If you want a distro for your parents, pick Ubuntu.  If you don't understand the humor at funroll-loops.info pick Gentoo.  If you want to learn to manage servers, pick CentOS.  If you want to be godlike, pick Slackware.

"purists" usually picks Slackware [&derrivatives], Free/Open-BSD or even go TinyCore  or other LFS-alike distros Wink

Gentoo
hm, Gentoo is too GPL/GNU/Linux-ish way and thus still have  enough bloatware in it.
but talking about customization ability/capability and/or tools/ideology its even better, in theory/future use. probably.

Couldn't agree more!

Slackware was the first distro I ever installed, back around 1996. 40-some-odd 3.5" floppies, if I remember correctly. My how far we've come! Wink

Awesome sub-forums Smiley

May be good to include uninstallers.

I recommend CCleaner on Windows.

I don't know how to do uninstallation on Linux. Someone may wanna shed light on that one Smiley

sudo apt-get remove [package name]

Also, if you want useless dependencies removed, install deborphan or debfoster.

...provided the distribution of Linux you're using uses apt for package management!  RedHat, for example, uses rpm's.

If you're a purist like me who downloads the source and compiles it yourself, "make uninstall" typically works from the source's directory.

Hey all, love the new sub-forum

Let me be the first to post here:

Ok, if anyone is getting a cannot find open cl device using guiminer I've got a fix.

1. Uninstall your video drivers completely
2. Reinstall your video drivers (must include SDK component)
3. Mine!
