~They even go as far as banning the trading of cryptocurrencies because they feel people might benefit from it. When the world is enjoying it. African needs to be taken to the hospital and given proper treatment because they are moving backward. More strength to their youth as many are still thriving in the harsh environment.

Most government are not comfortable with the idea of having crypto as an alternative payment option because of the power it gives to the ordinary people hence the reason they always threatened to ban or actually make good with the threat.

Africa is no different, the government don't want such freedom for the poor majority of people over there so they will do everything to ensure that.
If people don't have money and heavily dependant it will be easy to control them and this is what is happening.

If that is the case that mostly or let us say all politicians in Africa are rich people, then maybe there is something wrong with their governance or the way they conduct their elections. When you have that massive amount of money compared to others, you are having a lot more power to make things work in favor with you, if that is what their politicians do, then there must be someone or something that must needed to start doing the change if they really wanted for it. But there could be this other reason wherein people still elect rich people for they think they have the qualifications and capabilities to lead their country.

In many of the cases, the elections are not 100% free and fair. There is a lot of voter intimidation and fraud. On top of that, there are several countries which are controlled by military dictatorships. And even in cases the elections are completely free, a lot of Africans have the tendency to vote for the candidate according to religion or ethnicity. In a heterogenous continent such as Africa, that can create a lot of issues, when compared to the relatively homogenous European or Asian nations.
I think that Africa is one of the continents where it is very evident that the politicians are very corrupt, it is very similar to the politicians in Venezuela, where they do what they want with the budget of an entire country and where the people suffer from a lot of misery, this It is something that is very normal and that is a chain that will never end.

Among other things, the idea of these politicians greatly benefits those who are rich because they are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, just to give a clear example to Venezuela they sold a "socialism" where everything looks like it should be the same for everyone, and it is the biggest lie, in my personal opinion socialism will never exist, it will be communism that disguises itself in the word socialism.

Africa needs to fix continent, richest people are politicians

Huh!!! I like the content of the thread but the title is something else. If I may restructure it, it will be like this, "Africans need to fix the Continent, the Richest People are the Politicians". Africa being a Continent can not fix itself but the people (Africans) can fix the Continent.

Prior to the OP's content, I agree with him to some extent. Mostly in Nigeria where I come from, politics is the only means of getting wealth so everyone is going or joining politics to take their share of the National wealth by abandoning the national resources to be decay. The worst them of all is, the Politicians when they promised heaven and Earth to the poor Masses and the electorates vote them to power and would forget their promises and the people as we. African politicians are devil incanates. There are lot of Natural resources to the Continent but excluding crude oil. There is Palm Fruit, Sugar cane, Sand, Rubber, Ground nut, Fish, Timber (Trees), palm wine, fresh water etc yet, no politician is thinking of utilizing these abundance resources to create employment and developed the Continent but all of them are making the primitive accumulation from the crude oil.

As for me the solution is in hand of the electorates. Vote out all these bad politicians and replace them with genuine minded people.

What do you think is going to be a solution to a problem like this? The rate of corruption in government in Africa is really high. I think this is not something that are just going to do themselves, they are going to need help from other countries to solve a situation like this. I think it’s really time that everyone starts calling them out (people in power) and holding them responsible for the evil things and making sure that they don’t go unpunished. Just this year I have seen a lot of things that has happened on Africa, from ENDSARS and police brutality, to a lot more.

The government doesn’t care about what people are going through, they are just only interested in stealing funds and nothing more than that. They send their children to better countries to live and study have a better life, while they make the life of people in their country to be miserable.
I do not agree with this, those countries already receive a lot of help and other governments do everything they can to help the population of those countries and yet it is not enough and it will never be enough.

The population of those countries needs to stop this on their own, it is not going to be easy but nothing that is worth anything ever is, they need to put politicians in power that actually care about the population, this is a process that even if it started today it will take decades to be accomplished, which is one of the reasons no one wants to start the process and they prefer to let things continue as they have always been.

" Forget Dangote and the rest of the billionaires" why should we, they are normal people like you and me who worked for their money and reached the level they are now. For the politicians why wouldn't it be so with the amount they earn as salary and other allowances that accompanied the position and also after leaving the position. Work for your money and make your name this should not be a bother to anyone determined to be successful in life.

Sad that a resource-rich country like Africa is having problems and is currently listed as a third-world country because of poor decisions made by the ones that should govern them. Strong anti-corruption ordinances and laws must be passed and implemented in order to ensure the future of this country, otherwise it will just turn into another Venezuela.
I was reading an article where it was mentioned that the politicians and rich people don't even educate their children in their country, which also shows the education infrastructure has a hole to fill along with other problems. And like you said despite being a resource-rich country, it's a shame that they cannot even use the resources to good use.

