It would be a starting point in linking potential accounts together. You are right to say that just because someone mentions a TXID does not mean they are behind it however if you had the ability to read the post that mentioned the TXID then you could get a better idea as to if they were just discussing a particular transaction or if they were the one who signed such transaction.

Additionally many people tend to use the same address more then once, including across accounts. The use of a single account has been used in the past to help catch scammers

I'm a cynic, I'm a quaint
I have no use for this feature. It seems non-trivial to implement. I say it's not something that should be implemented.

What would happen if you ran this feature on say... Gleb Gamow? Just mentioning some transaction does not relate to ownership.

And "linking" accounts based on mentions of transaction ids or addresses seems flawed too. Suppose that a known scammer sends some BTC to a wallet you posted. Does that link your account with that of the scammer?

The core issue is that whoever is logged in apparently does not automatically have ownership of that account. That is a weird situation. I would hope that the new forum will be able to verify that the user who logged in actually has ownership. This could be 2-factor auth, or even some implementation requiring a signed message with a known key.

If the new forum has an option "Create proof of ownership" that would force the logged in user to strongly authenticate (signed message / 2-factor auth, whatever) would that take away your pain?

This would be good but it may have very low priority. Till then, if you know the address, you can input it in BLOCKTRAIL Block Explorer and go to 'Mentions'. You will find posts having that address from Bitcointalk, r/bitcoin and maybe other.

My proposal is to use it the other way around. Someone could input their username without knowing any address associated with the account and find all the BTC addresses they ever posted. If you know their address then you can use a forum search as is enabled now to find potential alts.

I prefer Zakir over Muhammed when mentioning me!

I think it would be nice to be able to have the ability to quickly find all the addresses a particular user has posted as well as all the TXID's a user has posted. This would provide ease in proving ownership of accounts, making sure accounts are not hacked, as well as link accounts together to determine if one scammer account is linked to other accounts via the blockchain.
