He made a mistake in his life although he was only 12. He was just a young boy then, we will see how he will use his second chance. Maybe he regretted the awful thing he has done and want to start all over again.

Here is more detailed info that I got from another article that will hopefully shed more light on this very sad situation:

Well, this was just enough info to make me wonder what happened and why. So I surfed and found several articles better than this one. To save anyone else who is wondering from having to search for more information, here you go:

Catherine and Curtis' mother left her children behind with her abusive husband, after years of domestic abuse.
He was charged with second degree murder in 1989, but it was later reduced to a misdemeanor as justified homicide in self-defense.

He brought an adult male family member, who had been convicted of sexually assaulting a 14 yr old girl, into their home to live with them when Catherine was 4.
The family member slept with Curtis in his bed.
He sexually abused both Catherine and Curtis from that time on. For nine years.
Catherine said he would force her to perform oral sex until she threw up.

Child Services investigated several times over the years, and found and documented evidence of abuse. Nothing was done.
Curtis went to a police station in 1996 with a black eye. Nothing was done.
They appealed to their father and his girlfriend. Nothing was done.
The abuse continued.
Four months before the murder, an investigator from Child Welfare documented more evidence of sexual abuse. Nothing was done.

The children plotted to stop the abuse themselves, by killing the abuser and also the adults who allowed the abuse; their father and his girlfriend.
The first of their intended victims that was home alone was the girlfriend, Nicole Speights.
Curtis shot her in the chest with his father's gun, but then he freaked out from the reality; all the blood, etc.
Catherine took the gun and fired 8 more times, hitting the girlfriend 4 more times.
Catherine tried to calm her brother down, but he couldn't stop crying and shaking. They panicked and went to a friend's house and told them what they had done.
Then they went into the nearby woods, where they were later arrested.

Catherine later told Florida Today that she was willing to do anything to get away from the hell she lived in. Even prison would be better.
The pedophile relative has never been charged for his 9-year abuse of the children.

And you can't find anything else out about the pedophile.
That's all I could find.

i will let you guys check if this is fact. if it is true then...

I thought that he got life prison without parole, what happened?

I think Dread Pirate Roberts have a chance too, if he got released

I don't think so. These folks only killed someone, but Ulbricht withheld money from the state (and he made possible for others to do the same) what is a much much more serious felony... :/

Miami (AFP) - The American who became the country's youngest convicted murderer at age 12 was released from prison Tuesday after serving 16 years for killing his father's girlfriend.

Curtis Jones, now 29, was convicted with his 13-year-old sister Catherine Jones, and sent to prison in 1999.

He was released from Florida's South Bay Correctional Facility at 7:00 am (1100 GMT), a spokeswoman for the prison told AFP.

In 1999, the Jones children became the youngest people prosecuted as adults for murder in the United States after they confessed to killing their father's girlfriend, Sonya Nicole Speights.

Original reports said they killed her out of jealousy, but documents seen by news website Florida Today suggested it was because they had been sexually abused by another male relative