Politician stole money and invest it in industries the reason why it is difficult to get that of Africa is because of the hunger and poor standard of living. Most African countries operate a democratic system of government. When the time come to make changes through voting. Voters are being bribed and they sell their right for penny
If the politicians are investing in industries it should actually somewhat help the country because it would mean more jobs and a better economy. I think they are investing the money abroad and that is where the problem lies. Maybe their tendency of thinking about themselves is what has killed their economy so badly. There are countries with the worst politicians but they still don't hurt the economy because they spend it within their own country.

Forget Dangote and the rest of the billionaires, the richest people in Africa are politicians. Africans need to reevaluate and rethink their system, so much power is given to the politicians and without any checks or balances. How can an ex-governor not be tried in court for his mischievous activities because there is a written document that said so who signed the documents is it the populace? They loot millions of dollars and stack them up for their families whereas the masses are suffering.
This categorically speaks to Nigeria. It's not because Dangote is mentioned there but because the scenario described aptly captures the whole thing. The looting political class are the real money bags in Nigeria. These people don't have business acumen and can't do any logical investment apart from indulging their flamboyant lifestyles. They suddenly become rich overnight once they get into political offices and this easily explains why Nigeria and the rest of Africa are where they're - in poverty and underdevelopment. A governor in one of the eastern states in Nigeria, during a public gathering laughed to himself when the speaker of that occasion mentioned Aliko Dangote as the richest man in Africa. It was a sinister act. The undertone of his laughter meant that the speaker was wrong by that fact and that him, the governor, was richer than Dangote even though he had no seen businesses he ran. The need to fight corruption was one major key points why people voted for the Buhari led administration which has now turned worse than its predecessors. This is highly regretable to say the least.

This is very difficult to do because the ones that have to push for this are the the politicians themselves and the ones that have to make sure corruption is at least reduced somehow is the justice system that is probably just as corrupt.

There is simply no political will to do this because as it is stated at the OP politicians are the richest people in most countries in the African continent which means they have no incentive to do so as they are the direct beneficiaries of all of this, and as long as that is the case then the rest of the population has no incentive to work hard and improve their lives as everything can be stolen away from them with such high levels of corruption.

I disagree with the last part. A large number of countries in the African continent are under military rule. I am talking about Sudan, Mali, Chad.etc. Some, like Libya and the CAR are undergoing civil war and doesn't have working governments. And even in countries where there is democracy, there are large scale incidence of voter intimidation and election irregularities. So you can't really blame all of the voters. But I agree that there is a tendency to vote based on ethnic and religious lines in Africa.
When we do talk about reality then there are soo much things that you can mentioned off when it comes on type of government and possible things that theyre attached into these kind of doings.
For those votes that had been bought off in the form of bribe then its up to citizens mistake where they do exchange out into their countries future for some amounts of money
unless if its still being getting involved for some manipulation of numbers. It does depend on the government which do control on a particular country.
Honestly, this doesnt only limit out on Africa but also into other countries as well.

Yes, they really need to do something about their countries, or else their leaders are going to ruin them. Most of their leaders don't have their children living in Africa, all their children are living in developed countries such as Europe, and the United States,, so they act anyhow and don't care about Africa and the countries there. They are all greedy and once they go into power they want to pack the money that will feed their whole generation, and that's their only focus and not about making their countries a better place.

If the people don't wake up and put an end to this, then it's really going to be a big problem later in the future, because their evil leaders are using them. I know it's not going to be easy for people to take action, but they really need to. Although one thing I am worried about is that for such a change to occur, a lot of people are going to be paying the price.

This is true for most part of the under-developed countries around the world. The politicians in these countries misuse their powers and keep their country men as they were the king and the public are their slaves. These people will never let crypto grow in their country because they don't want people to get financial freedom.
I agree and that is exactly what it is. They want this segregation of the Rich and the Poor. The Have and the Have not hence they will continue to do every thing possible to make sure that the people do not have their way to financial freedom, keep them poor so that they will keep depending on the Government.

So it sounds more or less dictator country rather than the democratic! Reminds me of movie dictatorship, lolz. The man takes the decision of every thing within his country and the money, well has so much he could just buy another country with it.

African politicians are more or less know very well that African people so poor and uneducated that it will take whole lot of efforts and money to develop the nation. They have set up their mindset on corrupting the country rather developing it. Because - that's the most simplest thing they can do.

Moreover, Africa is big continent and lot of ways to develop it. The one who holds more money will rule the big mass of land. Thats what will happen in a decade or so.
This is an important point, it is way easier to destroy something or at least to keep the status quo than to try to change things, even if a politician appeared that wanted the best for the people if the system was still as corrupt as it is now it is likely to think his life will be at risk.

