Perhaps, but for that you'd have to convince the rape victim to go through with the pregnancy first and with the existing law, they'd probably try to get rid of it sooner or later. If abortion is illegal (or/and stigmatized), there's always other ways. Here in my country women who were rumored to be pregnant out of wedlock used to have "accidents" on their own, like "slip" in the shower and have "bleeding".

I don't endorse forcing anyone to go through a pregnancy, however there are many options for contraception, abortion used to supposedly meet the standard of safe, rare, and legal. The rare part is out the window, and ironically the most unsafe part is the fact that repeated abortions can have serious effects on a woman's ability to reproduce in the future as well as other serious medical complications.

Unfortunately abortion is being treated frivolously and there is no upper check on its abuse. Safe, legal, and rare is one thing, this is not that. Being so frivolous terminating life is a dangerous precedent to set that has implications for many, such as the elderly, infirmed, or developmentally disabled. This roads leads toward genocide if limits are not in place. Some would argue it has already been genocidal. If you examine the racial makeup of abortion statistics you can see why. I don't think abortion should be illegal, but it still doesn't make it magically ok.

That's why I said I'd agree with it IF the cause of the pregnancy was rape. These women that are having multiple abortions in a year (looking at you Alyssa Milano) was due to them riding the CC like they're trying to outrun The Wall (they can't).

Putting some restrictions on abortion is a start if you are worried about it eventually sterilizing women (their fault, should have just used rubber) but IMHO it should ALWAYS be an option for rape victims.

.. if only the women had pre knowledge they were going to be raped, maybe they could prepare for rape better...  is that your solution..??!!

sorry but i think your missing the whole topic and whole understanding of rape

I LOLed a bit but yeah, that sucks. No one have to go through that. Not even men even if they can't get pregnant. Just a while ago I was watching the news about the conviction of an Indonesian student in UK that has raped possibly 190 men. Is it just me or it's getting crazier out there?

While I don't disagree with your stance here, there is always adoption...

Now I know the point of thread. I thought the OP was talking about a new type of rape kit that hasn't been tested for its effectiveness yet.

And yes, that's a lot of rapists that got to rape again, and reproduce even more. Spreading out their gene pool.

This is one time that I believe abortion should be morally acceptable. I'm not saying the kids would surely grow up into rapists but there's probably a larger chance that if they inherit the father's predisposition that they'd be crime-involved... Especially if the mother was forced to raise the child.

It'll always remind her of what happened, it's very possible she'll hate it. And you know what happens when you grow up knowing your parent hates you.

While that's an option as well, do we really want to flood the already underfunded adoption system / foster care system with more children?

But onto Detroit -- all of this isn't surprising. You have a city which was a industrial hub in the US, people flocked there for great opportunities and did well. It all went away like a Thanos 'snap' and that was the end of that. It's not surprising the city is in shambles and can't support itself as most people lost their jobs and the city doesn't have the tax revenue to be paying for much services.

Holy shit, it took them 10 years to fix the rape case backlog!? I looked it up when I saw this thread and it says they've only finished around April this year. Can't see an update if they've already had convictions for the remaining 500 cases.

What's troubling was that out of that 11000 cases, about 800 was perpetrated by repeat offenders. Those guys could have been raping more before they finished with this stash of kits. How is this happening in America?

Maybe they should start rebuilding the city with untested rape kits?

detroit has been bankrupt for the last decade. so dont be surprised by the stats

however the OP has a kind of batmans: ras-al-goul mindset thinking 'gotham'(in this case detroit) is not worth saving.

sorry but yes it wont be fixed over night but for the last 10 years it has had a mindset of lets give up. and look what happened

atleast now they are catching up on old cases, yes it will take time, but as they say 'rome wasnt built in a day'
lets just hope they pump tax funds into things that can generate new taxes, such as restarting industry(something detroit is known for) which will improve employment prospects. and not just be an endless sinkhole of tax spending just to stay stagnant

A warning about the city Detroit that is getting fixed up.  They might be able to make the city look better, but make no mistake about the inhabitants.
My experience from when I stayed there a few weeks a little while ago:  The creatures that live there, when they're not killing each other, burning down houses, running drugs, stealing, and torturing stray animals, might switch to trying to make things troublesome for you.  These things can't seem to figure out how to speak English properly and many are too dumb to even read or write.  And for a real good story, read about the 11,000 untested rape kits that took them 10 years to clear up.  Just thought I would warn you.
