No your merits stay but you also have sendable merits which stands for smerit. Every 2 merits you get 1 smerit which means you can send them to whomever you like or choose to. But your personal merits never go away they stay.

No, You do not lose your Merit but you will lose 1 sMerit (Spendable Merit). If you receive 2 Merit, You will receive 1 sMerit. You can spend that sMerit to a helpful post or good quality post.
