In as much as I do have the strong urge to return to gambling after a win I can't still conclude that I'm a compulsive gambler,  I'm definitely not because I literally don't go that extra miles just to gamble or satisfy my gambling craves, what I do is gamble at my time an leisure I don't allow myself get pressured to gamble for any reason whatsoever.

Very interesting take on determining if you are a compulsive gambler. It's important that people who are should answer this honestly. Personally, my score is 0 just because I don't gamble that much anymore, and I'm just doing it for fun, and it wouldn't hurt my finances because of the budget I allot to it. If it were in trading, that might be a different story with all the meme coins. Lol. Maybe someone should make one.
I know it is not the first time I see such a thread but I haven't saw one yet in the trading field. Do they really think that trading is not alarming as gambling? Maybe because they can see that skills can matter there and there are plenty of strategies lying around for a trader to take advantage of and help them win their trades. But they don't know that there are also lots of traders who lost their money and everything. So it is risky like a gambling too, more if we use meme coins and the likes.

Anyways, for me, I haven't answered the questionnaire yet but I know to my self that I am a compulsive gambler already, though maybe not too much that I lost a lot or everything.

It’s great to see such a valuable topic here, especially coming from someone with experience. Regarding compulsive behavior in gambling, I believe it is the main factor behind losing large amounts of money in a short time and one of the biggest causes of addiction, especially when you start doubling your bets in an attempt to chase your losses.

Personally, I know for sure that this has been a major issue for me and it was the reason behind my significant losses. Currently, I am afraid of gambling because of how compulsive I can get at times.

I will answer these questions based on my past experiences and how I used to gamble. Let’s see if I break any records here, Haha.

1. Yes, I once picked up my phone while studying and started gambling.
2. Yes, it was one of the reasons that ruined my relationship at home.
3. Probably yes, indirectly.
4. Definitely yes, especially the last time I did.
5. Yes, unfortunately I did before. I tried to be more specific.
6. Not exactly sure about this one.
7. Also yes, I had that feeling of a "close win" whenever I lost, even though I fully understood how gambling works and that every bet is independent of the last.
8. Same.
11. Not exactly for gambling, but I did have to sell some of my belongings to repay debts I took on for gambling. XD

Well, most of the remaining answers are also "Yes." This topic truly made me more aware of how bad it was. Trust me, I now fully understand all the harm and damage I caused myself before, trying to convince myself that my gambling wasn't excessive. At the same time, I’m happy that I managed to save myself from even worse consequences.

My answers to most questions is "no", so I'm not a compulsive gambler. However, I've already gambled to win money to be used for paying bills. I had spare money to pay for the bills, but I though it was a smarter idea to just keep the portfolio intact by gambling it and using gambling profit to pay the bill without having to touch the money I already had. I had the wrong idea gambling was a like a bank with infinite money, so always I needed funds, I just had to gamble enough until acquiring it.

But thankfully it has never reached to the point of borrowing funds to gamble, neither selling stuff or doing illegal practices in order to raise the money.

I guess I am not a compulsive gambler if you need 7 positive answers or more, but I had more than 1 positive, so I must be on the right track Cheesy

Anyway, that's a pretty good list and hopefully people are honest with themselves, because it's one thing to read it and answer yes, but another if you can do something about it. I bet real compulsive gamblers who take this test will simply say "oh, that's what I thought... whatever, it's not like I can fix it myself".

I think it was the casino owner is the ones that can earn more profit because they can choose to create original games and solo all their gains. The only con is that it can be more hassle especially when we are still starting.

As for the question if what I'm going to choose, it would be better if you can add a simple gambler because that is what I'm going to choose for now, as I'm not fortunate enough to have a good skill or capital to start a casino or become a casino gaming provider. If you will noticed, I only say for now because I might still consider choosing one of them later on if my life have changed dramatically. You know what I mean there  Wink.

I have a few "yes" & "no" answers, and on some questions, my answers are big "no"...Some things are simply never done! You don't borrow money to gamble, you don't sell things so you can gamble... and if gambling significantly affects someone's mood, that's also a very bad thing, so just stop gambling.

maybe no. 9 is the only one where the money I gamble with is limited and when that is gone, of course I stop gambling immediately, it's good to get used to this behavior as a gambler.

Then the rest of the questions I answer are all no. Because I'm not a desperate person to do such things and
I also know the consequences of gambling when it's really excessive.

I have found a very useful list of questions on many Gambling addiction-related websites. I thought it would be a good idea to post these questions here in the form of a poll, who knows it might help someone identify his addiction.

While only you can decide if you have a gambling problem, we have found that most compulsive gamblers will answer ‘Yes’ to at least 7 of these questions.

Source : https://www.gamblersanonymous.ie/am-i-a-compulsive-gambler

Normally I would have answered almost all questions to yes if it were 2024 as I was gambling heavily and I knew I had some problems although I never wanted to acknowledge I had addiction problems. In late last year I acknowledged it and decided to quit forever which I think I did as since early January 2025 not a single cent spent on gambling. So my answer, real answer to those question is a no to every and each questions asked and I am very proud of it. Quitting gambling is never easy but I succeeded and am extremely calm mentally now.

All the questions where my answer is not "no" are what I have answered.

