It's good to see that Satosh- Sorry, Hal's wife continue to honor her husband's legacy. Hal Finney would have been the light-bringer to lead the developers and community to the best path for Bitcoin.

Plus I saw something very funny, upon reading the other posts/replies of the tweet. I saw a flat-Earther of Bitcoin. I know we preach censorship-resistance, but everyone should block this stupid and annoying person. He's the only one in the thread who believes in what he tweeted.

I absolutely love going through the bitcoin "masters" (if you will) tweets, posts, forum writings etc and Hal Finney is of course no exception to this.  Personally I believe that Hal Finney and Nick Szabo combined to create bitcoin.  It just makes too much sense to me when your really dig in to it. Regardless you can learn so much about each of these great cryptographers /cypherpunks by going through their old text and I encourage everyone to do so!

We should not be relating any of this to the Twitter. I know there is importance of social platforms and they could move the market in any direction if the influencer is correct and his statements are right. However we are seeing shift from those trends as well after seeing how Elon moved the market and also dishonoured the investments of investors and his fans! I think lees got their lessons learnt and no one is going to believe this kind of shit again ever. I think we should not be much cared about this news. If Elons deleting it then let him.

<…> Shall we be confident now that Hal's account won't be included to the mass deletion?
With Musk you never know, but from a logical point of view, Hal’s Twitter account does now have recent activity and, therefore, should not be purged in any way. One additional drag to add is that someone with access to the account may have to periodically perform the same action in order to preserve it from future purges.
Yeah, in theory, there's now the activity and Hal's wife is now aware of this rule so I think that she may just have some tweet and had to access the account from time to time.

Just as a reminder, back in November 2019, Twitter (under Dorsey’s command) had a similar idea, and wanted to purge accounts with more than 6 months of inactivity, though it shortly freezed the plans due to all the stir it caused back then.

Side note: Bitcointalk should probably make a pre-emptive Tweet just in case (last Tweet was in 2018). We wouldn't want the channel made available for anyone to take control of in the event ...
I didn't know that Jack did that before but it's now come into fruition that this law from Twitter has to be enforced. And whoever has the control for the bitcointalk twitter account should also take some action of doing an activity which is mostly theymos.

Obviously, there are making some good progress here this will be their way to improve Twitter before they make some huge updates next year. looks like there are more updates coming after this one. Before they gonna put some use of their Doge coins on Twitter, I may say these updates are not really the one we from the crypto community looking for because the moment he gonna put Doge coins on Twitter, that's when the investors will gonna celebrate and I think they will also consider giving bitcoins to attract more users to use their social media platform. They will gonna also remove those accounts or suspend them when the owners are in jail because obviously they are not the one who is currently using them and until they get out they will be freed again.

Elon's tweet says that only accounts with no tweets or activity for years will be deleted. Hal's account has tweets, so it should not be deleted. I doubt that Elon will delete any accounts that have data on them. Unless he means that he will be deleting accounts that have not tweeted or logged in for years and not how I understand it, which is accounts that have never tweeted and have not logged in for years

we don't have to worry now that EM will delete Hal Finney's twitter account...
tonight his widowed wife Fran Finney tweeted from his personal account Smiley
That's so nice of her.

She listened to the community and I'm sure she's flattered the way the concerned people have approached her. I guess we don't have to worry anymore with those factors Elon Musk's considers for the massive deletion of those inactive accounts.

Shall we be confident now that Hal's account won't be included to the mass deletion?

So far, it seems some people are doubting that it was indeed Finney's widow, but the matter of whether the account was compromised or not is probably irrelevant when it comes to deletions of accounts where nobody logged in for years and didn't tweet anything. Hopefully, this simple act will save Finney's account. I also hope that Musk will take into account the sensitive issue of memory about dead people and of preserving history on online platforms for future generations. Deleting it just doesn't seem right to me, but a lot of what Musk does doesn't seem right to me.

Did he play any vital role in bitcoin adoption and promotion his time? I was able to go through his tweet but could not find any much tweet from him relating to bitcoin adoption in anyway but rather retweet. Seems like he was not much vocal in the bitcoin movement as i can see less than 50 tweets and retweets all through his time on tweeter with a large number of follower-ship of over sixtynine thousand people very active on tweeter space.
In respect to account preservation, I think there should some considerations to blue ticked accounts which owners are no more but their impart is  still felt in the world or rather, as earlier said by one,
Platforms always have archival data so they can revert their decision on account ban or deletion easily.

