When people don't take your kindness seriously, halting it can be the best option. The problem is critical, and the man still persists on using his personal account to receive the money from a stranger, who is willing to help. If he was in need of the help, forwarding his wife's account number wouldn't have been a hassle to him. Maybe he has other intentions for the money, and the man, the helper, may have experienced similar things in his philanthropic journey. The man, whom his wife is sick, wasn't tagged a gambler, it's safe to say that the philanthropist, has sent money to people who didn't utilize properly in solving their problems. Addicted gamblers can go extra miles to convince others to give them money. Everyone is working hard to stay ahead of trouble or being the reason to someone else's hardship. Imagine being the reason why an addict went back to continue gambling after losing out on all his money. The man in need, acted suspiciously that was why he ran away.
As much as I like to follow the sage's wisdom of being kind no matter what happens, there should be a limit to the kindness that you're giving to a person that has a problem and that they're abusing your kindness to fuel what addiction they have, it's not logical or wise at that point to ever help someone if the help that you're giving to them isn't appreciated and only furthers their addiction. The wrong thing that the philanthropist did here is not that he helped but that he didn't put in a bit more effort into follow up and being stern about the help and that it should went to where it should went. Totally agree on that extra miles though, that's what addiction does to you, you try your best to find ways to enable and maintain/sustain your addictions, that's why they get desperate and lead to do a life of crime because they're losing all the options on how to suffice that addiction.

Every gambler must of course carry out full supervision of themselves and if they gamble continuously of course they will become addicted to gambling and to be able to get rid of addiction to gambling of course we have to make these rules and have to obey them, because if we cannot get rid of the addiction By gambling, we will have bigger problems in our lives.

If we are sure that we will be able to get rid of the gambling addiction, it would be better if we don't repeat it again, which will cause us to suffer huge losses in terms of our finances and it is possible that we will experience worse things than that if we are still gambling addicts.

Your comments emphasize key principles for tackling and conquering gambling addiction. Being aware of oneself and monitoring one's actions are vital in identifying problematic gambling behavior and working towards a solution.

Tho I know tackling gambling addiction is hard but it is still achievable in my opinion.

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!

I knew a son who drunken for the funeral of his father that's the most cruel thing that I ever watched but never know how is it possible for someone to gamble with the money that is offered as charity for your loved ones treatment.

It is very possible to use charity money for gambling just like someone will use up money kept in his custody and start to give excuse on it or reason while some won't give any reason for their action but will disappear into tin air, so it is very possible my friend.

The cause of such leading to gambling with charity money or money meant for someone's health bill is addiction. Gamblers that are addicted have inching fingers to use up any money with them especially when they are losing. In fact, being in debt has been a phenomenal known with addict gamblers and people tend to avoid keeping money in their custody. This is a realistic findings that has been attached to addict gamblers, so it won't be a ruse if money for health bill is used to gamble because at such point, they are only thinking of profiting to replace the money but unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

I didn't encounter anyone who did that personally but via media heard such kind of news but we never knew the complete story of it so I don't make any comment regarding that but if that what really happened then I consider it's most inhumane thing to do by someone and there is no forgiveness for such individuals who commits such mistakes even though they really know what is the possible outcome.

he stranger offering aid had no prior acquaintance with the husband. Why then was there apprehension that the funds might fuel gambling rather than support the wife's medical needs?

This short story reflects the current reality we live in.
maybe because his wife already knew beforehand that her husband often gambled on gambling and when he needed money, he used the money he had to gamble in the hope of doubling the money he had to cover his desired needs.
for me, there are several categories for a gambling addict, between addicts who always depend or always hope that when they need money they will run to the casino to double their money and gambling addicts who continue to gamble without clarity as they only follow their dopamine lust.
well, from here we already know that it's not just addiction that looks bad but hoping or depending on gambling is very bad because it triggers a worse addiction when everything seems to fail, such as a gambling addict who needs money to pay for his wife's medical expenses but only have a small amount and use it for betting in the hope of winning big and being able to pay the hospital bill.

the reason many gambling addicts are men is because a man's responsibility is so great for his family, a man is required to continue to earn money to meet the family's needs so I am not surprised that most of the rates of insanity throughout the world are greatest among men. because it's all the pressure of responsibility.
and when a man has no way out to be more responsible in getting money they will get frustrated and run in an instant direction such as gambling to get money.

