Good day my colleagues here on this crypto space.
As a beginner or first timer on a forum like this it's not Always easy to keep up actively with the activities of the forum, we all can attest to that, we can also attest to the fact that at a point we felt like giving up, most times the activities of the day gets you exhausted that you won't even have time to handle your phone to either read, do research or make post especially at the beginning stage when the merits is not coming,
But what keeps us going?,  To me I have figured out somethings that keeps me going. They include.

1. Hunger for crypto knowledge:   it takes only determination and the Hunger to be knowledgeable to get a user so active on this crypto space, because every minute you don't come online to see what's happening on the forum it will look like you are missing something, and u will be restless untill you come online.

2. Looking at the bigger picture:  if you are interested in growing on this space then that should be an extra motivation to you to keep putting in the hardwork and looking at the future.

For me this are the two stand out motivations that keeps me going.
Please our experienced members you can add what motivated you to keep pushing, so we the newbies can be motivated too.
You sound as if you are more interested in the forum itself, rather than in the knowledge of cryptocurrency and Bitcoin in particular of which is the soul of this place.

What has kept many of us especially me, conversant and lasting and more consistent here is the fact that I have belonged to the Bitcoin family for a long time, but only grew in knowledge and its practices that includes trading, accumulating, wallet safety and application of it for transactions and payments across borders.
I have also learnt to keep being dedicated and consistent in this forum having known how to navigate and be secured from the possible sanctions or penalties that could be meted to any user in my country who either has a crypto currency account with coins in it or uses cryptocurrency for transaction and receiving of payments, through the local bank channels.

After joining as a beginner, the only thing that keeps you going is your consistentency in the forum, and not giving up.There are so many things that might tend to bother you or disturb you as long as the forum is concerned, and it is those things that will discourage you as well, but you must know your reason of joining this forum, and make up your mind that nomatter what, you are not going to give up.It is that mindset that will keep you going, untill you get to where you want to get to.
I can assure you that as long as you continue making quality post, and contributing impacfully to the posts, you will definitely get to the highest height here.

At first this forum is just a place where we come to share our individual experiences about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency with one another regardless of the fact that people earn here through signature campaigns but that doesn't mean we should not be committed to other physical activities that will earn us a living and in life you have to program yourself such that you will have time for every of your life activities either online or offline. There are some users here that comes to the forum within a particular period of time each day and apart from that time you will never see them online which means they are using those time they are not online to do some other things in their real life or on some other things online but may not be on the forum.

As a beginner, no matter how quality your posts are you shouldn't be thinking about merit yet instead you should be thinking of how to acquire knowledge from people who have been active and exposed about the forum and the discussions going on. You can also ask questions where necessary but not ecstatic questions.

Hunger for crypto knowledge as you so put it is not supposed to be an afterthought or something you decide to do after creating a bitcointalk account. If learning about cryptocurrencies wasn’t your motivation for joining the forum to begin with, then you will have difficulty finding reasons to stay. The forum has a variety of topics and broad discussions, post wherever you have an interest in. You may discover you’re mostly interested in topics in a particular board than you’re in others.
Yes, instead that should be your prior aim before you decide to enter bitcointalk forum. Because we all know how how educative and informative the forum is, so by knowing that, at least one should set his goal first and all his intentions before joining in the forum because that will serve as your guide or path to follow when you are already inside the forum.

However, learning could be my first goal, but along the way, it seems gaining more of my income is what keeps me going. Yes, I would not lie about that, but of course earning in the forum won’t be possible also if you don’t have a great motivation to learn in the first place.

In my case, during the years my motivations have changed. I joined this forum with the goal of learning about Bitcoin and other altcoins, but I was introduced soon to bounty campaigns and, since I had no job at that time, I started to be interested in them. When many ICOs failed I felt discouraged and my activity decreased, but a few years ago I came back with a more open, different mentality, and now I value more the friendship I have built with many members of my local board and the ones from the AoBT, and I also feel good trying to help with my little experience every time I can.