4. Have you ever felt remorse after gambling?
Remorse? No, Regret? Yes, maybe when I should have made a bet that ended up being the winning bet.
8. After a win do you have a strong urge to return and win more?
I have a strong urge to celebrate.

14. Do you gamble longer than you planned?
Common! I cannot be the only one guilty of this sometimes. Some casino games are really interesting and can catch your interest.

17. Does gambling cause you to have difficulty in sleeping?
After like almost winning, I could spend some minutes in the night before sleep thinking about it and what I would have done with the money, some minutes though, and then the sleep takes me away.

19. Do you have an urge to celebrate any good fortune with a few hours of gambling?
I said this in Number 8 already.

In summary, I am not a compulsive gambler.

I am not a compulsive gambler, that I already know. When I scanned through the questions most of my replies were no. Anyways it is a good exercise. There is also a social desirablity response that make people to provide responses to the question that are socially desirable that is, there will be less people who will want to show that they are compulsive gamblers. But if this were to be an annoymous replies given to this, you will not see the social desirable respone and if the questions where ask in a reverse format you can be able to beat the socially desirable response to it.

Very interesting take on determining if you are a compulsive gambler. It's important that people who are should answer this honestly. 1. No, because I know gambling is only a temporary pastime for me in the free time I have, so work still has its time.
2. No, it has nothing to do with gambling, there is not even any influence, such as life usually no one is disturbed because I am not an addict.
3. No, any reputation is not affected because I also do not disclose gambling in my real life, as entertainment that does not need to be shared with others.
4. Surely, everyone must have felt regret about the gambling they did. I regret losing my $10 due to an unsuccessful attempt at a game at gambling.
5. Never, I have never associated it with debt or debt repayment or for any other need. I separated.
6. Perhaps, at the beginning of my gambling I was too ambitious to the point that I lost money (even if it was a little) but it made me disappointed and not ambitious anymore, this is quite normal.
7. Maybe not for me, because I know the more we play the game when we lose it will be a big loss, so I limit my game and won't come back even if I lose.
8. Maybe yes, it's because I try to keep playing without thinking about where to stop. But I started to limit myself when I won and had to rest and accept the victory peacefully.
9. Never, The first experience I did was to keep betting until there was nothing left and not a win to get, just a void without any winnings.
10. Never, I avoid that very much and will never make any loans for gambling or anything else.
11. Never, only a fool does that, I would never sell anything for gambling.
12. It doesn't matter, it's like normal money to me, I don't steal anything from anyone.
13. Perhaps, what happens is that gambling makes the household state messy and makes finances worse with uncontrolled gambling.
14. Perhaps, Since every bet also depends on luck and chance, if the target has not been reached then betting longer should be done.
15. Once, I was relieved of worries when betting on a win that I didn't expect, but it was a rare piece of luck.
16. Never, Only play if you have more money and don't think of using illegal means just to gamble, it's not a good way.
17. It could be because the gambling that is done makes me uneasy and more likely to be restless when the profit has not been obtained.
18. No, Not because of the factors mentioned, I gamble only for entertainment to fill the time of relaxation or relieve the fatigue that occurs.
19. No, if you are lucky to get profits and luck then there is no further gambling, it's time to rest.
20. Never, those who think of self-harm or suicide because of gambling are only those who are incapable of managing their day and think that gambling is only entertainment, not instant profits.

I would have answered yes to more than seven questions if this had been presented to me a long time ago. reading these questions now and answering these questions in my current state made me realize more that I am in a mentally good space when it comes to my gambling habits since I answered NO to all except question number 14 and 3, but then again, in question number 3 I can't help what people think about me.

I guess I'm not a compulsive gambler since I can't relate to most of the questions that you asked , I take my job seriously, I don't gamble when I'm supposed to be at work. To answer the next question gambling doesn't make my home unhappy In any way cause I always keep things balanced. Gambling hasn't affected my reputation because I gamble responsibly, I take my wins and my losses in private without letting it control my emotions. The answer to every other questions asked is no, if Gambling is done for entertainment purposes only it would save you from a lot of trouble.

For me, there is no need for such an exhaustive questionnaire, just by looking at the first three questions, if you answer just one “yes” it is already an indication that someone is not doing well. Others like 4, if they refer to a single time, punctually, it does not have to know so indicative, but deep down the one who has problems knows it, what he has not yet admitted it. There is no need for a test.

Starting out in gambling, I think I would have scored more than 12/20, but currently, I only gamble weekends and I keep strict tabs on myself - the amount I spend, the time I spend, even the type of games I play. I put my mind that I am gambling for fun, so I don't expect the millions to come from it.

So if I'm on a losing streak, I take it that it's one of those days and I just take a step back from the game instead of getting angry or transferring aggression. I don't chase losses. No, that's one thing I did starting out that cost me a lot of money so don't chase losses anymore. I definitely don't see myself selling any valuable property just to gamble, knowing that it's a game of luck and you can lose it all.

Currently, I have a family friend that has been arrested by our local police because he borrowed to gamble, and when it was time to pay back, he couldn't pay back because he lost the game. After knowing that being in serious dept as a gambler is real, selling property, borrowing to gamble, are risks I wont take to gamble. So, from reading this list, I just got a sense of happiness that I'm not a compulsive gambling. I've learnt to gamble cautiously overtime.