And this is because all the rest of the politicians that are corrupt will see him as a threat to their standards of living and they are never going to allow someone like him to get to power and even if he did they may try to get him out of his position of power.

Due to a high degree of privacy, the penetration of crypto still relatively good in African countries but the receptive ability of people in these countries is so difficult when the politicians have gathered all their power and turned the lower classes into slaves as you say, very few people can break through this siege. Social class discrimination and the power of the political apparatus all made Africa the continent with the most poverty, it is difficult to solve when the politicians here do not allow the absorption of new advantages, they bind people within the old framework.

Well, they are good at shifting the blame. Robert Mugabe blamed all his problems on the "West" and his people were suffering under his regime. He was the President for that country from from 1987 to 2017 for 30 years and he almost destroyed that country.

Look at what is happening in South Africa.... The current government and local government is some of the most corrupt people on this planet. The so-called "Rainbow" nation has almost collapsed and some the Black people are the most racist people you can get. (Blaming everything on "White" people and "Colonization" and "Apartheid")

I work on projects in Africa and I go through South Africa to work in some African countries and it is quickly turning into a shithole. (Sorry if I offend people, but it is the truth.... I have been working and visiting Africa for 30 years and it is the worst I have seen it in almost 20 years.)  Angry

South Africa is one of the most developed countries in the African continent, and ironically the reason for that is the white population. Compare South Africa to neighboring nations such as Mozambique and Madagascar. If the white people were not there, then they would have been in the same state as the residents of these countries. And now the blacks are trying to exterminate the white people and already around 25% of the white population has emigrated to the other countries.

It does not only happen in Africa. Other countries around the world have the same situation whereas people do not have the rights to control their own country. Most of the power belongs to the richest, baddest and most corruptive. That is why bitcoin is created. The decentralization will become an essential part of the world when there are less people trust the current system

Don't worry. They can ban bitcoin but it does not mean people is totally prevented from accessing the blockchain. There are methods helping you to bypass the authorities and join the future revolution

I don't think they are against crypto because they don't want the people to find freedom financially, but I think it's because they are fool enough to not know enough about crypto themselves Grin else they themselves would be investing in crypto Grin these corrupt politicians are so gullible. If the common people mass protest physically and the army refuses to obey these politicians orders, it would be such a nice movement Grin

You know, in these cases I support the invasion of developed countries to overthrow the corrupt politicians, even if that's against ethics. While the collateral damages for a foreign invasion always results in killings of Innocents, this is the only possible way to restore people's rights and democracy when every other option is closed and people are oppressed! Sadly, most human rights activists ignore their pleas and focuses on political activities!

If politicians are the only people rich in your country then why people still elect them? On next election people should erase them on their balots and find those politician who have political will to make your country better. Its no use at all if citizens will continue to trust them since your country cannot advance if corrupt officials are still on tgeir sets.
The problem is in most African countries including mine, it is really not about the vote. Yes people understands this and some are willing to make the change but poverty and the entire corrupt system still keeps this people in office. People sell their votes for money, Pulling station officers are bought to change results. The entire system is corrupt it will take a miracle for most African countries to have a free and fair election.

As long as corruption has an effect the continent of Africa cannot be fixed there is a lot of inequality between rich and poor. Wealthy people do not interfere in everything in the case of politicians one example of corruption is tax evasion which reduces government resources the lost tax income may be invested in a productive project tax evasion on the african continent hinders growth because of inadequate taxes the government cannot increase public investment in public welfare which the private sector never does. In addition inadequate government investment in the infrastructure sector discourages private investment in the productive sector.

Corruption is one of the vital reason why africa is developing slow. I believe in their people but the officials there are so abusive in power. Another one is education should be one of the most prioritize project in the continent. I believe if people of their residence know more about their current situation, they will strive more and will try to pursue the developments where they should be.

That will happen if the government is literally corrupt and knowing African continent ? yeah they are the Most corrupt government in the world so No wonder why their politicians are the richest in their kind.

if they will change the  system then they will  change the continent .
they seem to extract the wealth of the country which was previously for the prosperity of the people and now for personal gain. therefore it is not surprising that the number of poor people is increasing. and I think there must be an opposition party to bring him down

there has to be an economic development on some part for people to realize the inequality in the area that they will revolt against the ruling politicians. but then most of the native Africans got used to it already which is much harder to make them get out of that realm. they have been that way for many generations and the new generations already see it as normal.

Is it like that just in Africa?!

