I will rather hold them or would have bee trading them at every great spike and buy lower again just to increase my bag. You are not alone. I made some blunter in 2017 which daily consistency and handwork have since corrected. If you are scared of trading. Just buy more of these coins at their low rate and sell off at profit or keep accumulating for the long term.

Do not sell, hold on it have patience you will need lot of patience don't hurry. Coins you are holding is the best coins all you need is good time and patience. I know how difficult it is but there is no way.
hold it for too long I think it's not good even though it's the best coin, because I also held etherium at a high price for up to 2 years there hasn't been a change and finally I sold my etherium at a cheap price, because at that time the price went down, and even then I was forced to sell it because there was daily needs that I must meet

Hi all,

So I had bought a few alts two years ago when we thought that things will keep going up and up. Two years down the line in a pathetic look at my portfolio it hurts. I had gotten in ETH at around 500, ADA at 0.70 and NEO around 80 dollars. What is the best way forward? Sell them and get in lower? modify my portfolio to todays prices or forget them and hope that some day it will go back up?

first you need to do an analysis with you alts above,,
if you predictions the price from your alts above will down more, just sell it now and buying back in the lower price
second if you can't predict the price, just hold mate, because you hold a very promissing altcoins Wink
Yes. You have potential altcoins in your portfolio and i think it will give you huge profits once the market turns to bullish. Just learn to be more patient in holding those altcoins because if it will not make good increase this year, it will eventually happen in the months or years to come. Do not be panic once you see the altcoins rice dump more because it will never stay in that price forever knowing that this crypto market turns its price upside down.

Even now seems a bit late to me, you should have said this since and taken action all this while that the price of cryptocurrencies were down due to the Coronavirus. I don't see the need for selling those altcoins at this time, I will advise you to continue holding the coins and if you have money you can buy more coins and add to the ones you already have. And after that you can then wait for what's going to happen next.

From various research that I have made, the price of coins in the cryptocurrency market, especially Bitcoin will be going up. I can't tell when it's going to be, but it's going to happen. I have always believed that the bull run will be this 2020 or next year ending. It's still up to you on what you want to do.

If you holding on the hope that someday, it will bound back then I've bad news for you. You won't see ETH comeback to $500 or Ada unless you decide to hold it very long. By very long I mean that is lock up and throws away the key for years before deciding to check its price. Sound unrealistic, right? It's better for you to cut and goes lower and try to make it back with trading gains from time to time. Much more realistic than sitting around waiting for $500, $300 mark sound more sensible if you want to hodl.

Selling it now loses, but if it doesn't sell, our portfolio goes down. In my opinion if we hold coins like Ethereum, the rational choice is to hold for the long term. I think the decline in portfolio value is experienced by everyone and we don't need to panic to sell it

These are good coins I must say starting from Ethereum followed by ADA and NEO; all these coins have good platforms and good communities as well, also their team are active as can be seen in the case of Ethereum where an upgrade is coming soon, the same with ADA too. With these few points, I would suggest you hold them a bit more as they have a good future ahead of them. But however, if you are still sceptical, you can sell half of each of the coins and hold the rest.

You are in the situation like other investors who buy due to fomo. They thought the price will continue to rise and disregard the risk of buying at high price. Its hard to see our assets losing its value and cant climb up the way you wanted it to be but thats how crypto works, unpredicted and it takes long period before you can a possible alts bullrun again. I suggest to continue to hold if you dont need the money yet since you already wait longer so have more patience, as the saying good things will come to those who wait.

You have been in this ecosystem for a long time, you should also know that you really understand what you are supposed to do.
It all depends on your decision. If you already benefit at current prices, then sell a portion and enjoy your profits to invest in other investment products that are more stable, for example gold. But if you have not reached the price of the initial capital, then you should wait patiently. If you believe there will be a big pump as a result of halving, then just wait until the alt season comes. If you are not sure then sell it.

