how do you go about selling alt coins at highs and buying back in on dips. Do you turn your alt into bitcoin, then into usd, then back to bitcoin, then back to the alt?

please and thank you

i am buying and selling with altcoin pair bitcoin. this is what i do every time i am doing trading. but in other time, sometimes i am buying and selling altcoin pair usdt too. if i have make big profit, then i turn to bitcoin pair usdt if the bitcoin price is increase like now. but if now, maybe i will only make a pair altcoin pair bitcoin again until i think i make more profit.

For me i just buy altcoins in exchange im using btc to buy in a low price and i will set it to the price that i want and wait until it sell it takes time to sell for it but im sure that there is a profit for it and my btc also goes up after that i will wait to the price that will dump again ang buy then sell again in a higher price just repeat this method all the time until you earn mo btc.

I also have a really stupid question. Do you need wallets for your every altcoin? I mean what if I were to use an altcoin faucet (waves, for example) does bittrex or poloniex provide you with a waves address so your payouts will be directed to your trading account? I'm sorry, I really am a newbie in trading but is really desperate to know about it. I've tried searching but all I get makes no sense for me because it is all too broad.

Good steps, but without going to fiat. Sell on high price and buy on deep price.

Trading 101.
You buy something you believe will increase in price and you sell when you believe something is about to fall in price.
On exchanges there will always be a trading pair with BTC and your altcoin of choice. There might also be other trading pairs not including BTC but those probably vary with different exchanges, Bittrex also has ETH as a base currency.
Whether or not you trade BTC for dollars is dependent on if you believe one will rise/fall in regard to the other. As long as you're on the right side of the trade, the currencies doesn't really matter. To you they are just numbers on a screen and you want your numbers to increase. Smiley
If you want to cash out, you cash out.

I'm not a serious trader myself, a n0ob if anything, but so far I've been doing ok. Just take it one step at a time.

I really wanted to know this either. It is so sad that I am here at this forum and I do not know how to trade bitcoins to altcoins or vice versa (altcoins to bitcoins). All I know about that is you need to have an account in exchangers such as bittrex and poloniex. And there, you can change your bitcoins to alts.

I never went into dollars, I usually buy altcoins i think can increase in price, then i set some price and just wait.
Sometimes even a year, but in the end if it was on good fundamentals it increases in the end.
Then i convert to bitcoin

If you want to trade you will have to use exchanges, that's what they are there for.