Quote
Rodolphe Archibald Reiss (8 July 1875 – 7 August 1929) was a German-Swiss criminology-pioneer, forensic scientist, professor, and writer. When Serbia was overrun in 1915 he joined the Serbian Army in its retreat across Albania to return with the victorious Serbian Army when it liberated Belgrade in the final days of the war. He was known as a great friend of Serbia and the Serbian people and after the war decided to stay and live in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia... As a legacy to the Serbian people, he left an unpublished manuscript Ecoutez les Serbes! "Listen Serbs!"

So this guy wrote that manuscript, it's an interesting story... and there is one part about the government people... "I do not know a single minister who did not get rich during his term"!
He wrote that 100 years ago, and I think it's still the same! Nothing changed... People get into politics to get rich or to keep their wealth safe because these politicians are controlling the police, the military, and of course all sort of secret agencies!
I guess I understand why the richest people in Africa are politicians or close with them... it's the same here in my country. How to change that? What needs to happen? People to wake up?! I am not sure about that part...

it seems that greed and corruption are problems for every country, even though the death penalty is imposed, this seems to have become a human trait that tends to have no satisfaction in itself, making it a greedy human being. but in every country, of course, there are various ways to reduce these human vices, and I am sure that the future will be better
The problem is that these corrupt people are doing what they want because they know that they have connections that are so powerful that they are deemed untouchable. If the people woke up from all the bullshit that these corrupt people serve, I am sure that we will be able to slowly destroy corruption.

This map carries a lot of incorrect information, I wonder who created it. Besides, it's over 10 years old.

Got it from Wikipedia, so it is not entirely reliable. But the information is at least 90% correct. A majority of the African countries are shown to be under some form of dictatorship (either military or civilian). Countries such as Chad and Sudan are still under military dictatorships, while military leaders have been overthrown from some countries such as Zimbabwe. But it gives an overall picture. The number of military dictatorships is much higher in Africa, when compared to any other region in the world.

There is the discussion. Everyone talks about soviet union, venezuela, china, cuba and many other places and say that it is a failed communist state and nobody talks about the fact that ALL the power is at the hands of the few. Anyone who read animal farm would know that communism starts great but then becomes horrible because people who are at the top is untouchable and anything that they say is the law. As long as that continues, it will always be a problem. Same goes for most other nations as well.

I find it kind of funny when I see George Orwell (who was writing his books - fiction books - as a warning to society he lived in) being referred to as a source of knowledge about communism Smiley And you are quite wrong about being untouchable too. I'd elaborate on that but this would be offtopic for this thread.

I know europe is not bad about this, they are doing alright, and even USA is doing "decent" by most nation standards because they can at least change their presidents whenever they want to vote that person out (which happened recently). However there are so many nations where there is one person and they keep becoming president for life, and that is the real trouble.

How many years is Merkel at power? And Helmut Kohl before her? Or Bush family? Mind you, I'm not pointing fingers, just trying to say that everywhere is more or less the same. We live in imperialistic (refer to Marx for clear definition) world that is ruled by capital. Presidents are just the store front.

I believe that we can reach that point, yes the human nature is pretty selfish but if little by little we raise at least a small percentage of generation that is virtuous, I think that it is enough because they know what to do, they raise more of it and lead. The problem with the USSR is that it landed on the hands of Stalin and almost everyone on the position of power is power hungry.

They even go as far as banning the trading of cryptocurrencies because they feel people might benefit from it. When the world is enjoying it. African needs to be taken to the hospital and given proper treatment because they are moving backward. More strength to their youth as many are still thriving in the harsh environment.

Sadly there is little hope for countries that have not gotten their act together already. Many countries in Africa are either crippled by in-fighting, or (as you say) the politicians are flooded with money from overseas. First it was "western" countries that used to ferment unrest and make major profit from the locals, many of those countries have cleaned up their act a tiny bit - in the form of anti-bribery and corruption laws that apply to their people everywhere. That just left a small void which has since been filled by less than ethical countries like China. China is a rising power and will take advantage of any country that can be useful. They will happily take over assets like ports (which can help their fishing fleets) or mining operations, in return for things like rail infrastructure improvements. These improvements do help, but cost huge sums and of course the officials get ridiculously high pay offs. Cryptocurrency will do a lot to help the average person in Africa who do not have access to banking and need secure ways to store digital currency, however they do need access to reliable internet services to achieve this as well.

I really wish for that, but it’s going to be a really difficult thing as any one of them that goes into politics gets corrupted by the evil leaders that are already there and they end up being the same people. When a good sheep finds itself in the midst of corrupt sheep, there are many chances that it will turn out to be the same.