In brief, you may sign up as a newbie for one reason and stay for many others you didn't expect.
Same with my case. My first goal was actually to learn better about bitcoin and altcoins, but when I’m starting to earn from signature campaigns, my goal then was to earn more and grow my income. But I realized, it’s not actually the income that really motivates me to keep active in the forum but to be honest, I learned to love the forum as well as it’s already part of my daily routine. I have this eagerness already to become constantly active in the forum, to grow my crypto knowledge and become more knowledgeable about the crypto space, and gaining an income on the side is more probably a bonus.

After Joining as a beginner what keeps you going on this forum?

I am usually very busy in the offline world, and I always make it back here eventually to see the excitement and what is going on in the Bitcoin universe. Bitcointalk.org has a unique mix you do not see other places.

For me, it does not end at just this two things you mentioned (number 2 snipped out), but then, to focus on your number one reason which you said it's, "Hunger for crypto. Knowledge", I would say that this is definitely true, but then for me, it doesn't end at hunger for crypto knowledge, for if was supposed to be a good reason, then I would have stopped coming to this forum a long time ago because as far as I am concernd, their is almost nothing new to learn about crypto here that I possibly can't learn else where, like on YouTube, Twitter(now X) and so on.

So, one important thing or reason I keep coming and staying active here (aside from the opportunity to make money) is the interesting discussions I get to contribute to, I like the forum so much in this aspect that, even if you are not promoting or advertising any project through your signature ad space, you still come to the forum and find alot of interesting discussions on different things to participate/contribute to, it's like one big hangout community where people can come, meet and discuss with new people around the globe, centered on crypto of course.

On the part of giving up, I think it doesn't happen in whatever we've interest in doing. One may be stressed out but not bored to the point of contemplating giving up. As for newbies coming in, I always suggest that they find sections of the forum that appeal to them as that will help energize their excitement to always return to the forum.

You can’t go through every board and acquire every knowledge at the same, this is my first experience when I tried reading and reading I could not understand what I read and funny enough I spent hours reading. At first the forum is about bitcoin discussion so I started with the bitcoin board and beginners and help board, I got to understand some different ideas and replies from threads up till now cause learning is a continuous process so I don’t think anyone can quite learning. The forum is pretty perfect mostly when you interact in a discussion thread and you get to learn from others too, when you give out you also receive except a user is not ready reading replies. The replies I read sometimes are more knowledgeable than the thread no doubt

I believe that every member that didn't have crypto knowledge before joining this forum, felt out of place in the first few months

I can totally relate to that because when I joined the forum, I wasn't just a newbie in here but I didn't have much knowledge about the industry. All I knew was that Bitcoin is a form of digital money because I used to claim Bitcoins from faucets before joining this forum. I stumbled upon this forum while researching Bitcoin and I was lost in the first few months after joining. I didn't know what I should do, used to surf around the forum, and read posts, didn't even know how things worked in the forum.  Grin

As time passed by, I started learning more about the forum, the rules, how one can quote someone and add their message, and how you can do text formatting, and add images, learned them all one by one, and I used to be genuinely happy learning all these things. I was also learning more about Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency industry because I used to read a lot of posts in every section.

There was no Merit system when I first joined, it was introduced later, so I was never chasing merits and always enjoyed learning.

I believe that every member that didn't have crypto knowledge before joining this forum,
That’s not entirely accurate. You must have missed the era of I’m a newbie to the forum but not a newbie to bitcoin threads newbies were writing at some point. Although I suspect those accounts are mostly alt accounts.

felt out of place in the first few months, the biggest challenge that I had was that there is too many terminologies in Bitcoin and the crypto space in general. If a newbie is focused on genuinely learning with the aim of gaining crypto knowledge in the forum, then it'll be easier to cope in the forum.
It’s normal to feel like an imposter when you are new to the forum. I remember when you were a newbie, you chased knowledge and was easily one of the best newbies in our local board. And today, the results can be seen in  your merits/activity ratio. For beginners, I think it is important to stick to your goals and not let the ranks and merit status of others make you feel inferior.

No dream is too big and no dreamer is too small
We have experienced that. Not everyone but most beginners who are real beginners to Bitcoin. I remembered too many conversations going o in the different boards that I didn't know how to keep up. What kept me going was the community of friends who i know outside of the forum. We discussed about the forum, we talked about Bitcoin, we talked about the different boards and as time when on I started to get the hang of it. At the beginning I did a lot of asking questions especially from people in my circle who had been here long time. And simply seeing that they grew up the ranks was both an internal and external motivation for me.
You know what, having community of friends who share common interests and goals is really an advantage that will help you to become more motivated to stay longer in the forum, despite of how complex and broad the discussions inside the forum. Surely your stay in the forum will be more productive and worth all the reading and sleepless nights.