There's a general saying in cryptocurrency market that you only lose when you sell at a price lower than your entry point but to be honest, you've done quite a hodling there man.... It's 2 years already but the price seems never to get up higher than your entry points. My advise is for you to sell off whenever the market shows an upsurge and wait till you you see a down movement before getting in again

Back to the days when you bought these altcoins, why did you buy them? To sell them in a loss? No probably you saw a big potential there due to the tremendous technology behind them. So continue holding, all of them are working hard to satisfy the investors.  Smiley

I mean all cryptocurrencies back then were at boom each coins are going up and each day their value only gets higher, but same as gravity what goes up must come down and most holder lost their hope on their cryptocurrencies which only made things worse.
Did I missed something in here? all cryptocurrencies back then are going up? I bet you are only focused to those worthy to mention coins like bitcoin and etherem, coz honestly back then I was an investor on projects, it was good at the first year I had a good returns in good projects there are also regretful ones but then it started to turn tables when 2018 came in, the price of bitcoin is hitting low and so the whole market did. I just disagree partially on the thing you said that cryptocurrencies are all growing even back then.

Anyways I assume that waiting for it to go back is a optimistic choice but sometimes its better to cut loss than to give yourself false hope and lose it all.
There is nothing wrong with cutting your losses, in fact that might save you however also think that you are just losing the value in a specific time, you are just losing from that time it might bounce back, remember patience?

The better option is to give yourself a highest possible and lowest possible margin where if it reaches one withdraw.
But how do you look on the margins? based on your capital or in what you just want to lose or gain?

The coins you were investing are pretty decent, I have a bet that it will recover and surpassed their All-time high price. I will only mention NEO ATH is about $200, I guess it is 90% dump from its ATH and it is too late to sell it now because the price is only $12 you will suffer even more. Most altcoins are dependent on Bitcoin so if bitcoin will jump it will bring some altcoins. Your best option is to HODL but the final decision is yours.

There are many like you who bought at this price. And now they have lost a lot of funds. I don't think it would be right to sell now that you are in that position. Now be patient and hold your coins. If the market recovers, then there will be a chance to get the funds back. And now if you have some extra funds, you can buy some more coins at a lower price. As a result, if the market recovers, your losses will be recovered quickly. But the risk remains in the crypto market, so don't invest everything.

It very unfortunte you bought those three altcoins at those exubitant prices when compared to the current market situation however I would advice you don't sell them now because you would incure some loses. Please keep them and buy more so as to be active in the market, you might be lucky in the near future when prices will soar.

You could have jumped out before you lose so badly. And right now, you are at over 50% lose. You shouldn't sell because you have been holding all for years with hope, so why not continue holding.
That's why we have to make believe in our instincts and have to follow it when the situation won't get under control. I would do agree with you not to sell the coins at the moment because if you have held it for a very long time then why would you are selling it right now. Perhaps holding would be become a helpful move.

You will not lose it if you do not sell it. The project you mentioned is also still consistently developing so far. There is no reason to sell it.

If you have a job outside of crypto, make a new portfolio with the latest prices, but if not, stay patient.

Withdraw funds if an emergency occurs.

Patient friend, because I also experienced the same thing as you feel, for now the right step is to be patient and hold coins in your portfolio until the time comes because if you exchange them now for money then your patience for 2 years will be in vain.

It is difficult to give you the right advice at the present time. I personally have invested in many altcoins and have failed, my decision is to revise the portfolio. Instead of investing in too many currencies as before, I currently invest only in some of the top coins in the market.
You can refer to my decision, good luck

You have waited to long why not extend it further, if you are following the market, the market is moving fine and stable even if we are in pandemic,
you will be sorry if you sell those coins at this point in time, we just finish the halving and we are waiting for the market to improve and it will not be to long.

I agree with you, in fact, when one buys an alt it is because he sees potential in the project.
For example, many saw the potential in ethereum, in tron and in eos that make it possible to make smart contracts and dapp.
Now for example I'm looking at LUKSO, a very interesting project.