But, all we can do is hope. Although I do think that sometimes it’s up to the people, the leaders are just like a reflection of what we are. And when we don’t hold these people responsible for bad stuffs they do, things will continue to be worse. So it’s up to us as the people to always react and fight against bad leadership.

I'm afraid that's just impossible. It's in human's nature, I doubt it will ever change.  Entire human history is a story about greed and corruption. By the way, that's exactly why USSR failed in their dream about communist society where everyone gives to the extent of his abilities and receives anything he wants.

it seems that greed and corruption are problems for every country, even though the death penalty is imposed, this seems to have become a human trait that tends to have no satisfaction in itself, making it a greedy human being. but in every country, of course, there are various ways to reduce these human vices, and I am sure that the future will be better

I can quite agree with you. The system in Africa indeed has to change for it clearly is not working. Too bad though, we cannot do anything unless we are the ones to vote there. And even if we are, how much can we amount to when the people there themselves do not even vite for the country but for themselves. For their selfish biefs. People in Africa needs to set aside their own religious crap along with their other biases and vote wisely for the whole country. Change can only start if they stop complaining and actually start doing it within themselves.

Money is root of all evil so this kinda expected and itsnso hard now to eliminate the corruption since it already became a tradition unto that country, Maybe the least citizen can do is to choose next time the best leader what they since if they pick another corrupt official this corruption issues will no end.

I typically see Africans and others who are becoming "advanced or modern" as those moving backward.. When anyone wakes up from sleep, he/she realizes this truth as well. Everything is turned upside down in the Matrix.

The one who controls the matrix controls the world's politicians. Puppets are simply playing the role of the puppet master. If you fight his puppets, you will likely fail or have lots of problems. The best thing is to create a society he can't control and to have your own truely chosen leaders to guide and lead you... Else you are part of the Matrix and slaves of the one who controls it

This tangy of respect and the clear division of riches and poverty weaves in the pot I don't find anything strange either, and do you think the great nations are holding back their development, and they will not be able to reach out because the upper classes have complete control of everything. It may take many years for us to see a better Africa than it is today, and that costs a lot of money, not a reconstruction of each nation's political systems.

Corrupt politicians won't disappear in the foreseeable future. After all they're all bought by transnational corporations who finance their election campaigns in return for new juicy contracts, mining licenses, concessions etc. And if someone independent comes to power then we see a "lack of democracy" scenario with another "flower revolution" or whatever they call them now. Where are people in this picture? Right, no one gives a damn about them.

Here is the map of different regime types in the world:

As you can see, with a few exceptions such as Syria and Myanmar, the vast majority of the military dictatorships in the world are from Africa.

This map carries a lot of incorrect information, I wonder who created it. Besides, it's over 10 years old.

Africans have a tendency to elect leader based on their ethnicity and religion, and this means that a lot of corrupt people are elected to power. And in case where they are unable to get elected, they will just stage a military coup and seize power.

Africa belongs to the top 10 poorest countries in the world. It saddens me that they are part of the list because as far as I've read, Africa is rich in natural resources. So how come that many people from their country are suffering from poverty?

One answer I can think of is that the government in their country does not know how to handle their resources. Their government must prioritize their citizens because that's what they oathed during the day they were officially elected and appointed in their positions. Unfortunately, most politicians are greedy. Instead of prioritizing the welfare of their constituents, they put their self-interest at the top.

According to statistics, more than a quarter of the hungry population resides in Africa. Most people living there are classified as malnourished because they lack a nutritional food supply and even potable drinking water. Meanwhile, the politicians are savoring their wealthy lifestyle while all else falls apart onto the poor. I just hope people will be wiser next time to not repeat the mistake of electing greedy and corrupt politicians that make their life more difficult.

Corruptions will never be stopped on that continent or on any part of the world because that’s already part of politicians, I’m so sorry for the Africans for being left behind in terms of so many things. Someone should stoop up who has a clear conscience to serve people and to help Africa to become great unfortunately, politics are still powerful and most of then rules the country for years now, and after that the other family will be placed on that position. People should find their way out of poverty, don’t depend too much on your corrupt government because they’ll not help you.

Depending on the government will not provide the things that you wanted to achieve in life. They need to elect a fresh blood but don't know what it would take for that to happen. But for the moment, if you are residing in that region, just help yourself out of poverty. Maybe in some ways, you can be of help to your countrymen like giving jobs and such. Corruption is everywhere and it is up to you how you will change your fate in life.
Electing new politicians is fine but its just a temporary solution to end corruption because on their middle term, I’m pretty sure they’ll start suspicious deals and the cycle of corruption continues. The poverty will end if you stop depending on your government and start working for your dreams, African nation should not be limited on what their government is setting for them, they have to look beyond that.

