Please correct me if I'm wrong, but by my calculations the 25 MH/s unit won't be profitable for two months even if there is NO DIFFICULTY INCREASE. Which is a completely unreasonable assumption to make. So, it seems to me that these ASICs have practically ZERO chance of ever being profitable.
correct, but people may start buying these if they believe that the price of scrypt shitcoins will go up.  by some of the irrational exuberance expressed in the dogecoin thread, there seems to be a 99% chance the ASICs will fund the next doge-based, global empire.
If they believe it will go up, it still makes sense to purchase current hardware. 2 months of mining on current hardware will earn you a second machine, equaling the power of the ASICs which will take 4-6 months to come out.

A meager 2x hash rate increase just isn't worth it for preorders unless it's gonna come out in <2 months. This isn't even factoring in difficulty increases and the potential profit loss from having to wait for your machines to arrive (which in the case for SHA-256 ASICs was A LOT since difficulty spiked as a result of other ASICs being released). Additionally there are risks of massive preorder delays (especially with new companies), scams (especially with new companies), and so on.

Also, if anyone really believes an scrypt coin will spike massively, the best bet is buying and holding. Mining will never be as profitable as buying in cases of huge value increases.

let's make a deal.
were these guys the ones selling '3 video cards in a milk crate' hashing rig earlier this year?

The reason why I won't be making an order is it's only about twice as cost effective as current miners (in terms of hardware cost) - that's just not good enough for a preorder. Additionally it would take roughly 4-6 months after preordering for it to arrive?

Yeah... even if difficulty was static, investing in current hardware just makes more sense.

Sorry guys, this appears to be a scam. Who knows when they will release the actual hardware, and they have a declining refund policy. Smells fishy.
same business model as butterfly labs.  scam?  no.  alpha is a scam?  maybe.  but just becuase they offer no release date or hardware, it could just mean they're following the BFL business model.

some people will buy anything.

Yeah and still no video.. Just a pointless slideshow.. Noone cares about the backstory... You want orders, we want video's.  Post the prototypes hashing away at 5Mh and 25Mh before we believe your smoke and mirrors.
