popular to whom ? investors (vultures) ?
or the common people who need to find a currency to use day to day in the real world ?

there should be 1 choice for the public.
they should not be faced with a list of 7,000 or 8,000+ coins to choose from.

Title ?

I say screw 'em !
We don't need vultures who want Lambo's with their profits.
Catering to them is the last priority as far as I am concerned.

...only there was an easy way to store them.

I 've been looking at all those coins on coinmarketcap for a while, i am really tempted to buy some but everytime i end up not buying any for two reasons:

- first there are so many that i don't really know which ones to buy ( i don't have time to read everything on every coins and there are also a lot of specific things i dont understand)

- secondly and most importantly i don't want to download one wallet per coins.

If there was a desktop wallet with a nice and clean interface supporting hundreds of coins i would put a few dollars in hundreds of them.

Shapeshift has made it very easy to exchange them but with no way to store these coins easily in one wallet , they will most likely be adopted by tech people only ( which i am not one)

So my question is why isn't there a desktop wallet where i can store many many different coins ? is this even possible to create? are there any project in the making?
Just store them in the clients, it not like you will ever spend them anyway, they are for holding until you trade them back into bitcoin, hopefully for profit.

yeah..multicoin wallet is your one option if you don't like storing so many coins on your computer. Personally, I would rather store them on my computer than somewhere else. I buy what I want and if I"m planning to hodl I'll just transfer them to usb flash drive and forget about them...when day comes when I want to sell..I'll just download the wallet and sell. Alternatively, I believe you can use multicoin wallet online and download wallet.dat from em..I'm not sure if it's doable since I've never done it before.

i personally don't hold any altcoin for long term so i am comfortable with keeping what i have on an exchanger (i use bittrex) they have 2fa and can be secure enough for storing your coins.

but for just a couple of coins i use their SPV wallet. for example for litecoin i use Electrum-ltc which is exactly the same as Electrum for bitcoin. so i can store them myself on my own PC.