He must be included among politicians and I have my reasons for not excluding him.
Dangote is a business man and the same time a politician. A very monopolistic billionaire always have his ways of playing around the current government and has his ways with his company and there by oppressing the common industry who could not meet his level.
African as whole especially Nigerians need to wake up from the slumber they have been since the sixties, we can't continue to rule by those who are only interested on their friends and families.

Yes, the corrupt rulers and politicians are the ones who control the people in Africa and the poor countries. They do not care about the people or their suffering. All that matters to them is to fill their pockets of the corrupt money that they steal from the people, so they make decisions that keep power and money in their hands while the poor people suffer.
Most of the countries are corrupted to the core and the politicians will not change as the greed of making more money is their ultimate motive and hence they keep accumulating millions while the country remains poor.

But despite this, I believe that Bitcoin has given poor people a window of hope to obtain their financial freedom and get rid of the unjust restrictions that the rulers impose on the poor people, despite all the laws that try to ban Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, but people can still do so and overcome all these difficulties.
Bitcoin is supposed to help create a market without restrictions but there are many hurdles to overcome to obtain the financial freedom they want including free trade and commerce globally and if a country bans the use then it is hard for them to use bitcoin in trade and commerce and it will be used just as an speculative asset.

I understand a situation like this, and I really think it’s high time that the people rise up and fight for what’s right. Though from my observation, based on things that I have seen happen in those places, their youths are usually divided and that means they can easily be distracted. And their politicians are always looking for ways to outsmart them at all times.

I think any day they all decides to come together and fight for what’s theirs, they are sure going to be unstoppable. If they keep voting these rich men, they are not going to help them, because most of their leaders are just interested in their selfish needs, they only come to loot money from their countries and that’s it. So people really needs to say a NO to all that.

I have no idea how anyone would find a solution in situations like these and you need a revolutionary change, you have given politicians more power and the people are not auditing what they are doing and depending upon the country there will be general elections and you need to stand up for your rights and vote for the appropriate candidate rather than making one individual sit in the throne for a long time.

You need to understand that what we see in many countries in the African continent is not democracy and instead it is just a bad parody of it.

When that happens and the government does not perform its main functions which are to keep people safe from internal and external threats and to enforce contracts then this is what happens, there is no incentive at all for people to create as everything can be taken away from them and the only way to make money is by becoming a politician and steal all the money that you can, this perpetuates the cycle and once you are in that kind of cycle it is almost impossible to get out of it.

You also have religious leaders as among the richest in Africa but that's another topic. The problem stems from the general populace's poor choices when it comes to electing officials. They just elect whoever they think will help them in a swift manner, and not someone that is really going to help them in the long run. Same as most poverty-stricken countries today, most of them elect officials that knows nothing about governing their people, or just elect someone that is a popular figure in the country without even knowing the law.

It really can't be helped as long as the poor isn't educated about the importance of choosing who is to take the helm of governing the country or their regions.

One of the reasons why Africa is so poor is due to the popularity of foreign religions. Both Christianity and Islam have managed to wipe out the native religions and traditions. And now the competition between various religious sects (all of them foreign) are very common in the continent and every year tens of thousands die as a result. On the other hand, the religious leaders lead a life of luxury. Pastor David Olaniyi Oyedepo is believed to be worth billions of $$$ (although officially his wealth stands at just $150 million), while a majority of those who attend his church earn less than $2 per day. He owns 4 private jets and has luxury real estate properties in the UK and the US. Bishop Allan Kiuna of Kenya is having a net worth of $4.6 billion.

Power tripping is still evident in all kinds of government, not onlu in Africa. Considering the poverty and famine being experienced by that country, heartless politicians still continues to milk from the country's natural resources and abused manpower. Instead of spreading the wealth of the country towards each community, they chose to put it in their pocket as their stomach gets full whilst children outside are dying from malnutrition or heat stroke even for the elders. As long as this kind of system continues, there will be more live at stake that may not be saved so let us hope for the best for this country.

The greediness of everyone who sits in the government is ingrained to compete to be the one who has it all. it is true that I heard the news about it. There are many different countries in Africa and their are not all the same for sure, but I reckon that is a beautiful and very fuc*ed up continent. The people in general are not ready for self-government due to the low educational levels - again in general - and the world powers are basically fighting over who takes more resources out of the people´s hands in many places. The only option left for many is to scape or join the regimes.

The only thing that I think would help is if Africans that live in western or powerful countries demand help for their nations and I think the first priority would be education and safety.

I assume you are of the opinion that the wealth of politicians is not accounted for and they are not put on the list of richest people, because the top recorded richest people in Africa are not actually politicians, but business oriented individuals, like in all other parts of the world.

