A Whalers Tale.

I signed aboard this whaling ship
I made my mark it's true
And I'll serve out the span of time
I swore that I would do
But I'll not man your boats again
Though you cast me in the sea
For I tell you sir, them fish can think
As well as you or me

Just yesterday the lookout's call
Had bent us to our work
I took me place like all the rest
I'd not be one to shirk
Now thirteen men's been drownded
And no more of them we'll see
I'd take an oath, them fish can think
As well as you or me

We'd pulled our boats abreast the pod
  The steersman took his stand
He'd had no time to make his throw
When the oar flew from my hand
Just then a great fluke smashed our boat
  The whale I didn't see
Now I believe them fish can think
As well as you or me

For then them whales destroyed our boats
They rammed them one by one
They stove them all with head and fluke
  And after they was done
We few poor souls left half-alive
  Was clinging to debris
I'd stake me life them fish can think
As good as you and me

The way them whale fish went for us
It seemed as though t'was planned
For each one had his target boat
They played us man for man
Just knowin' now they think so clear
My heart says let them be
I swear to God them fish can think
As good as you or me

Now John is blind, Jim's lost an arm
  And Caleb's lost below
My leg will heal but other men
  No more aloft can go
So I'll not man your boats again
Though you drown me in the sea
For I tell you sir, them fish can think
As good as you or me

Scupper that!

Tis a mad scurvy dog he who dares hodl! Lower yer masts and sodl yer coins, I spy rough seas ahead cap'n!

Did ye hear the canon shots last night? A final warning ya reckon?

Yar need to lay off the rum lad!

Ol' Cap'n loves to visit Casablanca. Those cannon shots were Ol' Cap'n mixing up his Moroccan with his gun powder, easy to do with a hookah by candlelight. I dare say I nearly lost me beard!

Maybe Ol' Cap'n should lay off the rum too!

Any skipper worth his weight can handle rough seas, especially if they want to reach the fabled City of Digital Gold. I'd rather end up in Davey Jones's locker than spend the rest of me days on dry land.

Ol' Cap'n has come back to his senses.

While haughtily singing bitmate frienemy's song and gulping ale rum Cap'n nearly fell off his wooden leg at the sight of the frigate RBS on the horizon.

That is one ship of many kept afloat by Act of Grace.

This thread need RUM! Barrels of that fiery liquor!

Today's choice is Ron Zacapa Sistema Solera 15. Captain, shall I serve? Those hodlers need a spirit to keep their spirit up!

Splice the mainbrace!

A fine choice bitmate!

I remember the days when grog was used as currency. They were no fancy names for denominations, millibits, sissybits, microbits.

Sippers or gulpers, that was it.

Fill to the brim bitmate! I was always a gulper!

Cap'n, looking at the charts it appears the Land of $10000 can be reached by September the Nineteenth.

Why so long Beastie?

Are our sails footloose like the old goxsails? We don't need to lay ahull. Let go and haul, trim the jib and we'll be there by the thirteenth. A most fortuitous number for old sea dogs!

Aye!

(I be shackled by the sands of time)
Aye aye skipper! There be too many pirates on Septeenth anyway.

Aye... Pirates...

Kissing the gunners daughter is too good for them. Keel hauling is too good for them. Admiralty Law will weed them out in the end.

Ahoy there bitmates!

I've been at sea through two of the roughest storms a Captain has ever seen, storms that strike fear into the hearts of land lubbers and bilge rats aplenty.

I tell no lies. When the seas were awash with bounty and the wind filled my sails I traded. Tis the height of prosperity I said to myself and 'ol Cap'n Doubloon needs a new sextant. Better weather came and I stamp my wooden leg when I think about the sextant I could've had, but when yar needs a sextant yar needs a sextant!

The cats out of the bag many say and she still be hard sailing but listen to an old sea dog when I tells ya,

HOLD FAST!

So many doubloons being invested in ports, sails, lockers, man o wars, liners, anchors and ladders. The sailing of this year will not be the sailing of next year.

Hold fast through the swells and keep your mind ship shape and Bristol fashion.

When the new age of sail comes bringing safety to these seas watch the lubbers and bilge rats lining up at the dock to climb aboard  Smiley

Old Captain Doubloon will be behind the helm of a clipper or will go down in this dinghy.

Aye

Great. Now I have the SpongeBob song stuck in my head....

When ol' Cap'n had two legs diving for sponges was a great pastime. I only heard them sing when I was on the grog and never met a sponge called Bob. I'm sure he is a fine singer and great sponge!  Smiley
