Universities are too close minded.
I doubt they would fincance or accept an altcoin project for credit.
And if they did, they would need to accept the Uni's regulations and interference, what might not be biggest incentive to risk an creativity.

Many developers have already been to university, and had a job. So why the advantage for developing in a university, and would this be course-based work? Would the university fund an Altcoin BSc? Or is it part of the syllabus, such as a "Module in cryptocurreny"?
Plus, many students are really not that bright these days. What advantage would Bog University bring to the altcon game?

No matter where you developed an altcoin if the developer cannot overcome greed, the coin will always turned into scam.
There have been a lot of Shitcoins/Scamcoins being released everyday. Some host IPO's, Premine and some die after the coin is launched and developers make a profit out of it. I really liked the launch of IntelliCoin https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=720292.20.
These guys are developing the coin in university, and I believe that this is the best way to go about launching anything new dude to such a wide exposure.
A lot of new startups and companies(like Facebook) have come out of colleges and I think it is the best way for an altcoin to be developed as well. I think we should support coins with many developers, and coins which are continuously developed, even after launch.