Corruption on the other hand is a known issue which is faced by all nations, but is high in some African countries and negatively affects the populace.

You are wrong. The politicians hide their wealth, so it is not known to anyone. On the other hand, the businessmen can't hide their wealth since they deal with publicly traded corporations or private ventures which undergo third party audit. The politicians mostly get their wealth in the form of lobbying or bribes and this is done in a discrete manner, through offshore accounts. For example, the total wealth of Muammar Gaddafi before he was overthrown was estimated at $200 billion. Hosni Mubarak was worth an estimated $70 billion. Ibrahim Babangida of Nigeria managed to steal $13 billion from the Nigerian oil revenue in just one year (1992). No African businessmen will come close to these people in terms of wealth.

But in true sense of it can we really take corrupt government officials who have amassed public wealth to be theirs and we put them in Forbes list or Guinness record as richest people ? That is a No. You only identify those who have real businesses with addresses and offices . Also the real business people add to the growth of the economy because they employ individuals and better theirs lives but politicians hardly have genuine businesses. They push money away to other countries and build houses there because of the fear of being known at the home front. This is a sad story for Africa and that is why growth is eluding the third world countries, endemic corruption is a worse thing.

I don’t think that this only applies in Africa.  It might apply to almost all of the countries in the world and presumably, the main thing we had to rethink is to give rights to the government to have control of our countries like 100%.

Look what happened, I went to a government agency lately in our country.  It's our National SEC but looks what happened?
They wanted to collect money and they would say it is for insurance, but if you know the law same as me, insurance is not a must, you can decline the offer, but they insisted that it was mandatory.  And look, I escalated it and earned an apology from them.  I just imagine what if it was a different person who doesn’t have an idea with legal yet?

The problem is easily solvable if the organizations that was helping Africa was really helping. Just because they got the money and power doesn't mean that they will be untouchable because there are revolts that did that thing, French Revolution and Bolshevik Revolution are some of the of prominenet ones. If people starts knowing that they aee being oppressed they will eventually stand up for themselves.

The problem is that those people who are protesting ends up dead or go missing. Do you know what happened to Ken Saro-Wiwa, after he organized protests against the dictator General Sani Abacha in Nigeria? Or do you know what happened to Fikile Ntshangase who protested against environmental pollution in South Africa? Politicians hold too much power and if you stand against them, then be ready to risk everything including your life.
If enough people are fighting, it will be difficult to dispose of the heads of the protest, may the people who fought and die protesting for changes become a catalyst to wake more people up. The other problem that I forgot to mention is that if the armed forces are on the side of the people and in that way, it will be close to no bloodshed. Also, I think this leaders of the protest knows the risk because they still do it.

It's already a well-known fact that corruption runs deep in Africa. Yes, I believe that the citizens also want to change those in seats of power, but it's been too long that the power is rooted quite deeply imo. That doesn't mean that it's impossible though.  I'm guessing that they just need someone to actually lead in the forefront though it's a lot easier to say it than actually do it.

On the note of banning crypto, try as they might it's still close to impossible to actually completely ban it. Those who want to use it will use it, and they'd honestly find ways. Cause if it isn't possible, then heck im pretty sure their corrupt methods also wouldn't be possible.

They got money and power so who is going to bring changes in the system?

AFAIK, now people from Africa is trying to evolve themselves by studying and working which may bring a change but it needs few generations atleast to bring the countries with free from corruption.

The Standard Protocol - Solving Inflation
Forget Dangote and the rest of the billionaires, the richest people in Africa are politicians. Africans need to reevaluate and rethink their system, so much power is given to the politicians and without any checks or balances. How can an ex-governor not be tried in court for his mischievous activities because there is a written document that said so who signed the documents is it the populace? They loot millions of dollars and stack them up for their families whereas the masses are suffering.
They even go as far as banning the trading of cryptocurrencies because they feel people might benefit from it. When the world is enjoying it. African needs to be taken to the hospital and given proper treatment because they are moving backward. More strength to their youth as many are still thriving in the harsh environment.

This is very true in many African countries especially a country like Nigeria. The politicians, even though elected in a democratic manner, adopt the dictatorship manner and are more or less dictators.
They don't care about the masses welfare. They don't provide any infractures neither security for the people. There have been a lot of cases of insecurity in Nigeria especially in the North. All they care about is how to amass wealth for themselves and their relations
The problem, however, still remains with the people because every election period,  they still elect the wrong people for some money.

This is true in many places of the world, thats why people try to be a politician in many nations. You can look at the asian continent, starting with China where the leaders and the party basically owns half of everything in the entire nation, and check out many many nations there where politicians are the richest people in the country. You can check latin america where politicians are once again the richest people in the nation.

