I for one really hope that Amazon does eventually start accepting BTC. Amazon is my first go-to retailer for just about everything. Even though I never use Overstock, I think it'll be good for everyone in the BTC/Altcoin markets see this acceptance.

I think the biggest hurdle will be just getting the CEO/investors to understand what it'll mean to the company to do so, and the possible returns.

Drones are a joke, even if they get made by some 2020 or 2030. Imagine how many resources will go into making, operating and maintaining one. You can pay some cheap laborer to cover much more distance, with much more weight. It's not viable. Also if someone shoots down that thing, or it gets stuck on the way?

And amazon is not that interested in btc. It will be hard to play ball with government also. If you need something from amazon you will buy it anyway. Notlike you can say "oh, amazon not accepting my btc, fuck it, I'll get this stuff somewhere elseas cheap" (you wish)

They won't happen; they're just not even feasible or viable. I reckon it was just a publicity stunt and it worked.

I don't think they will be "forced", but if Bitcoin does become more widlley accepted then I think they'd be foolish not to accept it.

come on, just some other companies think another company will do something does not mean much.. You see this sort of claims all the time but just not for BTC.

And he said "the market is growing at 30% per month", in what sense??
Total volume of BTC traded with other coins, fiat or actual goods/services?? If it is the last one, then it is really something but it is unlikely.

Here's a link: http://www.businessinsider.com/overstock-bitcoin-2014-1 . This is the opinion of Overstock's CEO, nothing more.

I can't seem to find the original link to that statement. It is all get bounced among different sites.

And overstock.com swap the BTC immediately back for USD. So even Amazon does accept BTC, they probably gonna do the same thing until their manufacturers/suppliers starting to accept BTC.

The price you pay at retailers in BTC is likely higher than the USD equivalent if you sell your BTC for USD at exchanges, given this process happens instantaneously. Thus I would not buy stuff with BTC directly knowing I would get more of it if I sell them for USD first then buy the stuff.

This should change as the retailers, manufacturers and suppliers gain more confidence in BTC so that they would not swap BTC for fiat currency so quickly and relatively confident to hold those coins.
And these won't happen until BTC/fiat rate reach a more or less steady states. But this is a bit of long shot, perhaps very long.
One thing is that the ASIC is advancing quickly and everything changes when a major update of the hardware hits the general markets, so this is a big factor. However, this incoming 28nm ASIC maybe a bottleneck for the incoming 3-4 years.
I guess currently the only consumer level company that can produce quality cutting edge 14nm chips is Intel, and I highly doubt they are gonna share that with some small ASIC companies just for BTC, not to mention shrinking from 28nm to 14nm wont be that beneficial as 65nm to 28nm did.
So all the ASIC manufactures can do, given this 28nm bottleneck, is to squeeze more cores. So bigger and stronger device but also proportionally more expensive. (not much you can do about the architecture to improve the performance as it is just for SHA-256 unless a general CPU)

Heck I don't know why I even talk this much..
