OK help a dum dum here please guys.

If you add a second PSU and just want to power two more GPU and two risers with that second PSU.  How do you trigger that PSU to turn on?

If you are using 2 PSU's, split the power evenly. Don't power all the risers from 1 PSU and all the GPU's from the other.

If you have 8 GPU's, put 4 risers and 4 GPU's on one power supply.  Keep everything as even as possible. Make sure the wattage from each power supply isn't going past 80% of the capacity and don't use any of the cables that come from china, especially the molex or the 4 pin that are known to burn up. Pay a little extra to buy OEM cables.

Remember, only power 2 risers per cable, not 3. One VGA cable per GPU unless you're running 6/8 pin single 1060's, then you can run 2 GPU's off one cable.

I'm powering 10 risers and 3 gpu and cpu and 3 gpu with one psu and 7 gpu with another psu.
Both psu are connected to different circuit breakers
is that safe ? am i doing the same mistake as thread starter ?
please advice as i dont want to burn my gpus

hi thank you for reporting this problem
i think right now i'm doing the same mistake, not sure if i understood correctly though
I have 2 evga 1300 and one is powering the risers and the other psu is powering the gpu. do you think this is risky ? both psu are connected to different circuits

AFAIK you are risking crosstalk through the GPU.

Are you saying you are powering the risers only with a 1300w PSU and all the 6 or 8pin GPU connectors with the other PSU?

Turns out you're not supposed to connect anything else to the molex cable that's going into the add2psu, also you're supposed to power all risers with the primary PSU, any other tips/tricks y'all know of?

My understanding is that you should power a riser with the same psu that powers the card via vga/pcie connector.

This is correct, I am 100% sure that you should isolate the power supplies from each other and not mix the riser power from one supply and the 8pin from another.

This looks like a heavily overclocked card that just blew up. Seems like the card received more current that it could chew.

It actually wasn't overclocked at all, it blew up within seconds of powering up the rig  Sad I was powering risers with both PSU's which I now know is a no no.

No idea what you guys are doing wrong but I've been using dual PSU without an ADD2PSU since 2013 and never had issues.

Basically I just short the second PSU with a paper clip and start both at the same time.

Just keep them grounded and make sure no 12V mix between PSU and you will be fine.

You can interconnect the different PSU with different GPUs and risers. One PSU can power the GPU power and another the riser

There's no need to try to start both PSUs at the same time.

The secondary PSU can be forced on first, then the primary PSU can be started normally via the main switch connected to the motherboard.

the seconday psu connects its 24 pin into the add 2 psu. the main psu connects into the molex. how it work is, when the main psu cuts power, the add 2 psu sends that signal via the 24 pin mobo cable to the 2ndary psu. another point to note, you can control on the add2psu the amount of time you want before the 2ndary psu cuts off. i believe its btwn 1-5 seconds. not too sure. i use something like this

https://www.amazon.com/Motherboard-Adapter-Machine-splitter-TeamProfitcom/dp/B074QNMRST

works very well for me. i also power the risers and card via the same psu. i believe you can power the risers and mobo via a main psu, and power your gpus via a 2ndary gpu.

good luck, and stay safe brother. last thing you want is a fire.