Gambling addiction has been a common problem in our society. It has caused many problems in a person's life, such as money losses, or issues with family and friends, etc. It's important to support and help people with gambling addiction to overcome it. We should all always be open and not afraid to ask help or give help they need and live better lives.
Yes. That's the thing that we should do and not that we fear them or hate them, as I believe they are only a victim here and it's not their intention to become an addict to gambling because we all know how hard it is right? And I'm sure no one in their right minds will want to become one.

We must also admit it that for once, we are also like this even if not in a severe way. We know how it feels and we might also seek help to the people around us but there are gambling addicts who are afraid of doing it. They are lucky if they manage to stand up on their own but some are still on their addiction phase and are only waiting for our support.

Today, I sat amongst a group of people and listened to them as they shared a story that indirectly reflects how terrible the spate of gambling addiction is. It became evident to me that this addiction transcends demographics such as age, marital status, ethnicity, and religious beliefs, but appears to be more prevalent among males.

In this group a person shared a story of how a married reached out to her for medical assistance to support his wife terminal illness treatment. Instead of providing his wife's account details as requested, he offered his own. Concerned that the funds might be misused, particularly for gambling, the person offering assistance insisted on the wife's account details. However, the conversation ended there, with no further response from the man.

On the time that  you are really that addicted with gambling on which it do comes into a severe manner then you would really be ending up on having these kind of possible actions that you would be making. It doesnt look good or ethical but those addicts would definitely be making out those kind of actions even if it means that they are pretending that there are some health emergencies or some sort which i cant really be able to bare with having that kind of reasoning just to make yourself being satisfied with your leisure needs. Trying out to fool someone about emergencies on which you do beleive
that you could be able to get some funding so easily? People would really be always be wise and skeptical when it comes to this manner.

Not to make those direct conclusions about people around but we do know that giving out some support into something legit and not really just that trying to fuel up someones addiction.
Verification is needed but if you are someone who do get easily fooled by those addicts then its your choice. You should really be always skeptical when someone reaches you
randomly.

I have seen so many cases that people do for money, that this Makes me remember that things are very drastic, in a viral video, I saw that a Person got on a bus to ask for money, with a piece of paper it said that he was a thug , The very intelligent bus driver honked the horn very loudly after he got off, and the "zordo" got scared and jumped, so I don't understand this kind of thing, why do people play with something they shouldn't do? Because it is something delicate, I will never agree that they pretend to be disabled people or something like that, because at Some point things have to come to light and it is not a Good Idea , because you should not Take Advantage of the Things that Others Suffer.

In this order of ideas, things have to be given by their true Flow and Direction , it is not Advisable to start Inventing Something that is not, or Pretend to be Someone that is not, this is what happens with people who are in a position to the street, they don't Walk , But when they don't get a good Scare, they run away, it's incredible how humanity goes just to earn money without working.

This can also be seen from other points of View , as you say in the Statements that they are Philanthropists because they have many things to help ,Personally I am inclined towards that because it is a very nice feeling, but when there are people who take advantage of this Type of Events is something that I don't like , and I think that's what we all see in this topic, but I say Something, if the person wants to make money by inventing certain Things like this, I wonder: how will they do it? How will you get a good night's sleep? How can you rest knowing that you are cheating? The possibilities of doing some things well are many , so people Choose the bad ones , I don't Understand that, how a person takes the time to think about doing Something bad instead of Helping or Doing a good deed , But for Others, I believe that evil has no limits and this kind of thing should not Happen in the World.

This short story reflects the current reality we live in.

That is a terrible explanation and barely makes any sense, I wonder if there is even a grain of truth in this whole "story". It is true that people at the depths of addiction can sometimes lie and cheat even the people who are closest to them. There is a point where they face two dilemmas which are hard to hide from: 1) They have spent through all their own funds but still hold a belief that they can make any kind of profit or even get back to break even on the money spent so far 2) That they have nothing else to lose and are so deep in despair that their words mean nothing any more, they just want to block out everything because their gambling fix is the only thing in life that matters to them any more.

Even though I am not convinced too about the authenticity of this story,  these things actually do happen.  Gambling Addicts (not just limited to gambling addicts) can do anything just to satisfy their urge. I have seen a similar situation where a particular man goes round begging for money to buy food or foot one bill or the other.  We only found out that majority of the money he begs goes to smoking and gambling. Sometimes it is difficult for people to really tell when an addict is telling the truth and it makes it difficult for people to render financial help to them. The best way to help is by doing a physical inspection to be sure their pleas are genuine.

