Maybe rather than pricing it in fiat, the price should be measured on how many grams of gold 1 BTC is worth. After all, gold is still considered money and such a measure wouldn't particularly favor any national currency. I think gold and BTC are much more similar than debt created fiat currencies anyway.
It order to come up with a figure, we would probably have to use some kind of weighted average from several popular BTC exchanges and several gold markets.

Nice, I agree with this.

Another alternative apart from Bitcoin vs Gold, could be to see the price on Satoshis:

1 Satoshi vs USD / $ 0,00009632

World population - 7,7 billion. Wink

The forum is focused on all aspects of Bitcoin, and this also covers the economic aspect, including trading and speculation.
I do not think a price ticker would be in contrast with the vision of Satoshi, but it is not also a priority. And if implemented, I would suggest it shows the price of BTC only. As that is the price objective of the forum.
as long as it can be turned off. i like my pages static. for me, basically any movement is annoying.
I also don't think it's necessary, it's just a forum.
Why do you need a bitcoin real-time price when you can just google it (or see it on an exchange)?
If I log in my account, I would like to fully focus on what I read, and what I type to discuss. I agree with @redsnow and @vapourminer that dynamic movements from glitched-animated-avatars or real-time Bitcoin price are annoying. It is better to fully focus on one thing to do at specific moment.

If you want to trade, open exchange sites, log in accounts, and trade.

If you don't want to trade, or in the process of composing your posts/ threads here, while bitcoin market is boring (there is no reason to trade bitcoin), turn off all un-necessary sites.

It is true that we all are very easily to be distracted by annoying or attractive stuffs.

Theymos don't want to relate the price of bitcoin with fiat I guess that is why he didn't want to implement the feature of one bitcoin is equal to how many USDs.

Even if he want the problem with the what price should report there, price from coinmarket or any specific exchange there is no absolute right prices to be honest.

I agree with you, this was also suggested by Hueristic in the WO thread.

I am thinking of an option in the user profile to enable or disable the ticker, it would be perfect.

Do I have to believe that no one had that idea before?
By the way on currency exchange section, people usually request for preev rates, if we will have bitcoin price on bitcointalk, I think instead of preev, a lot of user will use our forum and demand on preev will decline.
What about if we just remove text "simple machines forum" and set price there?

I have added it to my extension.

Thanks for posting here, I personally don't use add-ons or extensions between the forum and the browser..., and I think the same as Upgrade00, only the price of BTC and the equivalent in dollars.
But you do a great job anyway.

There is also the possibility of making this ticker profitable, but with the condition of not hampering the usability of the users.

The more I think about the idea of ticker, the more advantages are available.

I say nothing more. Cheesy

No, it's not necessary but I think it's a great idea.  It would be a nice thing to be able to see what the price is when I'm posting in Speculation.  I don't check preev all that often and I find that I have to before I write something speculative.  Not all suggestions have to be necessary in order for them to be good, and I think this is a good one.
It is unnecessary, I agreed. I do believe that no one in the forum don't observe bitcoin price when they boost their computers. Of course, if they have time to do spare things, and not have to completely focus on important works at their offices. For people whom dedicate their full time for bitcoin/ crypto, sure they will do check bitcoin price after their computers turn on.

In addition, real-time price of bitcoin might be annoying, sometime, when we need to focus on what we read and write. It is exactly the same like what was complained by community, and disable by admin, animated avatars.
Stop animated images in FireFox / Tor browser / Chrome
OK, APNGs are now detected. Old ones are grandfathered for now, in part because people have ongoing campaigns, but in the future I might (or might not) go through and remove them.

Anyway, this is userscript, so it can be used for personal favorites, I don't offend it, but I do think that people who support that script and actually use it will still sometimes feel it annoying.

I think this has already been discussed and the consensus was that it would be unnecessary (?)
I honestly don't recall it being brought up, but I might have had the new forum software section blocked or something.

It would be nice to have. Even better would be configurable trading pairs. User choice to see BTC/USD or BTC/Pesos, or even something like USD/BTC and ETH/ETC, etc.
Sure, why not?  Unfortunately it's not up to us plebians, but Theymos--and I don't know anything about the forum's software and how difficult it would be to implement a ticker.  I do hope he considers it.

That will be interesting to see, you might want to look at getting the exchange rate from somewhere like preev if they have an api (as they use an average for their pricing).
I think mrvuit can get it from Bitmex.
It seems they do not provide BTC price, I only found ETH, EOS ...

User choice to see BTC/USD or BTC/Pesos, or even something like USD/BTC and ETH/ETC, etc. Maybe somewhere in account settings, you could add maybe up to 5 pairs that would be at the top or the bottom of the screen. I guess most people use other sites for that type of function but would be cool to have here especially when talking in speculation, we can all 'ooh' and 'ahh' at the roller coaster together.

Depending on whether it's possible to encapsulate the price when it gets stated, there might be ways attacks occur on the forum to try to deanonymise it's users and it might get annoying for some people (like if we have a huge drop and they want to just talk about bitcoin but they keep seeing the price falling/rising from their target)...

It's been suggested many times. Probably won't happen, but I think someone has made a script for it.

Be careful when using stuff like this as you may be giving access to more than you should with a price ticker (one I know of was one that changed the address in the blockchain.com web wallet).

If you are browsing the forum with just one screen, tablet or mobile device, it is comfortable to always see the price of BTC.

Bitcointalk is the home of Bitcoin, he was born here,

1BTC = 1BTC, I agree with this, but the price always visible would be a good detail, for the forum and for BTCitcoin.

No problem, it was just a suggestion.

Here's how this will play out, when the prices of bitcoin increase/decreasing the percentages of posts created towards the price change will be more that usual and a major catalyst will be the price tags display as you suggest. People discussion what they see. If the forum was to pin any price tags, the 1Bitcoin = 1BTC reminder should be promoted as this will send a strong message to the community each time they see it.

I don't think it's quite needed, even if it's actually nice, but it's rather not a necessity.
The forum is meant to serve as a discussion arena, making the price of bitcoin visible would make it look more or less like an exchange for trading and also placing too much importance on what the price actually is.
You can simply log on to coinmarketcap in a split second to check out what the price is at.

Since I expect I'm not the only one that watches Bitcoin price in something different than US Dollar, I think that such change would either never be useful for everybody, either too much to work on it to make it configurable.
So I agree it's a feature we can miss.

I think this has already been discussed and the consensus was that it would be unnecessary (?)

If you really want this i'm pretty sure you can inject it into your webpage with JS and a simple script pretty easily.

As per Tryninja:
theymos (or some famous members) already said somewhere that this would make the forum have the "too much price dependent" vision.

1 BTC = 1 BTC. And that's what matters.

I'm not sure what his source for this is, couldn't find it.

(The image is just a sketch.)

I would like to see the Bitcoin real-time price on the forum.
A simple ticker on the top always visible would be enough.
In my opinion, it has to be a non-intrusive design.

Options:

- Only the price
- Ticker marquee, arrows green/red, %

If this proposal is viable, I think it would be easier to import a marquee from a reliable portal or exchange of reference.

Although a marquee with the price, the arrows in green and red with the percentages of profit or loss, would be perfect.

For people, Bitcointalk is the Bitcoin forum par excellence, for me a small Bitcoin logo with the price, it would be fine.

What is your opinion, you like the idea of seeing the price of Bitcoin in the forum?
