Even the NYT is admitting now that the CIA director only stops lying when he´s asleep (Probably the same goes for those who hired the guy, it stands to reason) so the few that still are in doubt should get a clue soon.

Yes - interesting. Still, I don't suppose it will quell the calls for limiting encryption by Govt./security services. Its about gaining an advantage. Their (the Govt.s) communications will be securely encrypted - but ours will be open, transparent and in the clear. Check mate.
It could have been worse/more embarassing though - the attackers could (after the event) have been exposed as having communicated via yoghurt cartons joined by a length of string.
Like I mentioned in another thread, the IRA operated within the UK well before the days of encrypted comm.s over the internet - as did ETA, the Tamil Tigers,the Baader-Meinhof Group etc, etc
To try to sell us the curtailment of our own rights and liberties, protected by encryption, in the belief that it will actually strengthen them, is - in the light of the historical evidence to suggest the contrary - more than a little disengenuous I'd say.
Its also a bit like pissing on my shoes - and telling me its raining.

In the wake of the tragic events in Paris last week encryption has continued to be a useful bogeyman for those with a voracious appetite for surveillance expansion. Like clockwork, numerous reports were quickly circulated suggesting that the terrorists used incredibly sophisticated encryption techniques, despite no evidence by investigators that this was the case.
