment, these merchants will start to wonder, if they missed out on something.

When you travel the world, you have time to talk to people and also to educate them on the pro’s and con’s  of Bitcoin adoption. Who will lay the foundation for the next Bitcoin World tour?

Quite cool. I have hit most of western Europe and always try to hit at least one Bitcoin place in each new city I go to.

I like your story Elwar. You're a bit of an unofficial advocate of bitcoin. I'm a mere HODLER since 2014, accumulating regularly but I enjoy reading your experiences. You got in early enough to have made a lot of money.

How many bitcoins do they need for the whole trip? However I've just seen the blog and see them got 2 pizzas for 0.16 BTC, way much less than the 10,000 pizzas from 2010 Smiley Also their action (convincing others to accept bitcoin) is also a good action for bitcoin.
Wish their trip is a successful one.

Felix Weis has gotten used to blank stares anytime he tries to pay for something. Since January, the 28-year-old freelance computer programmer from Luxembourg has been on a trip around the world using only bitcoin.

this is great and a good idea!
maybe it's time for me to save bitcoins as well for travel.
i know a group buying site that offers travel packages that you can pay using bitcoin

You can also just go to Expedia if you want to book a trip or hotel etc...

Went through his blog quickly and the one thing that seems to come up is the 'ignorance' factor or rather the fact that so few merchants know about bitcoin.

We often see headlines about payment processors now accepting bitcoin which mean that thousands of merchants can now accept bitcoin. I actually wonder how many of those merchants are told in detail what it really means. The payment processors most probably just fire off a couple of mails to the vendors/merchants telling them that they can now accept bitcoin and that's that.

Anybody who ever ran a business will know that you do not always have time to go through all those emails you get from your payment processors and the like, so I believe that thousands of merchants might be able to accept bitcoin but don't have the faintest idea how to go about it and most probably don't even offer it as an option to clients.

That means we, the bitcoin community, should drive this adoption by asking to pay in bitcoin wherever we go just like this guy is doing. This will drive adoption.

This is something I would like to do....eventually. I wouldn't do it until bitcoin has become more popular though and you could find at least a couple of places that already accept bitcoin as it would be very very difficult right now but maybe that's part of the fun for him. Would make a cool documentary I think.

We must appreciate Felix Weis and his efforts in Bitcoin only trip. He may face lot of troubles to convey people accepting BTC as payment, but he succeeded.
