I like Elacoin and Junk Coin myself. I also keep a healthy chunk in Bitcoin and browse the other altcoin markets looking for a good deal Smiley

I've been holding BTC/LTC/NMC for what feels like forever. I've just started buying other alt coins just to throw some money around because its been getting a tad boring as of late.

I've purchased Quark which has been doing real well for me. I bought some Alphacoins..lol.. not doing so good there. I bought into DVC devcoin because I like the story behind it. I like the fact that open source developers from all around the world can count on making fair money for doing there job, unlike these days where they work for free and only when they can type of thing.

Bought some nibble, same shit as alphacoins, but I do like the name. Phoenix coins, also nothing going on there.

I got worldcoin and zetacoin which I am pleased with both, not making too much money but holding strong.

So.. I think everyone should get into altcoins to some degree. you never know which one may pop but I'll tell you this, SOME WILL POP.. btc and ltc will not be the only two who succeed. I promise you that!

I'm especially thinking about buying at least 1 dollar worth of coins that cost as little as 3 cents etc...- Imagine how many wallets I'll have lol. If bitcoins really take off beyond this point, I'm hoping that people who're getting into the game late rush toward those coins, tightening up their demand.

I have several. I figure why not put a few bucks in now while its still cheap and hope one of them takes off.

I check coinmarketcap.com and cryptocoincharts.info regularly. Also, crypsty.com is probably the leading exchange for altcoins w/ the most coins. Btc-e.com is good for the ones you mentioned (but watchout, nobody knows who runs this site, and could disappear at a moments notice). You can also check your profit on a trade in realtime at http://tradeli.st

Be careful for short term trading. There are hundreds of pump-n-dumps going on any given day. I'm not advocating for or against the pump/dumps but its 100% deregulated, so you are exposing yourself to those shenanigans as well.

Here's a curated list to follow: https://twitter.com/CryptoTradeNews/lists/pump-n-dump

I find Bitcoin and all the altcoins fascinating. Its going to be a fun ride to see where it leads us.

Mastercoin (MSC), the best of the lot, but not really an altcoin. Lean about it  here:

http://www.mastercoin.org/

Bitcoin Magazine had an article on MSC:

As did Coindesk:

Sure, alts are a great way to diversify and hedge against BTC. Personally I like Litecoin the most, but there are some other interesting ones.

Peercoin is cool but Im very interested in that same developers new coin, called Primecoin, which searches for Prime numbers.

It doesnt rely on SHA256 or Scrypt, it relies on large Prime numbers being very elusive. Its CPU-mined currently, but still pretty tough to mine a block.

Both the alts that you mentioned are among those that have the higher chances to succeed. Litecoin is already an established alt coin with a solid user base and a strong network and peercoin offers some genuine features over bitcoin like proof of stake.

Does anyone else buy alternate currencies like Peercoins and Litecoins? What do you think about them compared to bitcoins. I 'bought'(coinbase) my first bitcoins this week, I'm thinking of buying peer and lite coins with it. Is it a good idea to leave some as bitcoins?
