Longest one I've had like that was 36 hours some time last year. I had several transactions after that which were confirmed before that one got confirmed. More recently I've had a transaction that took 3 hours to get the first confirmation. Sometimes it just happens that way, more often when a fee isn't attached.

Sometimes you'll get skipped for low amount, and low fee.
sometimes a block will take an hr instead of 10min

put these together and you could be waiting a while for a tx to go through.

once there is one confirmation it will be in the following blocks.

if it does take a long time for a block, it is likely the following blocks will not take as long.

Firstbits: Compromised. Thanks, Android!
It could take couple of days. Smaller transactions take longer to confirm than larger ones from my experience. Don't ask why. I don't have the answer.

The system is designed that way to encourage larger single transactions over multiple smaller ones (to save on processing and storage requirements.)

Once a transaction has been broadcast, there's nothing that can be done to speed it up as far as making it into a block.  If it is a valid transaction (i.e, not a double spend) it will eventually make it in.

If you are using the Bitcoin.org client, it must be caught up for it to show the transaction confirmations.

You can check the status of the transaction using Blockchain.info:

This had happened to me the other day. The block might be blank, then it takes long for that to pass, then the following blocks come in and then yours will pop up one confirmation. Don't worry as it scared the life out of me that my client was screwed up, but it came through.

Don't worry at all, it will come or leave Smiley .

It took nearly two hours for mine, so I am giving you an estimate time line that it might take. Might take less or more.

A bitcoin guru helped me with it, and confirmed it was a blank block, so that's how I found out and I used my patients.

Maybe your client is lagging, try running it with -rescan

I received some funds earlier today and it has been one hr. Still showing 0 confirmations. Any ideas?
Can you tell us this TX's hash so we can check it's priority ?