However, for me, I would not lie but aside from the consistent learning I get to acquire every now and then, I'm also more eager to be active in the forum because of the decent profits I earned from the signature campaign. Although it's not that huge but to be honest, it's really helping a lot to sustain my family's needs. Indeed, big thanks to bitcointalk forum.

There is no need to force yourself to be present on the forum if something seems boring to you. It’s good to be obligated, but ask yourself: are you so important to the forum, or, on the contrary, do you need the forum? You need the forum as a storehouse of knowledge, first, and those who understand this and come to read regularly will receive only advantages. Therefore, those people who sincerely understand that the forum is already becoming a part of their lives, with all the interesting events, stay for quite a long time and do not experience the pain of reading.

Although this should be not the aim of newbies since there's more bigger picture on this since if they got a lot of knowledge for sure those signature earnings is just small compare to what they can possibly earn on multiple gigs they can participate on crypto space.
If a certain newbies is a developer type of person then signature privilege isnt comparable to what they can earn on their profession. But Ive seen some newbie devs which have account here and got some exceptional performance. Newbies think its only signature or campaign that can benefited herr in forum but for some they are valued the influence and reputation they can acquire here.

BTT is the largest bitcoin and altcoin forum in the world, there are millions of active users who continue to interact here, even world-famous things have happened here several times such as bitcoin pizza day, things like this keep me motivated to stay active on this forum, regarding income from bounty programs, that is secondary, however, first pursue in-depth knowledge about bitcoin and altcoins then income will follow, I'm happy to be with the best people in the crypto world, this is a great forum.

You are ability to learn and understand will it give you the motivation to continue learning. When you are trying to learn but actually not understanding anything it will surely demotivate you and the hunger to further learning will quench. This is why it is so advisable for newcomers to focus only on learning and then fall in love with learning. When they are addicted to learning it will keep them going in the cryptocurrency industry because there are a lot of new things to learn everyday. But when there is no passion for learning, they will easily quit and abandon the forum. Another motivation is knowing that you can just put only one year of effort and start earning small bucks from the forum. Unlike universities that you will put 5 to 6 years efforts and will earn nothing. This is why I am not so much happy with newbies that come and quit with the reason that the forum is difficult to understand.

2. Looking at the bigger picture:  if you are interested in growing on this space then that should be an extra motivation to you to keep putting in the hardwork and looking at the future.
What actually is the bigger picture?
Maybe seeing bitcoin value $100k or $200k and you remember you own some fractions.

It is not easy to do something new in your life, it requires patience, perseverance and belief that you can get through everything with the enthusiasm you have to learn something you have never mastered before. Hungry for Crypto knowledge will make you stay here longer, every month or year there are always new innovations developed to expand the adoption of crypto in everyday life.
Once you find the motivation that keeps you going, you also need to find a way to rank up so you can last longer on the forum. Now make learning and reading your motivation to make it easier to develop your account.

For me this are the two stand out motivations that keeps me going.
Please our experienced and members you can add what motivated you to keep pushing, so we the newbies can be motivated too.
Why you forgot the privilege and incentivized part? For sure anyone or majority also aim for this. Honestly many are seeking the number 1 you mentioned but the privileged we can achieved too like joining campaign or signature also at play. We cant deny that fact that majority of newbies aims for that. I was too, when I am on that level but its just a bonus I think.

This is the common reason why a lot of people stay in this forum since a lot of people think about its really nice to stay here since there's a lot of potential they can earn especially that there are signature campaigns that can able to pay them just to post some quality information in this forum. For sure they find it amazing since I think we can only see few platform have this opportunity that's why a lot of people try to do some good efforts just to get a higher chance to get a slot on campaigns. Although this should be not the aim of newbies since there's more bigger picture on this since if they got a lot of knowledge for sure those signature earnings is just small compare to what they can possibly earn on multiple gigs they can participate on crypto space.