Gambling addiction is real, it destroys good plans and achievements until the victim screams for help. People really have to be careful not to gamble to the point they can nolonger resist the urge  to gamble.

Yes, gambling addicts do not know their age or educational background, anyone can be addicted to gambling and people who do not have a strong stance and good emotional control are very vulnerable to being trapped in a gambling addiction.

Honestly, I was more suspicious that the money would be misused by her husband, so he chose to give his account number, not his wife's account number. I'm not sure if his sick wife will use the money for gambling because when someone is sick usually they don't have the desire to gamble because their body is weak.

Is the man a gambler?
Maybe the  philanthropist acted on a hunch which could or could not be right.

Using money needed for a terminal illness to gamble and not caring about your wife health condition it is the worse a person can do
Sadly, I have seen people do worse. Like the case of a family who publicly solicited money the treatment of a family member who was terminally ill. When the donation was done, they used the funds and invested in a real-estate property. Why asked why they did that by the Police, they responded that the family member was going to die anyways.

If the man wants to help with his wife's medical expenses he should have given her wife's account, but it seems the man has a hidden agenda and declined to give her wife's account, the man can be considered an irresponsible husband because he declined to giver her account so the man can proceed to donate, the donor is right in not donating the money in the husband account.
The husband's motive is pretty obvious he will use the money on other things and not on his wife's medical expenses, people who are addicted to gambling only care about their addiction and not for the welfare of their family.

Well, things with this case can be seen from two perspectives and one of the things could be because he actually has his wife's bank account compromised for games, casinos, sports betting, it could be that, or also not everything can be negative, It could be possible that things are different, it could be because the husband wants to assume the expenses and not touch his wife's money, sometimes we do not see things from the other point of view, we cannot judge anyone by What we don't know, everyone manages their life, their things, we don't know what the truth is.

What many think is bad, and it is something that should not be done all the time, I know that here in the forum they can always think about the bad and they do not get rid of it, but I believe that in the world there are also people who make sacrifices so that another person feels good and better, in a terminal illness because people become sensitive and can make these gestures.

The person who was offering to help may have had a similar experience with someone else in same situation and regrets doing such upon maybe discovering it was a fluke just to gain the help. Or perhaps the man asking for help for his sick wife may have been living in a gambling prone environment where so many gambling tales has emanated from and it would have been obvious because of his adamant notion to provide his wife's account number, that he simply needed the funds to gamble some more.

Whichever way it is,  gambling has not really slowed down these days, but instead has evolved to online spaces where no other one knows and with betting also, being more of a career path to youths nowadays.

She's just trying to make sure that the funds will be used as intended. Since she was the one who offered help, she can request what she wants, and if the husband truly needs that help, he'll do everything not to disappoint those who offer assistance. Nowadays, finding people with a kind heart is rare, so she should also be treated as a special person, a gift from God.

Perhaps, from her perspective, men's reputations are linked to gambling, and she may not want to take that risk. Alternatively, the married person might not seem trustworthy to her. The person offering help will also assess the individuals they are assisting, so it's their terms to be followed, or no help at all.

In fact, we must first know the purpose of the foreigner in providing assistance, for what purpose and under what agreement.....! Free loans or social assistance, without having to pay again...that's the point.
If the aid money is in the form of a loan/debt, Of course the party helping doesn't need to detail the wife's account, whether they want to use it for gambling or not, that's up to them.
However, if the money is provided for free/social assistance, Of course, the party providing assistance must know in detail whether the money was actually used for his wife's medical needs or for other things, for example gambling.

In the case of gambling addiction, we often see many people doing things that justify any means, the goal is to get money to gamble, whereas in this case, the person giving the help does not know and does not know the husband, Of course, in this case, if you are in doubt, it would be better for the person providing the assistance to come directly to the place where the wife in question is being cared for, provide assistance directly, maybe that is better, rather than presuming.

If the man is a gambling addict, then the woman is right for not sending the money into his account, because she knows that he will use part of the money, or if not all the money to gamble, and that has killed the purpose of giving the money to the person in need, when it is not used for the right purpose. Addicted gamblers are not to be trusted with money, because they will end up using the money to gamble, thinking that they can double the money to make more profit, as this is what use to be in their thoughts.

