Simply without any explanation and reasons why they did this? Well, it's example of greedy business at it's finest. Many people have difficult time now and this action of Amazon may hit them very hard. During quarantine, most people prefer to buy stuff online, instead of going to physical shops. So, I doubt that Amazon are struggling with money and this affiliate commission cut was really needed. They just wanted to increase their huge profits even more.

i would rather blame the french government that blackmailed amazon if it distributes unessential stuff
If regular non essential stores are closed, then it is bad if Amazon is still allowed to sell non essential things, because that would be the government giving Amazon and other big corporations special privileges to stay open.

It's really very shady movement from amazon, especially now when Jeff Bezos adds $24bn to his fortune.
When online sales are growing rapidly and amazon's staff saw it themselves, how profit was rising, they decided to cut down money that will be spend on affiliates.
Right now a lot of TV channels advertise amazon because of various reasons (online shopping news, amazon related news like profit growth and etc) which is additional free marketing for them. Seems they are seeing huge increase in sales from their website and now want to cut down fees for it's affiliate members to weaken their positions and probably they think customers of those websites will use amazon directly (with the help of free news related ads from TVs).

I think such behavior should be punished, amazon is killing other online businesses that demand on it and killing online business now, when world moved on online services is shady.

At a time when people are loosing their jobs, hopelessly locked in their homes Amazon decides that’s not enough punishment for their Affliates, and therefore it has decided to cut down their Affliate earnings which is a horrible and a greedy move. Now I know that many will wonder why bother about this then let me tell you that many affliates rely on this income, and they earn from few thousand dollars to lakh of dollars monthly.

Amazon on Tuesday told members of its affiliates program that it will cut commission rates beginning April 21. Rates are being cut for a number of affiliate product categories. For example, the affiliate cut from purchases of furniture and home improvement products has fallen from 8% to 3%.

As you’ll can see that they only want to profit even in these difficult times which is really sad, and I sincerely hope that they’ll be forced to reverse their decision soon.
