Hi Guys,

I am Camille the founder of Galerie Penelope, a French antique jewelry online shop.

I have just launched the possibility to pay there with crypto currencies BTC after a customer asked me about it for his proposal ring.

What do you think about this initiative? How do you think I could improve it? Would you be concerned?

Many thanks for your help, your feedback is much appreciated / sorry for my English: I am French and new in this forum, be kind  Wink .

This is a very good initiative but volatility will be your number for integrating cryptocurrency on your business as payment method. Your best chance to do it is to find a 3rd party payment processor to automatically convert all ingoing Bitcoin payment into Fiat. I hope that you are well aware on cryptocurrency price move because it might affect your business profit in case you don't have 3rd party partner.
Very good point but I guess she can convert all the coins into USDT using an exchange or there must be some service for this for sure. Third-party payment options can only be used like Bitpay but I guess customers would rather prefer to pay directly than through a third-party provider because from what I have seen in the past, bitpay sometimes ask for KYC and it's a headache although last time I used it to buy a VPN, they asked no such details.

Lovely to see this by the way and I suggest you to post in the local section as well, we have a lot of Frenchmen here who must be anxious to shop with bitcoins locally so they must know about your jewelry shop. You may visit the french local section here.

Excellent initiative because we need such shops where we can pay with bitcoins and I must say that this will only help your sales since you are only adding a payment option and that takes nothing from the customer already shopping from your shop while enables you more buyers as there are people who want to shop with BTC exclusively.

How you can improve it? Maybe by adding more options and I can see after visiting your website that you have listed ETH logo at the bottom alongside BTC so you must be accepting both the coins, which is a great start already. You can add more coins soon maybe and there could be a separate discount or range for crypto buyers if that suits you.

First of all I want to ask you that crypto is regulated in your country? if yes then it's a good decision you have already taken.

So now talk about the volatility , this is the big problem or a big advantage of crypto. Anytime you can profit by holding it , anytime you could lose. So I always suggest you to accept only big potential crypto like bitcoin and eth, and You could also accept stable coins. And if you just want to take crypto as payment method and don't want to hold it anymore then I will suggest you to cash out this at the same time of payment.

Adopting Bitcoin as a payment method to your shop is a good decision as you could also find the targeted pool of customers who are capable of investing in jewelry. Most of the people who are into Bitcoin are the ones who are very rich that can afford diamond rings with gems on them. Maybe you should add an English version of your website which you can add BTC logo there not just on shopify.

It’s good to see that you have implemented Cryptos as a payment getaway.
But as other members have said, i too can yell you on the fact that this may be risky.
Volatile nature of cryptos can really give you huge profit or else can make you bear heavy losses.
You can alternatively create a payment getaway from Bitcoin that converts the crypto to FIAT and Digital cash reaches you.
Hope this clarifies some of your doubts OP.

Good that you've been interested on it Camille when a customer asked for you. There might not be that much of customers to ask you for that payment as you accept bitcoin for your jewelries.

Find out if there's an online crypto wallet or exchange that's originated in your country. It's easier for you if you can use that wallet for your shop and exchange it as soon as possible/automatically if you don't want to hold the paid bitcoin to you.

@SFR10: that is good to know, thank you. It might be a bit complicated for me for the moment, but I will definitely go for it if we have a lot of crypto currencies payments !

@PotatoChips: these tips are soooooo helpful, thank you so much!
About the place of my post, it was deleted from the "trading discussion" place, so I guess the right one is here Smiley

Have a beautiful sunday,

I have just launched the possibility to pay there with crypto currencies BTC after a customer asked me about it for his proposal ring.

I wonder if he's the first one who asked? In any case, it's always nice to see another merchant accept bitcoin as a payment method, good work and best of luck to you op!

Demand is most likely gonna be a problem and to help with that, you can spread awareness about this by: (this is ofc without breaking any rules)

1. Posting in bitcoin communities

a. Français - This is our local board for french speakers. I don't understand the language but if there is a board where service/product announcements are meant to be posted, you should post there. I'll leave it at your own discretion @op.
b. /r/Bitcoin/

2. Getting listed in search engines/list of bitcoin accepted stores

a. https://spendabit.co/
b. https://cryptwerk.com/
c. https://bitcoinwide.com/
d. https://spending-bitcoin.com/

3. Getting listed in articles about this - if you search 'list of bitcoin accepted stores' a lot of articles will come up, see if you can contact them to list your website

Wrong place to ask. I think this should be asked in “trading discussion”.

It actually doesn't fit there as it's more on stuff about trading bitcoin against crypto/currencies. I'm actually quite confused myself as this also fits in service discussion or project development, I guess I'll leave it to the mods if they decide to move this thread.

Crypto Swap Exchange
How do you think I could improve it?
You're already off to a good start, but if you want to have full control over those funds, then you might want to consider using a self-hosted processor [e.g. BTCPay Server] as opposed to a custodial one [e.g. Coinbase].
Take note: Most of the self-hosted processors are a bit more complicated and that includes the conversion part as well; In other words, just ignore my suggestion if you're after an automated process.

You can find most of the other processors in the following link: Awesome Bitcoin Payment Processors

@Coin_trader

Thank you for your tip, I use for the moment coinbase commerce, and directly send the founds to my bank account once I am paid.
Is this method good? Do you know a 3rd party payment processor to use?

And I was thinking of maybe keeping a part in crypto currencies to play with the volatility ...

I have just posted it there Smiley, thank you
