The US government is now going to hold back aid to the Afghan government for failing to have a more inclusive government but their announcement coincides with the fact they Afghan government and the Taliban are having issues. Maybe it is a way for them to pressure the Afghan government to get a move on in the quest for peace and stabilisation but the timing of the US announcement does raise questions.

The Guardian: "The Taliban refused to begin talks with the Afghan government’s new negotiating team on Saturday, in a setback to the US-brokered peace process for one of the world’s longest-running conflicts"

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/28/taliban-refuses-to-talk-to-afghan-governments-negotiating-team

I hope that the situation there can be resolved because things have been extremely bad there for decades and keeping in mind the current coronavirus issues it would be better for all parties to get around the negotiating table to conclude a deal that leads to a lasting peace.
Taliban are looking forward for positive response from Afghan Government but they are not going to do any positive thing as talked few weeks back with USA like Afghan Government not going to release thousands of taliban which is biggest set back and now taliban are not going to talk them until this happen.

Guardian report:

"Afghanistan peace talks stall over planned prisoner exchange

Afghanistan’s political chaos has deepened with disputes over presidential election results and a planned prisoner exchange delaying peace talks with the Taliban even as the US starts its troop withdrawal.
"

Full article: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/11/afghanistan-peace-talks-stall-over-planned-prisoner-exchange

This problem and stumbling block has not stopped the US armed forces from withdrawing from the country, some 1500 US armed forces have already departed Afghanistan in the last few days and more are supposed to follow until there is a complete withdrawal. The danger is if the Afghan government and the Taliban stall in their peace efforts, where does that leave the US administration for future armed forces withdrawals?

that doesnt look good the west should have never trusted afghans, americans are stupid, humanism doesn't work on muslims, they will backstab each other over and over again except they are getting enslaved by their chaliph and their warlord(emirs)

india will have to defend itself somehow, potentially with terror, muslims will face living under a terror threat, for the decades to come.

The attacks between government and Taliban continue in places around the country. The US will inevitably support its ally thus this peace deal might not hold in its current format.

I hope there is peace in Afghanistan and everywhere else around the world but the basis of the Doha deal should be respected or it should be re-written and hopefully all sides can agree on updating it.

I wonder if the US troops will leave Afghanistan then this is going to improve the way of Living of Afghans.
There are so many people from Afghanistan that they are trying to reach Europe and more specifically Germany, along with the refugees that fleet from Syria.

Did the Taliban design modern weapons? Did they mine the metals, and grow the trees (for stock wood)? Did they make the weapons? No! Of course not.

The US bought Middle East oil, thereby giving them the money. They bought the weapons from the US, Russia, and anywhere else, with the money we gave them for the oil.

And now do you think that a treaty will stop the Taliban? All that the treaty really is, is a method to keep the Taliban from coming over to the US and fighting us on our own soil. After all, we are supporting them with our weapons. And Russia is supporting them with theirs.

We couldn't beat them. Let's hope that they don't come over here and finish us off. When they start buying/building ships and bombers, then start to really worry.

Cool

US jets bombed Taliban fighters in Helmand province just days after Trump hailed the peace agreement. Things are not looking good for the peace deal Trump was lauding just a few days ago.

LA Times states: "U.S. warplanes carried out an airstrike against Taliban fighters in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, just days after the two sides signed a tentative peace agreement that now seems at risk."

Not exactly just yet though. There are problems a day after signing the deal because of differences. Even if things go ahead without any issues it will be over a year before US troops are withdrawn from Afghanistan.

it is not possible to end a war with the taliban

Actually is possible. just happened. I think that means they won. Afghanistan for afghans, finally!

+1 to this.

I know that Afghanistan and the Taliban are having issues with their end of this deal, and ya know that's to be expected. Kinda hard to sign a deal between a terrorist group and a country that has been plagued by the problems of this terrorist group for the longest time.

Current news on this part of things - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/01/mike-pompeo-us-taliban-deal-afghan-rejection-clause - But this is yet again, to be expected. This is between a country that was plagued by the horribleness of the Taliban for years. I'm going to assume that the people of Afghan want to be tough on the Taliban, and the US just wants this to end.

But ya know, we'll see.

afghans will have to fight hard for their freedom to have a country where foreigners will invest into, with some kind of productive non stone age economy, there is no way you can ever life peaceful with the taliban.

afghanistan is not the graveyard of empires it is the battlefield of empires, the british where in afghanistan fighting against russian supported nationalists,
and the americans supported the taliban against the ussr.

afghanistan can only get peace if the world powers will stop using it as a battle field, and the afghans would actually want to develop their country.

BBC news website states: "Afghan conflict: Taliban to resume attacking local forces" (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-51706126)

Well it seems that part of the deal did not last long...

What stuck out to me about the deal, was the release of 5 thousand Taliban fighters.  There are to many interests that will fight proxy wars from this location to be peaceful.  Would compare it to Syria at a slower pace.

Oh goody. Trump pushes something through so he can tick it off his list for the election. I love when those in government make intelligent decisions.

There are already problems a day after signing the deal because they Taliban expected 5000 prisoners to be released but the Afghan government has declined saying it was not part of the deal so I wonder what happens next?

"The US and the Taliban have signed a landmark peace agreement after nearly 20 years of war that could result in American troops leaving Afghanistan within 14 months.

The deal also paves the way for talks between Afghans to end one of the longest-running conflicts in the world."

Will this first step be a real step towards achieving peace after nearly two decades of war between the Taliban and the USA? Or is there some other sort of politics at play here?

no its not, they will continue to backstab you one way or the other or they will try to backstab someone else, i think it will be china india and the afghan democracy, taliban aren't workers they are vampires. they will likely fuck up the afghan government, or tell the afghan government to fuck up india, or Europe.

@JollyGood while this is an historic deal but I feel that it’ll not last for long because America’s government completely bypassed the Afghan government while negotiating with Taliban, and hence I’m not surprised to see Afghan government’s stand on releasing those 5000 prisoners. Secondly we can never know for sure if all Taliban people will adhere to this deal, as various agencies believe that they’ll be used by neighbouring countries to continue their proxy wars.
