The $300 credit is a farce. You only get $50 for virtual machine for up to 60 days. The other $250 are for other services not virtual machine related. You can get a free trial yourself, although I don't recommend it. Their customer service is horrible. If you're going to sign up for a "free trial", you must use a bonafide credit card to settle a small transaction. Debit cards and PayPal can be used for purchasing VMs outright, but you can't use debit cards nor paypal if you want a coupon code for the $50 credit. They also hassled me by asking scans of my driver's license (front & back), credit card used to verify (front back). Here's the kicker... they wanted to see my credit card statement details last printed statement. WTF?