I know this lady that was so addicted to gamble, and she was finding it difficult to control herself. To the extent that she do beg and come up with various lies whenever she wants to gamble, because addiction gas eaten her deep to her bone marrow. She came to me the first time that her son is sick, and he is in the hospital, that she needs some assistance from me, which I helped her with some money. Unknown to be that she was looking for money that she wants to use to gamble. It was later that my friend told me that she is a chronic addict, and that is how she goes about telling lies with the name of her son that is sick, so that people can sympathize with her, and give her money. This is why it is good that you make sure that when you are rendering help to someone, you make sure that the money is used for the right purpose, and we should not be deceived.

But who are those to take this up as a responsibility for the addicted ones, when the government are not in support of this, the casinos are not making any tangible efforts, individuals too are somewhat busy with their daily encounters and those ready and interested in doing that could possibly lack the financial aid to facilitate doing so, we have to maintain the orderliness of being responsible for ourselves, especially when it comes to gambling, we need to do it responsibly before it gets out of hands, the last hope is for any one found under this category to rely on his family for help.
Each person should responsible with what they do but if they already addicted to gambling, his family will take that responsibility by helping the addicted person to the rehabilitation center. The government facilitate the rehabilitation center and brought those who addicted to that place and trying to heal them. But if addicted person or his family don't take anything necessary and tend to just let it be, the addicted person can't get a right solution. If it comes to gambling, we must really take responsibility by always limit ourselves playing gambling, both money and time so we can prevent addiction comes to us. But if someone lie about something because of he needs money to playing gambling, his family must take him to the rehabilitation.

Yes, gambling knows no boundaries, we might be sitting in our room with the laptop or desktop and browsing the forum. But on the other side of the globe, there could be someone who's falling for gambling and becoming addicted to it. So it's really very hard for everyone now, unless you are not introduce to gambling, but for those who have been playing almost all their lives, very hard to quit and there could be bout of we have recovered and then fall to gambling back again and then the cycle continues. Unless we really have that bad experience that we promised not just ourselves but our family as well that we are going to quit for good. And we can only hope that our children will not gamble and not repeat the same mistakes that we did when we are young.

Maybe it happened on your story he might use the money to gamble. But I do believe we can fix the gambling addiction

I have experience with people who are addicts in gambling and they do make excuses to something to borrow money in order to fuel their gambling stuff. A coworker of mine asked me if I have extra cash that I'm not using, asked that it's for his daughter because she was in the hospital. Upon closely noticing his facial expressions, it seems that he isn't bothered at all and that's when I felt like he is probably gonna use it for gambling. I'm just really worried about his addiction.

You know, those situations and the fact people is willing to lie so blatantly about their family health is one of the things which have made me wary about both gambling addiction and lending money to people I have known, before introducing myself to the world of gambling, I would have easily been deceived by those stories and lies from people who have a serious problem with their gambling habits, but not anymore.
At the very least, you are aware of that person addiction, hopefully he can get out of it and continue to hold his position at his job.

I have been told here in my country, people who try to lie to others for money usually just go saying they lost a family member and they do not even have cash to pay for the funeral services or not have money to go visit their family in their old town. Whatever... It is just one of the saddest and things which one can opt to do as a addicted person.

This short story reflects the current reality we live in.
If the person asking for help is clearly a person who is addicted to gambling, of course the person providing the help will become suspicious if the account number provided is not in the name of his wife, and the donor must be aware because he could be cheated and use the excuse of his wife who is sick to be able to get funds for gambling even though it looks very evil but usually addicts will not consider their actions evil other than thinking how to get money for gambling.
It would be better if the aid funds are directly given to the accounts of people who really need it and this step is much more appropriate, even when we make donations to foundations or people we trust sometimes it can be misused even though it is not for gambling but for other things that are profitable and not accepted by the people who need the help.
Gambling addiction stalks anyone involved in gambling, therefore all gamblers should be aware of this, even casinos warn of this because it is real.

There's nothing new to this; the effect of gambling on people can be severe, and a gambler who is in deep addiction can do severe and unimaginable things, such as steal or, at worst, commit a crime, because of the urge to gamble more. The thing is, even a good person can commit a grave sin just because of an addiction, and it's been proven in numerous studies that humans tend to do bad things or go beyond their character just because they can't control themselves. I also know that because, as a gambler, I've committed some mistakes and sins because of gambling, like stealing money or tricking other people in order to have funds to gamble, but before it is too late, I control myself and wake up from my addiction. So before it's too late, those gamblers should be able to control themselves before turning back, because if you miss the chances of turning back, then you prefer to suffer the consequences.

