Steem is good because it already has been successful as a startup and its community growing constantly.

Altcoins are a really risky investments. I agree with the point that in short run we can get more profit from alts than in bitcoin but this is also like gambling itself, bitcoin has a really strong pricr and it is hard to actually crash the price but for alts people only gamble with it and sometimes there are chances that big alts like monero can fall to 0$. If you want more profit with high risk go with alt otherwise keep patience with bitcoin
I agree with you that some useless coins lide RedCoin, DogeCoin and etc can fall down to 0$. But if we look on such coins as dash, ETH and some other once. They are quiet stable and can compete with bitcoin easily Smiley

My main investment is in Bitcoin, I also own a couple of Dash coin & Ethereum.
I've got some money left to invest, but can't decide which coins might have the biggest potential.
(I'd go for the long run - just keep them safe for a while and see what happens)

I've narrowed it down to a few.
Which ones would you go for, and why? Grin

Ripple
Steem
Monero
Golem
Litecoin
Asch
Dogecoin
Bytecoin

Out of all the coins you've given, for short term I'd go with Ripple but for long term I think Litecoin would be a good investment out of all the choices you've made.

If you're looking for short-term investment, get some Golem (brass update will most likely lead to price growth). You may also want to keep an eye on LTC now that the founder is back full-time.
And I agree, Steem seems to have reach it ATH for the next couple of months, so investing now wouldn't be wise. Also, you may need to broaden your list, most of the coins on it are either overvalued or slow development. Look out for Lisk, Lbry, Viacoin, Ardor, and maybe Verge instead

For ripple, my opinions are negative because the supply is unknown. For waves, I think very positively. For Golem, I don't thnik the aim of the project will be real. And for the rest, I don't have much information.

Monero development is too slow
Monero is third in development activity, behind Bitcoin and Ethereum. The improvements made in just the past year are incredible. You have no idea what you're talking about.

I wouldn't pick any of those coins. Ripple is overpaid now, Steem hits the ATH USD-wise, Monero development is too slow, Golem ummm pass super computer projects, Litecoin already overvalued, Asch never heard of it, Doge overvalued, Bytecoin overvalued. If you want to make long term investment you should pick from bottom prices. Now almost all of your choices made their big moves in last 3 months.

My preference, in order -

Best: Monero, Golem. Monero and Golem are at the top because, well, Monero has always been the underrated but very important tech (financial privacy). Although there are great alternatives coming up (Zcash, Zcoin), it is, essentially, the first mover.

Good: Then Litecoin, Dogecoin are similar - they'd probably grow in value slowly as they've been accepted as the "silver" to Bitcoin if it were "gold". They have communities which seem pretty good in comparison to Bitcon's (especially Dogecoin). But one can argue they aren't as technologically innovative as some of the current projects, so I'd expect their value to slowly increase with the crypto market.

Neutral: Ripple/Steem I'm neutral; I can't judge the value proposition of decentralized social media. And Ripple kind of breaks away from the idea of decentralization and solves different problems from Bitcoin, which I'm not too familiar with - but that has its own merits.

Bad: I would not even consider Asch, Bytecoin. Asch I haven't even heard of until recently (seems like a Chinese Javascript platform? Don't we already Lisk?), and Bytecoin I personally stayed away because of the shady history.

Sit back, relax, eat some nachos and have a drink.
Reddcoin

Because it's really low atm, expected growth 20% in 1 week.

I wouldn't put money on Reddcoin. It's self-deprecating. Who are the users buying these coins to give? Users just want them for money; it's a 2 way street.

Steem.it is doing well because they've had a working product and early adopters with lots of it to go around. But there is hardly any cycle, and will eventually die out unless money is flowing in the other direction too.
