This is not good news for all those who have deposits on this exchange. If you want to survive cryptocurrency transactions, it is best to put your wallet in your pocket or store it in your computer. If you really want to trade, you should choose some top exchanges. , Which will minimize the possibility of being hacked,

Me too. As of now, I have no other funds in unpopular exchanges because when bitcoin hit the peak there are many exchanges moves out. Scam exchanges exist and hacking events grow more when bitcoin rise up. Actually, I did not know this exchange but it is also alarming that there is an exchange again which confirmed they hack. This is a bad start for altilly exchange hope they will resolve the issue to get back the trust to the people.
Many of us are not aware of this exchange until somebody has spoken up and brought it up in this thread. The bigger exchanges have seen times that they're dealing with some maintenance and hacks but this is another level of it if the exchange where your funds are can't assure the safety of your money. If in case the site will be back, take back your funds immediately, as in immediate!

The altilly cryptocurrency exchange looks unreliable, having all the signs of fraud. Working with cryptocurrency is currently associated with a lot of risk. You need to remember that a successful trader is someone who knows how to stay calm in any situation. By the way, this applies not only to conducting profitable transactions, but also to choosing an exchange.

First of all I thank you for sharing this news so that we can be careful.  Can you share the telegram link with us?

Cryptocurrency exchange hacks are becoming more and more common now a days. The security of the exchanges needs to be strengthened. We need to trade on high secured top level exchanges to protect our personal asset. Our asset should not be stored on the exchange for too many days.

When site are down, you can go to coinmarketcap and you have link for telegram or blog or twitter for each exchange

That is bad i had some tokens worth 200 usd atleast there and i thought it will be ok to store there because that project was not listed anywhere else,
What an unfortunate incident, hopefully, they will be able to recover the funds and damages with their system. Regardless, it is inadvisable to store the funds in exchange as it is a third-party wallet, which means they are in control of your funds. Aside from being prone to hacks, they can elicit an exit scam.

if they claim to be closing just because of this i would believe that they have done all this intentionally to exit scam.
It could be the potential reason, but as of now, it is difficult to make any statement as many exchanges have experienced a comparable circumstance. You can communicate with them via telegram, thereby, you can see any update about the exchange.

I hope this is not an inside job. Very unfortunate for those who have coins on that exchange. How many times have we read that we should not store our coins in an exchange?

About the statement from altilly, you can read it on their website itself.

That's why it's never safe to store assets in exchanges, even they have security protocols they are still vulnerable of being hacked. Even major exchanges like binance and kucoin were hacked that has great security were still penetrable by hackers. Despite that, hoping altilly will be able to stand up back and get back to it's operation the soonest.

I've never heard of this exchange. I try to avoid them, the unpopular exchanges as much as I can. But for the users of this exchange, there could be good reasons why they chose to use it rather than the popular.
What a way to end the year. This is why you shouldn't use small exchanges because the fact that Altilly can't do anything besides wait for the result means that they aren't really prepared for this or .... exit scamming?
I have seen the latter part if they say that it is a requirement for them to update the servers with those conditions that are unsure. Unlike the bigger exchanges if there's a fault on their end, they give their customers an assured statement that funds are safu.

Is this only about popular exchanges and non popular exchanges? Remember that kucoin was hacked this year too? That's not a small exchange either, the problem affecting crypto exchanges is security, team and devs must plan to upgrade their security from time to time, binance exchange was once hacked too and I'm sure they've find better solution to hacks since then

Developers should start working harder on more secured platforms for crypto lovers, we can't keep entrusting our money to platforms that have weak security, the biggest crypto threat remains security since 2017 that I've entered crypto space, DeFi that starts getting popular this year also plagued by same deadly threat, this needs to stop

Bad way to ends in 2020.

All trading is halted: https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/altilly/

If they do not restore trading in the next couple of days, Altilly doesn't have a future because most people will dump it and kill it.

Update: 26th of December 2020 - 01:25 CET

Dear Altilly users,

Earlier this week. We've noticed suspicious activities on our Altilly servers.
After rebooting and checking the servers, we've noticed the same activity and a new system user being created on our servers.
Meaning that the system was hacked above OS level most likely using recue mode during the reboot.
We were still unsure what was going on and decided to move things over to a new hosting provider.

During the process, we've lost access to our servers at our previous hosting provider, including the database, wallets and codebase of Altilly.
We are investigating what is going on and what has been saved so far.
We are not sure yet if funds are lost.
We are still waiting for final analysis from the current hosting provider.
We will keep you posted.
