It's not necessary that a higher ranked member must or definitely has knowledge greater than a lower rank member.
The merit system focuses to forcee all the shitposters who truly do no work and  just post for the sake of increasing their post count and earn from signature campaigns to make constructive to the point post. And it's succeeding in its aim.
And about a like button, that's just not really needed when merit system is already there. Mostly all the bounty hunters here might get a little p*ssed off from this new merit system. But those who come here just to seek knowledge and get advice are okay with any rule made in this forum!

hi,

we have so many problems about merit topic, also in Turkish part there is no merit resource. people started to keep them. i thought another system against this merit system and wanted to get your ideas about it, if it is possible or not.
There is exactly "zero" problem with the merit system. The problem is rooted to the users who shitpost to get paid. Only those people are the ones complaining about not getting merit.

People can apply as merit sources too. I am sure some people in your community might be willing to become a merit source. Theymos has made it public how to apply as merit source - maybe you did not read it yet.

there will be no merit system, but there may be a like button, at least for people who shares something, may understand if its usefull for others or not. but the main idea is after we get enough activity (in continuing activity system) for a new rank, we may ask votes from people at the same ranks with us and highers.
If you dont like the system, then please leave the forum. Or better make your own forum - what I have suggest several time to many shitposters. The problem is they never listen to this idea.

So I guess its clear to you that you need to up-your-game? You need to learn how to make constructive posts and not shitpost in order to get merit.

One of the reasons merit system was made for was to stop the non-sense idiot garbage vomitposts done by people in this forum. This is simply an indirect proof that its working as it was supposed to work.

I've noticed a decrease in the number of "shit posts" over the last few weeks.
I've also noticed this--but the reason is because I've added something like 200 people to my ignore list.

Look at this thread:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2864198.0;topicseen

This is a typical shitpost-magnet thread that invites the illiterate spammers to come up with a variation of these:
I don't believe it. i think bitcoin is the source of income . it is very helpful for our good life. it can change our life but it not give life . so i think bitcoin is not source of life.
So many peoples think that bitcoin change their life I also agree with them. peoples invest money into bitcoin because they earn more than previous time as a rasult they become economical established and mantaly fresh.
it's possible to live on bitcoin because we have money here and we just need patience so here i will change life in bitcoin as well.

...and I could go on showing these typical 3rd world shitposts.  I've put most of the users in this particular thread on ignore, and it's puzzling to me what they think they're going to gain by posting all of this crap.  They sure as hell aren't going to rank up unless they buy some merit on the black market.  And if any of these members that I've quoted here happen to read this thread, take note.  You are the worst of the worst here on bitcointalk.  These posts are complete garbage.

But I have some hope that this system will eventually drive these idiots away.  It'll take some time, but I do think it will happen.

I will say this, I've noticed a decrease in the number of "shit posts" over the last few weeks.  I think that is evidenced just by the fact that good topics tend to stay on page 1 or page 2 longer, now, when before they were getting bumped to page 3 rather quickly by useless spammy threads.  So, I think the merit system is working to reduce nonsense posts, but I don't think that it is working in the sense that it wasn't supposed to hinder the ranking up of "average" quality members ... but it seems to be doing just that.  As you pointed out, merit is mostly flowing to the very high quality, well known, Hero+ posters ... which is understandable, of course, but lower ranking posters of average/good quality are not really getting much.  I think that is something that may have to be looked at in the future if adjustments are made.

At first I would have preferred a like/dislike system, too, but I could see that being abused since a person could create a bunch of accounts and "cross-like" all the accounts to rank them up.  Scarcity of merit is a needed attribute to making it work and avoiding abuse.  But a system where you have to be "liked" by higher ranking members in order to rank up, and spammers could be tagged with "dislike" to knock their ratings down, could work, too, I supposed.

I agree with that point but not all the higher ranked members are experts and the lower ranked members don't have any knowledge. But it is hard for us to get merit with the currenct system, but in future there will be changes made into the system until that wait for that system to settle down.

But those 57 merits sources are not going to enough for the form so we need more merit sources for each and every section then only all the good posts can get merits.

merit is designed to be scarce that's why only handful of people are to be given these responsibility. But i do agree in having worthy and dedicated merit sources in every section or try to spread those 57 into other parts of the forum.

i think the biggest problem of the merit system is, higher ranks know much more than us so its so hard to find something thats usefull enough to get merit from them and lower ranks have no merit.

some high ranks achieved their respective ranks through time. You can be as good as them with hard work and dedication. DO anything that'll improve your knowledge so that when given an opportunity, you can go exchange your ideas with them. Who knows? Maybe they'll send you some merits.

No merit source but I've noticed that a majority of recent topics and replies, that have been merited, are either turkish or russian (top recent merited replies).

That's not the problem, that's just how it is. Also, nullius has 98 activity, registered on March 29, 2017 an is the second highest top merited user (recent). So it doesn't matter what rank you are, if you've go the knowledge, you'll get up there.

You have your point since newbies are here to learn more hopefully but this is just a new system that needs time for us to appreciate it. Let’s just wait for more months and if this thing works no need to make any changes again but if its not I’m sure the admin are pretty aware of that and they know better than us.

hi,

Do you mean merit source? I'm sure theymos has assigned at least a person as a merit source for each local board.

i think the biggest problem of the merit system is, higher ranks know much more than us so its so hard to find something thats usefull enough to get merit from them and lower ranks have no merit.

Well, that's the whole point of the system. You need to keep learning and giving contributions to the community to rank up. Higher ranks don't always mean more knowledge.

But those 57 merits sources are not going to enough for the form so we need more merit sources for each and every section then only all the good posts can get merits.

Agree, I don't think 57 sources are enough. There are too many posts in this forum, I know most of them are crap, but 57 sources are clearly not enough. Would love to hear theymos feedback now after the system has run for a month.

I don't see any problem at all since it has been introduced. But the system is still under observation if any change is required then it will be fixed, no doubt.
If there is no Turkish source then someone from your community can apply for it. I would have asked you to apply but in my opinion you are not a perfect fit for this responsibility.

people started to keep them.
Merit is not like a coin/token if you hodl then it will rise in future so that you can sell for profit.
Look at this user [alia], she has more merits than her activity. I hope you got my point.

Your idea and the current system actually doesn't have any difference.
Like button or merit button, what's the difference here? Those who can click the like button can also click the merit button, isn't it?
Your voting idea to rank up will not work in my opinion, because if someone didn't like your posts and didn't merit you than why would someone vote you to rank up? I see no sense here.... maybe I'm noob.  Roll Eyes

It's obvious that higher rank members know much more than lower ranks and lower ranked members need to learn a lot of things.
It's not hard to get merits in your post if you make quality posts. Again [alia] is the example for you. Even I don't make quality posts and that's why I don't get merits either.

A friendly advice,
NEVER COMPLAIN, JUST GIVE YOUR BEST TO PROVE YOURSELF. IT MAY TAKE TIME BUT YOU WILL NEVER FAIL.

The merit system seems to be working well. The reason that many posts aren't getting merit is that they don't deserve it. In fact many are so bad that I've been putting the posters on ignore.

You don't have to have a great deal of knowledge to earn merit. Asking a sensible and well reasoned question can earn merit, but not if it's been asked a hundred times before, and you couldn't be bothered to read the threads.