Blue ticked account should be archived for data and information preservation which will help in the future to restore if any information is needed about any account holder who is no more.   Nevertheless, if possible, Elon musk should mark a special day for blue ticked account that are no more i.e a kind of tweet remembrance day for such account holders that in one way or the other have created or inspired many into being who they are in their various walks of life. This I think can be done so as to remember their memory down lane. It will also boast tweeter reputation.

there will be a time when even Bitcoin Talk will become a thing of the past.  Some body (probably LoyceV) will however have a full backup version of it published somewhere.
I'm not making any promises for decades down the road, especially if the forum disappears. Without the forum, who's going to read through lists of millions of unsorted posts?

While I think it is important to preserve the history of Bitcoin, which ultimately includes Hal as well along Satoshi's posts and all, there will be a time when even Bitcoin Talk will become a thing of the past.  Some body (probably LoyceV) will however have a full backup version of it published somewhere.  All of this has historical value.  We may not value it much now, but decades down the road it will all be valued.

There's no huge amount of tweets that matter to the bitcoin community. Most of his tweets aren't related to bitcoin. I don't think Elon is going to remove all these accounts without having an uncensored backup. I'm pretty much sure he is going to have a backup before freeing a username.

An intelligent man who has scientific evidence about how harmless Bitcoin mining has an impact on the environment and who has a huge fortune cannot be intimidated by some media that write lies. If people who know the basics of mathematics and know how to read say that 0.14% of the world's total energy consumption falls on Bitcoin mining and that more than 50% comes from renewable sources, then Bitcoin is greener than a company that does not want it.

I will repeat once again that his actions have caused great damage to Bitcoin, and that it is not at all clear to me that so many people still support him as some kind of crypto messiah. Freedom of speech is one thing, but public support for racism, Nazism and any kind of violence cannot and must not be supported on public social platforms.

I have to correct you, Mr. Mars does not like Bitcoin, and as he has shown many times in his public statements, he even does not understand it. According to his criteria, Bitcoin is still "dangerous for the environment" because he still hasn't returned it as a payment option to his company - and that same company has sold most of the BTC it had in its possession.
Maybe the Bitcoin mining is conflicted with a vision for another company of Elon, Tesla. Media and communities put a lot of pressure on Elon about why he supported Bitcoin but his vision for Tesla is green production.

I know Bitcoin is not environmental damage as much as media accused it but maybe Elon chose an easier way to response to media attack on Tesla. It can be considered that his support for Bitcoin is not loyal but it does not mean he does not like Bitcoin.

With his love for Bitcoin, Elon Musk should know about Hal Finney. Even he did not know about Hal and delete Hal account, if community make their voices, Elon Musk will listen to them and recover the account for Hal after deleting it.

If Hal were still alive, maybe he would have deleted his Twitter account himself, as many famous and unknown people have been doing since the new owner appeared. So I don't see any loss in his account being deleted.

Unlike "Running Bitcoin", I do not think that his tweets were focused on Bitcoin, and the account will certainly not be archived because of that tweet.
It seems his tweets were short describing the things he was doing and it's good that he tried to add some privacy to bitcoin transactions.

Here's a link archive of Hal's profile: https://archive.vn/q8LPH

Unfortunately the individual Tweets can't seem to be archived unless you do it one by one, which requires a good amount of time — for those who want to see the responses to the tweets.

Not sure how to interpret what Elon wrote

LOL! This stands even in a lot of cases people would think that Elon was much clearer in his tweets Cheesy

The late Hal is a legend in these circles, but his Twitter activity doesn't really bear any significance for Bitcoin nor would the deletion of his account cause an important loss for the ecosystem. If that number on your picture is correct, he made only 41 tweets, and most of them don't even have anything to do with BTC. Some are also retweets of what other people said.

You are partly correct; but "never say never". We don't know when somebody decides he wants to check Hal's awake hours or writing style or whatever... let's not waste what we can easily keep.

Since I am not so big of a Twitter user, I had to check your image for Hal's Twitter handle (of the many accounts called Hal Finney, heh).
But imho a much better approach is to archive this as text so people can also search in it. And I think/hope that this will do the job: Archive of Hal Finney's tweets and replies

Not sure how to interpret what Elon wrote and what the requirements for an account to be deleted are.
He said accounts with no tweets will be deleted. Hal's account has tweets. The other requirement is no log ins for years. Unless someone from Hal's family logs into his Twitter account from time to time, that could be a reason for account deletion. We will have to see whether both conditions must be met for a Twitter account to be deleted or if one of them is enough.

According to Elon, Twitter will soon start freeing the name space of 1.5 billion accounts.
These are obvious account deletions with no tweets & no log in for years.

I am not sure if Hal Finney's account will be preserved or not, so to make sure we have the whole history preserved, I am making this post.