If a newbie is focused on genuinely learning with the aim of gaining crypto knowledge in the forum, then it'll be easier to cope in the forum.

One of the reasons why newbies gets frustrated in the forum is because most of them heard that members earn in the forum, and it's getting merit that'll rank them up to be eligible to be in signature campaigns to also earn. They join and despite their posts that they think is quality, merits don't start to pump as expected, they'll want to give up, my advice to them is to focus on learning in the forum to increase their knowledge for free, merit will come eventually.

Please our experienced members you can add what motivated you to keep pushing, so we the newbies can be motivated too.
There is little financial stimulation as to why we can survive for a long time on the forum and if we are not hypocritical it will be difficult to consistently be on the forum without making money. As long as we don't blame the applicable regulations then I don't think this is a big problem because everyone needs money. This applies to almost all forum users and there are many other benefits that we can achieve by being on the forum with consistency. The point is to do something we like and enjoy every process so that we will get the benefits.

If you want to progress while on the forum, the concrete step you need to take is reading because by reading we will become more knowledgeable and gain a lot of knowledge. So it will be easier to interact with each other, because there is a lot of discussion material where we can exchange opinions, especially since the forum is a discussion, so insight into the material we will discuss is really needed.

The beginning is always difficult but sometimes we don't have to look back when the road is difficult but we have to try to conquer that difficult road. We should always have a positive mindset as I joined this forum as a newbie and I don't know the forum rules or other things well thinking that if I get lost from the forum then I lose one of the challenges.  Never be defeated by a challenge and have to plan at the time. If others can, why can't I be there? Imagine your place where there are older members of the forum who once had your opinion and they hold on and patiently stay in the forum but they have reached such a stage in the forum. You also have to keep in mind that one day you too will reach that position in the forum like that person. If you can think like this then something good can be achieved from this forum.

Yes I agree, I also used to have the principle that knowledge is lightly carried anywhere in the head of each person, Grin bitcointalk forum in my opinion is a forum that is an easy place to understand, if described, you can choose according to your wishes, abilities and levels of each person are different in understanding. I was interested in the forum because I wanted to have insights that were then taboo and raw in my ears, it was my guess that crypto would become a necessity of life because of the age of digitalisation for me investing in any project could be an added value even if it was free. I am grateful to at least understand the basics, how it works and know between chains which makes it very easy Wink . And the rest I am interested in what is happening in social, environmental both fud, fomo and ongoing events. Forum for me is the best tool. Because most of the contributors here are very insightful and know the source of the truth that each person is talking about (rank up). many goals and motivations of each person and even so bitcointalk is my favourite forum.

To be frank I gained insight into crypto by reading threads, topics and other important post that members pasted here. Tips on how to go about your activities here, Crypto projects and other engagements as it concerns blockchain technology.
The major thing I love most here is the fact that members are always open to sharing ideas and opinions with one another which is very much educative and entertaining to all who cares to read it.

Soon it will be 9 years since I joined Bitcointalk, so, it's good question what keeps me here. First I think that now spend here much less time than in early years. It's not that I check most boards here daily like I used to do. Simply don't have that much time because of real life stuff, but also probably got a bit bored with crypto.
What keeps me is probably that habbit that I made in all these years to check forum at least few times a day. Now it would be difficult to get rid of such habbit, something similar like quit smoking Cheesy.
Also, what a l like here is community and projects, initiatives made by them. This is one of things that I like about Bitcointalk most. And another thing which is also factor - money, it would be stupid to lie.

What keeps me going in this forum is that I am playing my role to make bitcoin achieve its going. I am like a tiny piece of the whole. The first time I heard about the HODL, it was from a news source and they said it originated from this forum.

There are countless times that this topics, comments or discussions from this forum has been featured in major online websites like Forbes, bitcoin.com, and others and even on TV. This is what keeps me going knowing that I am a piece of the whole that is contributing positive to the growth and adoption of bitcoin worldwide regardless of how small it is. Therefore, I'll keep going.

Two instances -

  • 1. HODL
Quote
As with many other popular memes, the origin of HODL can reportedly be traced back to a typo. It all started when a user named GameKyuubi made a post on the crypto forum Bitcointalk in December 2013 with the title “I AM HODLING.” GameKyuubi explained in the post that he planned to “hold” his Bitcoin (BTC) investments because he knew he was a bad trader. In no time, the term HODL spread like wildfire throughout the crypto world. Today, it refers to investors who refuse to sell their crypto regardless of how high or low prices trade.

