It takes money to make money. If you have super cheap electric you might be able to make an older miner work for a while but even a used s7 is going for $700-1000 these days.
1-2k gets you nothing in the Bitcoin mining market right now. S7s and Avalon 6s are your best option and even those are selling around $1k as of now. You might get better deals here but that is if you can even find them on sale. Cloud mining is risky and I wouldn't suggest it unless it's from a legitimate source like Bitmain's Hashnest. Difficulty's rising very quickly lately too, which changes on a whim but it's just some food for thought.
Just bought an Avalon 6 for fairly cheap before it sold out. I wish I could find more at a lower price :/ I know everyone says that about any miner, but I really like these things. Want to stock up on them and R4's once the miner scalping dies down a smidgen.

Where are you finding a good miner for 1-2k

In all seriousness, I think it would be best to start saving up for one. By the time you have enough saved up the market may become a little more saturated, and prices may become better (not likely anytime soon IMHO). I think an ant miner S7 is the best "bang for your buck" in this market. You can find them if you are lucky for <1k.

I sold my old miner because it wasn't profitable anymore and for a while wasn't very involved in the cryptocurrency community. I'm looking to start mining again but dishing out 1-2k for a miner isn't a possibility right now. Are there options for people like myself other than cloud mining?
I can't imagine people give these things away or offer financing but I figured you guys would have some ideas/input.
