It doesn't actually block access to the application and it definitely doesn't block you from accessing your coins (e.g. via other applications).
I don't actually use Ledger Live beyond using it to update firmware, and it has none of my coins or accounts visible on it, but does the password not at least encrypt the data? Is it completely bypassable for someone with physical access to your computer? Pretty major security flaw especially when it comes to passphrases and hidden wallets if someone can just bypass your Ledger Live password and see all your accounts and the balances on them.

Ahaha. My phone's autocorrect has a tendency to replace things with medical words I commonly use. My favorite one ever was "I've brought the new intern" to "I've bronched the new intern" (a procedure where we put a long camera down your throat and in to your lungs). Cue several concerned replies from the rest of the team. Cheesy

Here the problem was in the Ledger Live application, and the OP was given advice and instructions on how to reset it - I think it is quite clear that this is not a reset of HW. Even more experienced users are sometimes confused that by resetting Ledger Live they will reset their Ledger HW, which of course has nothing to do with each other.

The OP was pretty clear in his opening post and the title of the thread that he was having trouble with the desktop app.  Being a newbie and somewhat concise, people just assume there's more to the story.  More often then not, there is.

Glad to hear that everything worked out without much trouble.

Then you did not reset your hardware wallet.
Just to clarify, you were talking about the desktop application, right?

All sorted i just done a reset and did not need my seed (i do have multiple backups).

The password to this application is just a gimmic. It doesn't actually block access to the application and it definitely doesn't block you from accessing your coins (e.g. via other applications).

The most important part to keep safe is the mnemonic code. To directly access your coins you either need the mnemonic code or your set up HW wallet and the PIN.

Just adding all the coins back onto it now and it's quite a simple process

Thanks

Be careful with this. Make sure your seed is 100% correct before doing so.
I mean, you should always make sure you have multiple accurate back ups of your seed phrase, but in this case, it won't make a difference. He can't access Ledger Live anyway, and resetting Ledger Liver doesn't reset his Ledger hardware wallet or any of the apps or data stored on it.

If you don't want to reset Ledger Live just in case you have a brain wave and remember your correct password (if this is indeed the case, if not the bug described by Lucius above), then just install Ledger Live on a second hard drive, partition, user account, device, etc., and link your hardware wallet to that one too.

Why not reset your ledger live wallet?

Do you have a backup of the wallet seed phrase? If you have then you can recover your old wallet.

Follow the instruction from this link below

Do you really need ledger live?

You can use electrum to spend your bitcoin funds. If you have ethereum and tokens, you can just use metamask.
Do you have tron? Just download tron link, similar to metamask.

The truth is, ledger live is not necessary, and it isn't a good wallet also. It is just convenient.

I have messaged Ledger but WHY has this happened guys?

It's not a big consolation, but it's not something that only happens to you - Ledger has admitted that there is a bug when it comes to incorrect passwords on Ledger Live, and it happens to users who update from versions 1.x to 2.x.

The only way to reuse Ledger Live is to reset it as instructed and then re-add your accounts. It will take some time, but your coins are safe because resetting Ledger Live will not affect the security of your hardware wallet in any way.

We are aware of a rare bug like this if you upgrade from Ledger Live 1.x
Our 2.x is a major update that also improve the encryption of the app data, it involves an automatic migration which most of the time works but it appears there is a rare bug some have experienced

Are you talking about password for Ledger Live software or about passphrase used for creating new account on your device?
Passphrase is also adding extra layer of security for your coins, and I think it's connected with your PIN code:
https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005214529-Advanced-passphrase-security?docs=true

Make sure you have your seed phrase backup in safe place and you can try resetting your ledger live password following link posted above by BitMaxz.
This will erase all settings and accounts and then you can choose new password and add your accounts again, or just use Electrum wallet that I prefer.