  • 2. Pizza for bitcoins?
Quote
On May 22, 2010, now known as “Bitcoin Pizza Day,” Laszlo Hanyecz, the Florida man, agreed to pay 10,000 bitcoins for the delivery of two Papa John’s pizzas. On the Bitcoin Talk forum, Hanyecz reached out for help. “I’ll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas … like maybe 2 large ones so I have some left over for the next day,” Hanyecz wrote.

after learning about this forum from my friend, i started to find out various things about this forum and then started registering and starting to read the various rules in it. at first it was quite difficult for me to understand how this forum works and what the rules are in it, but after asking my friend and he told me as much as he could, i started to understand what i needed to do in this forum and started to be interested in being able to discuss it in it.

to be honest, after being more involved in this forum and coupled with my luck in finding a signature campaign, i started to become more interested in discussing on this forum and that made me even more enthusiastic. this forum is not only a place for me to discuss and find various topics to increase my knowledge, but it can also provide me with additional income which is very useful for me, and i am grateful for that.

The ability to work and earn few satoshis if I rank up was the number one thing that keep me motivated, and secondly I was able to learn along the way because I was privelage to have some spear cash then to buy few bitcoin and as that becomes my reality I became interested in discussions as related and regards to bitcoin since I already have some good amount of my savings in bitcoin and at risk of losing if I lack knowledge.

So that becomes very important point for me because I always running after the knowledge and experience of others who I engage in discussions with here in the forum.

The first 3 months are always the most difficult as you are not accustomed to the forum and do not know much about it. I remember that it took me about 5 months to learn the rules of the forum and that there are signature campaigns, what Bitcoin is, how you can create a wallet and all the basics. This period is not enough for many to advance, but from He wants to learn and will be able to do so. After the first 3 months, you will find a lot of motivation and the forum will become part of your daily activity, such as visiting X and news sites.
Wow, your experience is motivating seen the level you have gotten to now, and knowing fully well you struggled at first, this will give me an extra motivation that will keep me going and hoping someday I will have the knowledge you have now about crypto, and maybe the level you are too, thanks sir.

Why do you or a beginner join a forum will decide what you or that beginner do next.

If joining to learn knowledge about Bitcoin, this forum will be very insightful and you will addict it because it's helpful for your learning.

If participating in this forum to earn money, it can cause disappointment if you feel no chance to earn money here by reasons like forum rank stucks, can not get merit to rank up and other reasons.

Merits shouldn't be a booster to you as a newbie, and don't prioritize your aim of being in the bitcointalk forum just on chasing merits.
If I may ask, why do you need the merit? Because if I can remember, the platform is prioritized on discussing bitcoin matters. So I hope you don't stay tuned here on competitive matters of how you would rank above other forum users?
Since the forum has been an open and transparent platform by which we can at some points have access to look at other users profiles,  I guess you must have come across beginners offering prospective contributions that even higher rank users never thought about which is highily rated useful to the users in need of the informations that covers the newbie or beginners posts.

That's basically what keep beginners going and as the case may be generalized, that's what keep forum users going while in the forum.
Contributing meaningful in the forum is a credit and a pride for the entire forum. You can attest to scale how useful you're to the forum by either compliments and contents of replies by other users in the same passage of threads with you.
Literally your constructive meaningful posts as that would could as well attract you merits and that usually comes at your unaware.

Message to the beginners: Dear newbies and beginners find tangible reasons to stay positive and reliable while in the forum hence this platform is prioritized on bitcoin discussions while others attached are just exemptional.
Think about if you can gather the whole merits in the forum while you're not doing well with your bitcoin investment which is primarily why we're all here.

As a beginner or first timer on a forum like this it's not Always easy to keep up actively with the activities of the forum, we all can attest to that

I never found any difficulties with that because my aim was clear, I needed to learn as much as I could about this industry which kept me interested and intrigued at all times as a newbie.

we can also attest to the fact that at a point we felt like giving up, most times the activities of the day gets you exhausted that you won't even have time to handle your phone to either read, do research or make post especially at the beginning stage when the merits is not coming,

Why would one feel like giving up? Are you on a mission here? You shouldn't be chasing merits or ranks if your aim behind joining the forum isn't earning money, and if that is your aim, you don't need to twist the words and say it clearly, and that should be enough motivation for you.