Gambling addiction has been a common problem in our society. It has caused many problems in a person's life, such as money losses, or issues with family and friends, etc. It's important to support and help people with gambling addiction to overcome it. We should all always be open and not afraid to ask help or give help they need and live better lives.

I'm just really worried about his addiction.

he stranger offering aid had no prior acquaintance with the husband. Why then was there apprehension that the funds might fuel gambling rather than support the wife's medical needs?

This short story reflects the current reality we live in.
There are many addicted gamblers and it is very possible that this very charitable individual who was willing to give out money for medical support has come across a few addicted gamblers in the past who he had tried to help and they diverted the money into gambling or they even lied about their situation just to get financial aid. I even commend the giver because the experience he has had in the past did not stop him from trying to give but has helped him to have principles and be wiser while giving.
Addiction to gambling is becoming very common in our environment, because there are now more options to gamble and more people gambling. When you deal with a person who you know is addicted to gambling, you have to be careful with them in things concerning money, because they can lie or scam just to get money for gambling.

Gambling addiction is hard to fight but it's sad to think of men who prioritize gambling over treatment for their wives. Of course the gambler must keep his control or else he will face huge losses financially. His main duty was to fulfill his wife's duties. It is hard to believe that these people do not care about their families when they are addicted to gambling. Thinking about financial loss can help the person get rid of this problem.

this story underscores the need for greater awareness and support for individuals struggling with gambling addiction. Gambling addiction is real bro because it also happens to me. I'm struggling tho now I always set a budget but when I hit total loss it feel bad and mood swing etc.

Maybe it happened on your story he might use the money to gamble. But I do believe we can fix the gambling addiction

This would be something that is actually quite shame because gambling addict asks for help money for his wife but he has another goal by using the money as gambling capital.
However, it is not clear whether it will actually be used for gambling when the money has entered his account because there was no other conversation and you said that everything ended with no further response.
If I were personally asked to provide assistance like that from gambling addict, there would clearly be sense of skepticism because he could blame the money given, here it can clearly be concluded that gambling addict can use various ways to make money.
They have completely lost their consciousness by their own ambition and attitude towards gambling, I sure that people like this will always do the same thing in the future before realizing that it was all mistake.

If he is gambler or worse really is addicted then obviously there will always be concerns, I personally would also have the same attitude and do the same thing.
If it is for medical needs, it is better to visit him in person to ascertain his condition and hand over some money to the person concerned.
No one will ever be able to accept if their good intentions are used inappropriately or misused.

It is normal for someone providing aid to be skeptical because it is very strange, yes, even though they are still in the same family. Why does it have to be his own account instead of giving his wife's account because it is his wife who is sick. If the wife is really sick and cannot do anything and the husband must carry out all his duties it is also necessary to inform the wife and the wife must know how much assistance is to support the hospital costs because after all, sometimes there are people who take advantage of this momentum and they can take most of the assistance for their wife and use it to have fun.

Even though it is her husband, sometimes we don't know what's in his mind because it's usually evil thoughts arise when they are pressing. We really shouldn't just trust people, even if they are friends or family, because there are also people who stab in the back and most of them are people closest to us. Therefore we have to be careful when Having to entrust financial matters to anyone especially if her husband is a gambler, definitely cannot be trusted.

As I read through the OP, the saying that comes to mind is, "once beaten twice shy" which means that we taken caution about another experience from a pleasant experience that we may have had. The lady who wanted to render the assistance in the story is likely to have had an unpleasant experience with a person battling gambling addiction in the past. I fault her for her generalization but I can't blame her.

I can't jump into the conclusion to assume that the man who refusing to send his wife's account details and not continuing the conversation is a sign of gambling addiction. I think that they man could have been offended by the benefactor's requestion. Still, since he needed the help for his wife and is likely to have access to his wife account, he should have for the sake of his wife's health sent the money.

Gambling addicts will do all they can get money to gamble when they are out of funds and they cannot be trusted with money. But because the story is incomplete we cannot tell if this is a case of gambling addiction or not.

Okay that suspicion was rather odd. I honestly wouldn't consider it as something that faults gamblers (or addicts more specifically), probably just a really bad experience by the husband when loaning money to others. While I do think giving out a loan to someone can be bad, at least that's what I think so since I avidly try to avoid giving out loans, there's no particular reason to be THAT specific for a reason unless there's some context behind it, so yea, I believe the husband had some problems, particularly him or someone close to him related to gambling and loans.

As for gambling being more prevalent to males, well, it is a fact that the majority of the gamblers out there are males so it isn't really that odd for addicts to be males.

