I don't intend to be critical, but...
A third party is required to easily send BTC on the Ripple network?
Shouldn't it be easy without the 3rd party?

The same way when you enter into the bitcoin network you need someone to sell to you your first bitcoin. This is easier because this should be automated soon so you send your bitcoin to snapswap and it should be on the network soon after bitcoin transaction confirmations.

https://btc2ripple.com,

All the bitcoin you send on the ripple network are provably backed by Snapswap, it means any the gateway hold your bitcoin while you can exchange the IOU against anything on the Ripple Network (against, XRP,USd, CNY, anything...)

Bitcoin address holding the bitcoin can be checked so this is transparency.

I just read this article and I found this interesting : https://ripple.com/blog/in-the-pursuit-of-transparency/

Edit: I read the system is in beta so it needs 24hours for now (https://btc2ripple.com/#/faq)
