If they will really implement crypto payments, it will be big thing. But as said above, it's not first time when they talked about it, it was quite long time ago and they still don't have it. Let's hope finally it will turn into reality.
But imagine, what if they will start accepting crypto... through BitPay. I think it's possible scenario. I hope they're not planning it, otherwise I'll keep using fiat.

I've been using their service ever since it became available here in the country, and it's been a good few years since that started. Back before the pandemic happened, every weekend I see to it that I go out and spend some quiet time away from the metros, and Airbnb is my go to when it comes to lodging and short stays. It will definitely be an awesome experience to pay with crypto on my next visit on the countryside should it ever get implemented. But of course it will be subject to reviews and whatnot, though seeing how open their whole team is on crypto usage for payments, it may not be long before we see a crypto tab on the Airbnb tab.

Bitcoin is known to be slow and expensive, so the CEO is probably trying to show himself as someone who has a solution for that accepting faster cryptocurrencies. I don't agree with that and I think bitcoin is fast and cheap enough for air bnb payments.

Anyone can wait 10mintes or even a few hour for a Airbnb payment without any problem in nearly all of the situations. After all, people usually rent a room for a few days/weeks later.

Another possibility is that they could also probably add a wallet feature so people could pre-fund their wallets. But likeliness wise, I'm guessing they're going to the Coinbase Commerce/BitPay route.

Overall this is actually a significant integration. People who travel countries use Airbnb to rent places to stay on as far as I know, and having crypto payments potentially means that people would need to convert less of their local currency to the country's currency.
A big convenience in short specially on having this option and when travelling on other places which conversion would be needed and with this then you wouldnt really stress out yourself in doing so.

Somehow in a situation then most of the time i dont think that people would really be actively spending up their crypto for this purpose since they could simply done it with money
but having this integration is better rather than having nothing at all which on at least we do really have other options to choose from if we are out of cash.

Back on Monday, Chesky (Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky) asked its users what Airbnb should launch for 2022. He received 4000 submissions from users.
He received 4000 submissions from users.
This tweet smells like some testing ground to announce their own airbnb token, but I thought that airbnb was accepting Bitcoin and other cryptos for year, but this was their rival called Travala.
It's possible to pay to airbnb with crypto even now, but you need to use alternative options like Bitrefill, Fold App and gift cards, but there are some limitations.
Maybe airbnb wants to take over Travala crypto market share, and make some profit from their new token in future, but overall this is a good news for Bitcoin adoption.

I don't agree with that and I think bitcoin is fast and cheap enough for air bnb payments.
One thing is sure, Bitcoin transaction fees are much cheaper than for unsustainable ethereum, and most of the time you can send any amount and pay $0.06 or 1 sat/vB just like now.
With high priority that would be 5 sat/vB or $0.30, and you can't even compare that with eth and all other shittokens.

It was a long time ago they planned to implement Bitcoin as another payment method but still, they didn't add it to their platform.

Check this thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/airbnb-european-competitor-now-accepting-bitcoin-169711 posted 2013

So I think it is another bluff or maybe they are going to make their own token based on what Chesky tweet above.

They also have AirBNB community and talk about accepting Bitcoin last 2016 but still, they didn't accept Bitcoin.
Look at the thread here https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Help/Bitcoin-payment-option/m-p/141893

Let's hope they are going to accept BTC this year if not, this is another bluff.

Unlike 9flats which is their competitor before they are accepting Bitcoin as another payment option since 2013.

Your comments are a great example of how you shouldn't take any news with delight.  Not a single CEO's words are worth anything until they are brought to life. When Chesky will keep his word and accept BTC or other crypto as payment, then we'll talk. In the meantime, it would not hurt to have a grain of skepticism and not rejoice at empty words.

Since this has been a suggestion over the years, they might finally consider implementing it now that it has topped all other suggestions.

I hope this does not include creating their own token, though, which is both toxic and unnecessary. Travala did that.

It is acceptable if they use a Bitcoin payment service provider if they wouldn't opt for self hosting.

I wonder if Airbnb will allow individual hosts to be paid in bitcoin as well?

If they do, that would be sweeter. That might result to more hodlers. I know there are people who are interested to own some Bitcoin but either don't know where to start or don't give much effort to it.

Bitcoin is known to be slow and expensive
Better that we try to challenge that misconception rather than shrug our shoulders at it, though.

Exactly. Nobody is walking in to an apartment, speaking to the owner, and then trying to book via Airbnb on the spot. Every online payment can wait 10-60 minutes to be confirmed. And even if you are booking an apartment to stay in in the next 10 minutes, you still have to, well, stay in it, giving plenty of time to have your transaction confirmed before you leave.

Nice to see lots of enthusiasm for crypto payments, particularly bitcoin and Lightning, in the Twitter thread, which is the complete opposite of what we were seeing in the Mozilla Twitter thread about the same thing. I wonder if Airbnb will allow individual hosts to be paid in bitcoin as well?

Although his statement regarding "a variety of crypto tokens" means he is almost certainly going to use a payment processor rather than a self hosted solution. Let's hope they pick a decent one.

Worth mentioning it has been possible to buy vouchers for Airbnb at the usual crypto voucher sites for some time, at least in a number of countries, including the US and Canada. But any increase in direct acceptance of bitcoin and cutting out the middlemen will only ever be a good thing.

It could be quite a big deal if it'll be indeed implemented, also depending on how it's implemented (you know the disappointment on bitcointalk because Mozilla is using a certain payment processor for crypto donations).
The good thing is that at least people discuss about that.
Then... we'll see... it will be nice to see it implemented. Will 2022 be the year of heavy worldwide acceptance of Bitcoin as means of payment? I would not mind.

All in all it's a good news. Time will tell in how good it actually was.

Got 4,000 suggestions. Here are the top 6:

1 – Crypto payments (top suggestion)
2 – Clear pricing displays
3 – Guest loyalty program
4 – Updated cleaning fees
5 – More long-term stays & discounts
6 – Better customer service

Chesky says[1] he is open to a variety of crypto token ideas. This means Airbnb will not be limiting payments to just Bitcoin.

Airbnb had a payment volume of $336 billion since 2013. Currently, the serice accepts Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

It's not the first time Airbnb has talked about cryptocurrency, but I'm starting to see that most companies looking to build and upgrade their systems have some kind of attitude toward accepting cryptocurrency payments.