The prevalence is not surprising to me being among males, there are high number of male gamblers  than the females. For in a gathering of 10 gamblers you may rarely see a single female gambler in that circle that's just a simple example to the extend the males populate the total figure, which is expected that the high rate of addiction should come from the gender with the highest number that gambles.

Instead of providing his wife's account details as requested, he offered his own. Concerned that the funds might be misused, particularly for gambling, the person offering assistance insisted on the wife's account details. However, the conversation ended there, with no further response from the man.

In this case I sense the stranger who offers to give a financial assistance to their plight must have got an information about the man's gambling behaviour before now and that is what's making her taking precautionary measures by ensuring the money goes directly into the man's wife account than to his as he could be tempted to divert that money into gambling to satisfy his uncontrollable gambling urge.

This story from the op brings to light how evil addiction to anything in general can be and for those of us who are still in control we should strive with all conscientiousness never to fall victim of addiction of any kind. I have heard and seen gamblers who are famished but prefers to use the only money at their disposal to stake a game order that using it to get something to eat to quench their hunger. It's no joke, gambling addiction is real.

the person who offers will of course be worried if the funds given are not used properly, surely the person giving the aid has heard about the husband, that's why he's worried, and it's a very annoying thing if the aid is not used for the proper purpose, p. This is what is known to be very bad for gambling addicts, no one believes it

The helper's reaction might be due to experience. Maybe she has had a case where money given offered for a particular purpose was used for gambling. I also think that she did the right thing because it would be better to give the money to the sick person than any other person. After all, the sufferer will maximize the money.

Just like other forms of addiction like drugs, alcohol, sex, and others, gambling addiction could lead to loss of funds that would have been used for other important purposes. I know a man whose wife receives his salary from his workplace because of his alcohol addiction. His employer decided to give his wife because he would waste all the money before he got home after receiving his pay. We live in a society where unfavorable economic conditions are forcing people to engage in unhealthy practices which include uncontrollable gambling habits.

It is also believed that women are more prudent with funds and will unlikely engage in gambling activities. The majority of gamblers in my area are male, which means it will be ideal to give funds to women if you don't want them to be used for gaming.

And I think women are more conscious of showing their obedience to the man who offers help. Disappointing someone like this philanthropist will add to the damage to humanity especially if he learns that the money that is supposedly for the hospitalization is gone due to gambling. He will never give anyone who is asking for help thinking it is a scam.

He knows the gambler didn't prioritize his wife. It wouldn't come to such a situation where she got this terminal illness if the gambler prioritized his wife.

this is the reason why as a woman it is very important to choose the best partner, and I admit that I am lucky to have found one. imagine how much time the wife spends accompanying the man who just got married, then he really is a jerk if he only cares about gambling rather than his wife who is sick.
A man who is a heavy gambling addict will mostly damage their social life, especially their relationship with their partner, so it is not surprising that many heavy gambling addicts become homeless (their families think they are no longer useful and only add to the family's burden)

I think the foreigner who offers help already knows her husband's history, if indeed the person giving the help doesn't know the husband, there is no reason to doubt him, except in different situations such as the help giver not being sure about the husband for suspicious reasons as it seems drug users or others, but from the story above, those who provide assistance must already know the husband's history

Truth be told gambling is like a household name. You hardly find someone who is not into gambling and that is why in today`s reality it is only surprising when you see a person who doesn’t participate in gambling. However, some people are psychologists and so they reason meaning into every action. The fact that the man refused to send his wife`s account to the man might have sent the wrong signal that the man has an ulterior motive. Gambling easily crossed his mind because it is so common in this generation. One of the primary reasons why gambling is so common is the widespread availability and accessibility of gambling opportunities. With the rise of online gambling platforms, casinos, sports betting, and lotteries, individuals can easily engage in various forms of gambling without having to travel far or visit physical locations. The convenience of being able to gamble from the comfort of their home or even on the go through mobile devices has significantly contributed to the prevalence of gambling.

In many cases, the social aspect of gambling, such as participating in poker nights or visiting casinos with friends, has further reinforced addictive patterns as individuals seek acceptance and validation within their social circles. Through targeted campaigns that promote the glamour, excitement, and potential winnings associated with gambling, companies attract vulnerable individuals who may be more susceptible to developing addictive behaviours. The normalization of gambling in popular culture further perpetuates the idea that it is a harmless form of entertainment rather than a potentially harmful habit.