1. Hunger for crypto knowledge:   it takes only determination and the Hunger to be knowledgeable to get a user so active on this crypto space, because every minute you don't come online to see what's happening on the forum it will look like you are missing something, and u will be restless untill you come online.

See? You are contradicting yourself. First, you said sometimes you feel like giving up because your posts aren't getting merits, and then you are saying hunger for knowledge keeps you going. Why would getting no merits make you feel like giving up when you are here to feed your hunger for knowledge?

2. Looking at the bigger picture:  if you are interested in growing on this space then that should be an extra motivation to you to keep putting in the hardwork and looking at the future.

Let me tell you, if you are interested in growing in this space/forum, don't worry too much about merits because that will cloud your thoughts. Focus on learning, the more you learn, the better your posts will be, and the better your posts will be, the more merits you will get.

A newbie who is interested in crypto knowledge will not be discouraged if after a while they are not able to get merit because their focus is mainly on the knowledge they can get on crypto if they consistently keep coming to the forum. If you are a beginner who was introduced to the forum as a way to make money, you will easily be discouraged from continuing if you are unable to get merits to grow your account. If it is also a newbie who is interested in learning about crypto but the drive to learn about crypto is not sustainable, the newbie can lose interest in learning. As a newbie who plans to keep going in this forum, you need to develop a sustainable interest in crypto knowledge.

you won't even have time to handle your phone to either read, do research or make post especially at the beginning stage when the merits is not coming,
Newbies get frustrated when their posts are not getting merits. I think this frustration stems from a place of ignorance because for some reason newbies believe that every post they make should have merits which is totally wrong btw. Even older members do not get merits for every single one of the their posts.

This causes them to create topics about technical discussion or guides in order to seem knowledgeable when in fact they are still struggling with the basics of cryptocurrency. So 6 out of 10 newbies plagiarize or use AI just to make “good” posts.

Everyone wants something in this forum. Let’s be honest, the bigger picture for most newbies is to rank up and join signature campaigns, many of them were introduced to the forum as a means to earn money so their perception of Bitcointalk is misguided and they end up making mistakes that may cost them their account.

Everyone that is new to the crypto space have experienced something like this, as a beginner you don't have to get tired of what you want to learn because it will help you in future. The crypto space is so large to the extent that it can contain the whole 8.1 billion people in the the world. Planning to achieve the bigger pictures from the crypto space is good but you need a solid knowledge of Bitcoin (crypto) before you can achieve that. That's the reason why you don't have to be tired of learning, even though you are getting it difficult to understand, there are other crypto beginners that have been scammed before now (more than 1 time) but they are still inspired to learn more about Bitcoin (crypto currency) because they believed that if they understand they can be able to recover all their losses.

It's through that the forum or the crypto space in general some times seems boring but when you have a lay down goal there is absolutely nothing that you will keep you off track and that's just how most of us have survived here in the forum. We all have some that brought us here which is understandable because almost all seeks the same thing but it's left for you individually to find what you want and set a target for it.

Personally what has kept me going is when I make a post and I see people with a title Legendary, that's a motivation for me in this forum because I don't like settling for less, perhaps I always want to reach for the highest and I'm on my way to that and the only way to achieve that is keeping up with the forum every day as knowledge that will keep in such position are shared every time and if I'm not here I will miss them so I keep learning from this wise members if the forum.

What I'm saying in essence is you have your own you goal of being here all you gat to do is set a target to get them in any way you can. It's a personal race, motivation will only get you going but hard work will get you growing.

I can't also deny the fact that I always wanted to join the signature campaigns but not in this level tho but we gat to start somewhere and it's now a helping hand to me as a student I can no do somethings without parents. Infact the signature campaigns is one thing I truly enjoy here but the fact that most people deny it is ridiculous because it's obvious.

@OP if you are also look forward to that you can too but don't get yourself worked up for signature campaigns as you might not enjoy them when the time comes.
