I agree with everybody so far, but decided to write a small list of potential problems (adding a few idears of my own, next to the idears already mentioned by other members) so the OP can check them all off untill he finds out what went wrong

  • You fell for a scam and aren't actually using coinbase, but a phising site instead
  • You forgot to actually create the transaction from your coinbase account (usually forgetting to click the button to actually create a transaction)
  • Coinbase didn't broadcast the new transaction (yet) (this happens when you use centralised webwallets)
  • You entered the wrong address when creating a transaction in your coinbase wallet (usually a copy/paste virus)
  • The transaction you created in your coinbase wallet was rejected (for example due to dust outputs or insufficient fee)
  • You're running a fake electrum version (did you check the signature?)
  • Electrum isn't connected to a node
  • You opened the wrong electrum wallet

Some of these things look trivial, but i'd still advice to check them all off...

im on 3.3.8 from https://electrum.org/#download and i've tried tracking the addresses for transactions but found nothing and i know its the right address because i found their private keys on electrum
Maybe Coinbase has not sent your Bitcoins yet or did you get any confirmation that they did?
Is your Electrum wallet synced and connected to a server, do you see a big green circle at the bottom right that says Connected or is the circle red?
If you are not connected to a server try to pick one manually from the list.

so any way to get my money back from an old address?
you don't need to do anything, it should be automatically displayed by electrum
if you are receiving bitcoin in an "old address", it should be there in your wallet
and after it's confirmed, it would be ready to use for your next transaction

... my coinbase wallet says it sent to the electrum on but electrum isn't showing any pending receiving transactions meaning i dont have any of the money i sent
... i've tried tracking the addresses for transactions but found nothing and i know its the right address because i found their private keys on electrum
are you sure your transaction has been broadcasted by coinbase successfully?
does coinbase wallet give you transaction ID? may we know it, so we can check it on explorer

i'm just asking because i see the addresses in my wallet and my coinbase wallet says it sent to the electrum on but electrum isn't showing any pending receiving transactions meaning i dont have any of the money i sent

Check if the destination address matches your previous address. If so, what version of Electrum do you use? Versions older than 3.3 have problems with synchronisation and the transaction might not be shown in the History tab. If you don't understand how you are supposed to enable the list of addresses then take a look at this picture.

What is your BTC address, if you don’t mind me asking? The one you sent the BTC from Coinbase.

Go to Electrum -> View -> Show Addresses. Now go to the Addresses tab and see if the address is there.

Also answer:
1. What version of Electrum are you using?
2. Where did you download it from? (The exact website)

right now i sent $450 to it and didnt get the pending confirmation waited a while then reloaded the wallet and the address changed. i've have the address still in my notes and screenshots of it saying its active when i sent it so wheres my money and how do i get it back

Are you 100% sure that you copied the right address? Try to check the said receiving address on the explorer if there's a pending transaction.

And where the funds came from? Exchange, trading platform, gambling site, etc. ? Maybe the withdrawal is not processed yet. Check your transaction history there.

@morphues101 I wrote two short tutorials on using Electrum. Check out the the one for beginners as well as the other for advanced users. Still, neither of them covers such basics.

There is no such thing as “old addresses”.

He might have taken that from my post. What I meant by that was obviously previous address.

There is no such thing as “old addresses”. All your addresses are valid forever and can be reused forever as many times as you want. Read the above post again. The coins are there, so what are you trying to get back? Better to get some understanding on how Bitcoin works before playing around with it.

Electrum generates new addresses for every transaction for privacy reasons. Other than that, this doesn’t mean anything. All addresses “lead to the same wallet” and are spendable in this same wallet they were generated from.

Example: I receive 1 BTC in address A, Electrum generates a new address B. Later, I receive another 1 BTC on address A and then 0.5 BTC in address B. I now have 2.5 BTC (1+1 on A, 0.5 on B) and Electrum generated address C for next transaction. All addresses (A, B, C and successively) can keep receiving coins and will count for my wallet balance.

i opened my electrum wallet and have my address set to never expire and i've sent and received on it before. right now i sent $450 to it and didnt get the pending confirmation waited a while then reloaded the wallet and the address changed. i've have the address still in my notes and screenshots of it saying its active when i sent it so wheres my money and how do i get it back

Addresses never expire. You can control funds stored on them as long as you have an appropriate private key. The address displayed in the Receive tab changes every time you receive your first payment to it. It's a privacy enhancement. You can still use the old address if you want to, but it is not recommended. If you want to see a list of your addresses then go to View and select Show Addresses.

You have confused 'Address expires' with 'Request expires'.