Gambling addiction has become a threat indeed to lose hope and trust to one person. If he is into gambling, then most likely the possibility to lie for the sake of his own satisfaction is very high. This serves a lesson that no gambler can be trusted when it comes to money. And even if you’re not into gambling anymore, but you have gambling story, still your words will always create doubt and hesitation from the other person.
It has become common knowledge that gambling addiction can deeply impact an individual's trustworthiness and integrity, particularly when it comes to financial matters. The compulsive need to gamble can drive individuals to lie, manipulate, or deceive in order to satisfy their addiction or cover up losses. This can erode trust not only in their relationships but also in their reputation and credibility. Even after overcoming a gambling addiction, the stigma and doubt associated with past behavior can linger. Others may remain wary or hesitant to fully trust someone with a history of gambling problems, regardless of whether they have since recovered.

Gambling addiction can indeed strain relationships and damage trust, but recovery is possible with the right support and resources. For those had struggled with gambling addiction, fostering open communication and transparency about past experiences can help address any lingering doubts or concerns others may have. Addicted individuals need empathy and support as they work towards recovery and rebuilding their lives.

If there are concerns about the misuse of funds given to his wife to fund gambling, I think the person who wants to help must already know how a husband who is an addict behaves.
The problem with addicts is quite complicated. because I also know a gambling addict who was given money by his parents to pay the electricity bill but used the money to play slots. this is real and I heard these stories from addicts and their parents.
The cases of a gambling addict are many and varied. So it's natural for anyone to lose trust in gamblers when dealing with money.
A normal day with addiction. Problem is that in such state of mind, an individual is not being rational and reasonable with decision making. People who are diagnosed with addiction prioritizes the pleasure they are getting from the things they are hooked up with. Obsession and compulsion at the same time which gives pleasure on themselves. They will have tendencies of fooling other people just to get what they want, which is indeed sad of them. Some are indeed willing to make up stories involving people around them regardless if they are important or not, just to fulfill their intentions. But this is not to make judgements instantly, unless proven. If it is the benefit of the doubt for that individual, what if he's not in good state of mind because he is so problematic of what happened to his wife? Possible right? In the given situation, he indeed lacked explanation of his action of just walking away. But let us always not be one sided in every story unless we knew both sides of it.

When the addiction posses someone, he can do anything to have money, including lying. He only tells that he needs money for his wife. He will tells about how bad his wife conditions. If that person knows about that man and his wife, perhaps he will gives the money with the hope they can solved their problems. But if he is addicted to gambling, he will not uses that money for his wife medicals needs but will used it for playing gambling.

But if that person is a stranger that doesn't know that man or his wife, he suppose not gives the money because they don't know each others. He will search the information about that man and his wife just want to make sure he is not lying to him or he will not help that man and just walk away from him. Addicted to gambling is difficult to be trusted but if someone willing to help him, he needs to keep an eye on addicted person at all times so he can knows what he is doing and not abused the help given to him.

Addiction to anything, will give you desperate moves such as in this story. This is why this is like old news and the person who want to help is right to ask the wife's account details rather than from the man. Because if the story is really true, the man won't hesitate to provide his wife's account details so she can receive all the help from other people. But instead, no more response from the man stating that his wife is in bad condition. Which goes to show that the condition he stated was just something he falsely made just to get money from strangers to supply his vice.

Anyone can create a fake story in order to scam other people, so you shouldn't trust someone else's mouth even they they act like a pitiful person because he want to try to get your sympathy. You need to have a black heart, don't let your emotion lead to their story because they will able to control you.

However even you send the money to his wife's accounts, there's a chance if he will gamble away the money by forcing his wife to give her bank accounts.

This is why if you really want to give significant amount of money, much better if you can visit to the hospital and see for yourself about the actual condition and maybe, send the funds to the account of the patient himself. We can't trust people these days, because scammers wear all kinds of masks just to siphon money from their potential victim.

Who knows, she might be familiar with such tactics gamblers used in begging money from her and it could be that another person has made her not to trust people again that beg money especially people that beg for money with a pity situation. I think the woman has the right to send the money through any means, let's even say that the man really need the money to take care of his wife, what's the big deal in sending money to the wife accounts, need moments aren't meant for solution.

This addictions tactics to get money from people will a lot of chances for people that need help, if these pattern continues, a time will come when ordinary people will need help from a fellow women, perhaps money to eat but they will assume they are fellow gamblers who need money to gamble even though they provide their wife account for money to be sent.