I feel you mate, I have also experienced that during 2018. I was bought a couple of altcoins to hold and hoping that the price will go up just like bitcoin but I was wrong, In the last quarter of 2018 the market becomes worse and the price of my holdings continued to dip. at first, I was no intention to sell my holdings But in 2019 I've changed my mind to save the remaining value of my holdings even I sell it in a loss.

if I were you I would still hold the coin and wait for the right time to benefit, you must be smart in seeing opportunities, use your funds as well as possible and remain optimistic about the coins you buy, no one knows what will happen in the future, only patience will be your key.

you should be patient, but also follow news regarding projects that you have investment in, since you can be sure that no future price will be if there is no development on the project, if there is development, you can expect something from your investment in the future, it is not for sure, but first step in the project is to have on-going development

You modify it and you lose more.
There's still a chance with Ethereum since a staking process will take place.
Don't sell them.

Now, about the other coins, I don't really know what to do with them.
IMO, I will let it stay intact. I won't hurt myself by selling it. It will be long sleepless nights after selling it while knowing I lose a lot.

Well the best way out of this in my opinion would be to double down on your position. Buy more so that with the upcoming rally, you can easily offset your losses and hopefully make so nice gains. This is no financial advise though but that is what I would do if I were you.

You are not just alone. I must be one of them like you who had burnt the fingers by choosing altcoins for investments. As you have mentioned that your prices in USD, I believe you got plenty of chances to reach those price levels regardless of how those coins will be performing but bitcoin price will skyrocket to get you sure profits. But, my case is totally different than you.

Yes, I do calculate my profit/losses in terms of BTC rates. I have bought ADA for example when it was 2000 satoshi and now it is recovering around 800 satoshi after last 4 days of recovery. I bought few ethereum on the prices around 0.035 BTC. I do not calculate my profits in altcoins investments in fiat value because I started my altcoin investments with the plan of maximizing my bitcoin stash; so there is no meaning of calculating my profit levels in fiats.

I quoted right post below  ︾ for suggestion
Don't hold altcoins, sell it, buy Bitcoin and Hold it for 3-5 years.
and you never late to sell it, Just keep your Ethereum for 2 years from now or sell it when POS FOMO.

same suggestion here. based on what the OP stated, I have good feeling with eth in the next couple of years or less. after this Eth 2.0, we may see good progress in terms of its price. right now, it is still doing good but of course it is way below from when the OP bought it. but imo, eth is one of the alts which is worth the wait. so OP just hold on to your eth for now...

Such happened to me already, but I'm still holding strong, it might take longer than you could ever thought but you've actually lose if you sell, NEO is a very good altcoin that follows every steps of Bitcoin, everything depends on future value of Bitcoin so relax and keep holding

You haven't lose yet if you do not sell those. If you are here in crypto for a short-term trading, then that's a pretty bad move for you to invest in that price, especially if you really need the money. Just hold them for another year or so because now that the halving is done, it is expected that Bitcoin's price would rise in a few months or even a year and we all know that most of the altcoins follow Bitcoin price.

You should know the risk you've taken when you invested in those altcoins.

What is the best way forward? Sell them and get in lower? modify my portfolio to todays prices or forget them and hope that some day it will go back up?
I quoted right post below  ︾ for suggestion
Don't hold altcoins, sell it, buy Bitcoin and Hold it for 3-5 years.
and you never late to sell it, Just keep your Ethereum for 2 years from now or sell it when POS FOMO.

very sad to hear it mate
I only advise you to forget about the portfolio that you have now because selling at a low price only causes you to lose a lot of money. if you still have enough money then I recommend buying again

You are either unlucky or very patient my friend..
It depends on the amount that you invested
If you invested a lot of money.. my advice to you is to exchange your altcoins with ETH and BTC and hodl them since you have already been holding them for a long time now
Or buy tokens/coins with huge potential in the future that are more likely to sustain its prices (xrp/link/tzs/tron/etc) and try to try diversify

