I doubt that this feature would be implemented because it would eat so many server resources.
A script you use yourself can be made - to search every... 30 minutes or so. It doesn't have to be a direct feature on the forum. Even a bookmark button to just do the search function with your name and recent mentions would be fine - it doesn't have to be anything that's implemented.

Why do you need to know when you're mentioned? Save that vanity crap for Twitter..

I have already stated in my first post as to why I wanted this:

I'm one that enjoys being active in a discussion, and though adding a thread to my watchlist is great, I personally don't want more than 10 or 20 threads on there at once - it floods it way too much... and since I post in different threads often, I want to avoid adding too many to see if there are replies or not.

Don't hand me vague replies. Reply with information if possible.

Nothing to do with vanity. Don't make assumptions.

I doubt that this feature would be implemented because it would eat so many server resources. It's one thing to do a single search, but what you're effectively saying is to have a script that will be automated to find a mention every 1min, 5 min, 15min, etc. I bet Theymos is always looking to minimize the amount of database queries, not increase them substantially. Why do you need to know when you're mentioned? Save that vanity crap for Twitter..

there is a mod about it http://www.smfpacks.com/alertmod
That is different to what actmyname is saying (I assume). That add on just tells you when you get PMs, get replied to (quoted), and doesn't tell you if you get mentioned. I think actmyname is talking about something more like what things are on Reddit - if you make a post that has /u/username, the person with the username you put gets a notification. Would be a nice feature to have on this forum.

notification for being mentioned in a post, like if someone had quoted you, or posted your name apart from searching your name

I think that would be a really cool feature.
I have seen this on one of the forums somewhere and it used to show a notification when someone mentions your id in their post or thread.

It would be very less hassle and better user friendly.

I'm not sure whether this should be in Meta or Project Development. If it's requested to move, then I'll do so as soon as I can. Anyway!
This should be in meta.

Is there some sort of notification for being mentioned in a post, like if someone had quoted you, or posted your name apart from searching your name?
Nope.

If not, then has anybody made anything [script] to automate the search process and fetch mentions?
AFAIK no such script exists. However one could certainly be made to do so. I think it would not be that hard to do.