You can check old soviet block where there are many politicians that are rich so its rooted in europe a bit as well. There are few nations where richest people are not politicians, sure the young president of finland may not be rich at all, but those type of situations are very rare doesn't reflect the reality. Which is why I think its quite obvious that we should not be looking at this as something that would be only limited to africa.

It's not only in Africa, there's a lot of countries with the corrupted governments. I'd even say that every government is corrupted, the only question is - to what extent. Some countries, like Sudan and Venezuela, are extremely corrupted, politicians are okay with robbing the country with billions of dollars, while others, e.g. Argentina, Greece, Italy are much less corrupted, but still, people are being robbed and not all the money is oriented to the development, as it is supposed to be.

And it's been going on for centuries with different nations, I don't think much can be done about it. We all know the stories, when the new President, which promised to end the corruption takes power and then simply becomes one of the people he used to fight. The same happens after the revolutions.

Something needs to change deeply in people's minds, money changes things, affects people in the way they could have never expected. Only if people start valuing freedom, moral standards, and each other more than money - corruption can be eradicated. But until then, it is what it is.

I don't like politicians who seem to side with the people, then torture us with all kinds of taxes. in Africa they should not be elected, they are not even interested in voting at elections. I am confused by the tradition of crazy politicians who come when they need the voice of the people, so that millions of hopes are kept on his shoulders. but this is a phenomenon that occurs everywhere, not only in Africa.

There needs to be an evaluation of the political actions there, they need to update the constitutional rules. it is very unfortunate, how miserable the African people are there.

Africa must get out of this system, and try to urge the government to re-legalize crypto exchange, this is for the sake of Africa's dignity as one of the largest countries in the world that lacks financial freedom.

Majority of Africa and a part of Asia are still living under dictatorship. That seriously needs fixing. But the question is how? Armed coupes and civil war is not a solution rather such kind of rebellion usually leads to more suffering. The only long term solution is education. Please educate your child well so that he can first do well in life and encourage their upcoming generations to do so.

There's no easy or overnight solution to end dictatorship. It can only happen with knowledge and education. Otherwise, nothing will improve and billionaire politicians will keep on eating out the juice from economy.

Like any other "partly free" country, India is also moving into the same direction and the current government is trying their best to destroy the education system of the country. Because they understand freedom comes from knowledge. It's easy to enslave an uneducated person than an educated person.

If you made that statement about politicians being the most richest people you may not be wrong and that is because of corruption is high and no accountability. The legal system too that is suppose stand in to protect or prosecute offenders are not doing this job, this may also not be surprising because the legal system is part of the whole part of the system. Everything that is done in most African countries are based on corruption.

Election is all based on corruption. To even acquire or indicate interest in contesting for political office is whole lot of money and IMO, this is where I think African countries are getting it wrong. The politicians see politics as a means of business and because of the "investment" , they would corrupt the system a lot to get richer than they were when contesting the election. This is not fair and most people see politics as a business on its own instead of trying to build factories for manufacturing that will benefit larger people and add to the country's GDP. Politics don't produce any product to the economy but self satisfaction and embezzlement.

If the richest people in a country are politicians than something is wrong. That is the first sign that there is a huge problem with corruption. Sure politicians should be paid well, but never more than other people in the country. If they are able to withdraw wealth from the country into their own pockets than something needs to change. Step one would be to make international pressure against these politicians, like don't allow their money to be stored in Switzerland or some other tax havens. Step two would be to inform the local population about the corruption so they will demand a change in the ruling party.

One of the biggest problem of the African people is that they have one of the most bad government and anyone's can say it directly as they are seeing it into the economy of the Africa, another thing is also that the voters are the first one who have the main problem here because they are the one who are choosing or picking on who they wants to lead them. If they are just choosing and picking wisely the ones that they want to be the leader then probably this will not be happen.

From what I have seen, the problem lies with the African voters. They always elect politicians based on their ethnicity and religion, without caring about their skills. As a result, a lot of undeserving people become the presidents. And when someone who is highly qualified is elected to that post, within a short time he is either ousted in a military coup, or killed by his own people. Check what happened to Thomas Sankara, Patrice Lumumba and Haile Selassie.

I agree, if the people are continuously oppressed by the rich people, then I think that a revolt that will lynch those in higher seats is a necessary thing. The only problem is that they have to make the police and the military side to them in the revolt against the 1% because if not, unnecessary bloodshed is going to happen.

If politicians are the only people rich in your country then why people still elect them? On next election people should erase them on their balots and find those politician who have political will to make your country better. Its no use at all if citizens will continue to trust them since your country cannot advance if corrupt officials are still on tgeir sets.
