In my opinion I would get either 5850/5870 which would be if I wanted it to be more affordable and still perform, or try to get a 5970/6990/7950 if you only have one slot and want to max out as much MHash/s for that one slot.

To update after 1 year+: Radeon 7970 is the way to go now.

If the limitation is that you only have one slot, get a double gpu like 6990 or 5970.They might not be great in terms of hash/$ but you wont have to get a new machine to go with them, and you'll have the most Mhps you can get with a single pcie.

Well perhaps consider a 5870, you can get one reasonably cheaply these days and it will give you 400Mhash/s Smiley

Just my 5 cents Smiley

Hello all,

I'm currently mining with a 4890 @100MHash/s, abysmal I know. So I am looking at expanding my setup. My current motherboard only has one PCIe slot that the 4890 is occupying. I was thinking either just replacing it with a 6970 to get 400MHash/s (my goal BTW, at least initially) or replacing the motherboard with one that has 3 PCIe's and grabbing a 6870. Use both the 6870 and 4890 to mine and I should end up with around the same 400MHash/s rate. Thoughts on which to go with? Or if you have a better idea I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

Shows you can get 108mh/s with that 4890. Just replace it.

If you can fork out for a HD6990 you can get around 750 Mhps (if you have a couple of spare 6+2's on your PSU)