You should always monitor the value of your ALTs. Anyway I would keep ETH to the maximum I would consider selling before a dump (with a stop loss) and I would look around for new more futuristic projects

What's your plan from the beginning? Are you in a hurry now?
Its too late for you to sell and if you do that today, you will once again lose the opportunity and that's a double burn. Don't make it worse by dumping what was dumped in the past 2 years. You are not the only who lost money but a lot of us are into this wagon trying to make money out of the investment we put. Now patience is another thing to control.
And it's not late for him to wait for the next bull run.

Ask yourself why you bough them. If reasons still stands then simply buy more to lower your average buy price. If reasons are gone then sell them. There is no middle way. If you bough them without any reason then ....

Your not alone in that situation we cannot deny frustrations but as long as you’re not selling anything yet then the game is not yet over. Just hold onto it, it will take time before those coins rise again for the meantime the best option is “patience”.

why the dilemma ?, if we want to invest make sure the altcoin you choose is a good project,
if you want to be safe, then choose the top 20 coinmarketcap and invest your money there

It would be better to buy more to decrease your average price as coin prices are lower these days. If you want to actively trade for profit, you can first bring down your average price and sell for smaller profits and buying on smaller drops. Selling all of them would not be a good idea as you still need to invest that money somewhere and the three coins you've invested in have a good potential in near future.

There is no dilemma about altcoins, the only present dilemma that I know of is individuals.

Do your own research, and never blame a loss on dilemma, instead figure out why it happened and work it out

If you buy some altcoin higher than the current price then the best advice is to hold it because if we sell low at the current price it still won't cover your losses, let alone modify the current price, it still fluctuates, not sure when it will be stable.

Halving has been completed and if you look at history there is always a good increase so it is better that we wait for the right time in the next few months compared to have to modify your portfolio.

Sorry to hear that you lost a lot when the altcoin crash.  I think we are in the same boat, but I never lose hope.  As long as the developer is still active and the altcoin is trading well in the market, there is still a possibility for a rebound but I think it will take time.

I would say take the the forget and hold option (though you should always be updated on the prices and development so that you can sell if things goes really bad such as dev abandoning the project), just hold them and wait till it bounces back.

IMO, be patient. We're already going to that point of reversal and if you still have all the patience, keep it and wait until it reaches back or if not, at least near to the bought price for those altcoins. But, if you are in a rush and you don't mind selling them, it's in your hands and up to your strategy how you'll use the money that shall return to you. If you don't mind telling us, how much we're talking in here on ETH, ADA and NEO. How much money you have invested for each of them when you bought?

i would wait and see if Bitcoin dominance (65,1%) continues to weaken, giving room to further Altcoins dominance.

Everything can happen, so too prices can change quickly, in the past the price of ETH alone reached 1500 $ and now only 200 $, all of which were profitable and some were disadvantaged.  My advice is not to store all assets in crypto, because the risk is greater

If you are still holding ethereum and just keep it all in your wallet. You should wait until the next big wave that will be coming from the ethereum 2.0 to recover your lost.

All of your coins are good coins except NEO.

Just hodl them all right now.

this is a good thought and step if you consider it all, don't panic, be patient, and wait, someday everything Altcoin will experience glory again.

Not only do you experience the same thing when buying a certain Altcoin at a slightly high price at first, but now it continues to decline.
I also experienced the same thing, calm down friend, everything will be fine, keep in mind, that now you are investing in the long term one or two years to come.

do not have much to say to you, but i would not sell at the moment, it is just after halvening, and if it does not go up in next year and half, probably would not go up after as well, so i would wait that period, but you should decide for yourself

all three coins look promising, ETH is waiting for ETH 2.0 launch, ADA development is promising with Shelley roll-out, and NEO is also in good progress