That is a challenging situation when someone is battling gambling addiction, as it can lead to desperate measures like lying and manipulation to fuel the addiction. When gamblers resort to fabricating stories about needing money for their spouse's medical needs, it needs to approach the situation with caution and skepticism.

it's advisable to gather more information about the situation and potentially offer support in non-monetary ways, such as directing them to appropriate resources for addiction treatment or counseling. In any case, maintaining boundaries and being vigilant about how any assistance is used is crucial when dealing with someone struggling with gambling addiction. While offering support and understanding is important, it's equally essential to protect oneself from being taken advantage of or enabling destructive behaviors.

Here in my country I have seen many families being destroyed because of alcohol addiction, even the women here in my country who are addicted to alcohol manage to leave their children without eating because they need that money allocated for food and take them to go and drink beer until next day and when they return home, their husbands are also arriving, the husband and wife ate outside the house, they drank a lot of beer outside the house and the poor children were starving inside the house and often in these families the children they become thieves because they need money to eat, children as young as 8 or 10 years old are on the streets asking for money to eat because their parents abandon them and are going to consume alcohol and the government does nothing, this is because the beer factories do not are guilty

people have the brains to think, they are of legal age, that's why the government ignores this serious problem, here in my neighborhood every day until the next day people are consuming alcohol, I'm shocked, because it's something I can't understand How can a person spend 10 or 15 hours drinking alcohol and abandon their children without food at home, no matter how much I spent hours thinking about it, I couldn't find a solution to this serious problem, without removing large amounts of alcohol that circulate in my country. After observing for a while I began to understand that alcohol addiction was a much bigger problem in relation to drug addiction.

This is because in the case of drug addiction, those who consume a lot are the young people in my country, young people who mostly don't have wives or children, so they destroy themselves, of course this causes pain for the family, but it's not the same damage as alcohol addiction causes. Looking at gambling addiction, the situation is very similar to alcohol addiction, but the number of people addicted to gambling is small compared to the number of people addicted to alcohol and drugs. As governments intervene in gambling, the situation is under control, but the same cannot be said about alcohol addiction.

Well, I am honestly trying to understand something here, in other not to write a comment that might be considered out of point and as well as a spam.
I know you already said that the stranger offering help has never had any prior encounter with the man he is trying to help, how then is he suspecting that the man would use the money for gambling when he has never meet this man before?
And let's even assume that the man being offered help was a gambler, how does the one offering help think that the man won't still use the supposed funds for gambling if he wanted to, as it's certain that most husbands and wives usually have access to each others accounts and can withdraw from it at will and at anytime?

This honestly does not make any sense to me, and one thing I can say here is that, like it's commonly said that, a thief usually knows a thief when he or she sees one, or mostly thinks that every other person out there is a thief like he or she is, that man (the man that offered help to the man whose wife is sick) is possibly a gambler himself, and maybe an addicted one, and his mindset is possibly that, the man he wants to help is also like him (a gambler), and that he may misuse the funds for his wife's treatment, just the same way he himself misuses funds due to his own gambling habit.

This is what I legitly see here, or can assume.

Wait, how was it redirected to gambling? Indeed it is suspiscious of the husband to not offer his wife's account given that it's her who needs the help but to give benefit of the doubt, he might have no access of it however he should have explained himself than to just leave jist because his preference was not chosen. On the other hand, it may indeed be used to unwanted acitvities or things or it is just a make up story. Asking for proof on the giver's end would be valid in this case. It is a bit off also that the husband didn't say a single word rather than to please the person who was about to help, if he's being serious.

But going back, isn't it judgement that  the guy was thought of using the money on gambling? I hope the story is  more detailed 'coz it is really confusing. Possibility of bad intention is indeed there but why would it be assumed to be related in gambling, in an instant? If nothing will be ellaborated, this will just be one of the stereotypes of how bad gamblers are with handling money.

I think the person offering help probably got wary because the husband wanted to use his own account for his wife's medical funds. There's a concern that the money might end up being spent on gambling instead of the intended medical support. This situation shows how gambling issues can make people doubt even well-intentioned gesture and it just shows the real-life impact of this problem
Most likely, the one who wanted to give medical assistance knows also the man asking for help. Because one will not jump into a conclusion without knowing the other person. He must be addicted into gambling or just fond of gambling, so the doubt arise if he will really give the money to his wife or will use it to fund his gambling addiction. And I think that’s reasonable enough, just to make sure if this man is actually telling the truth or just using the illness of his wife to fulfill his personal interest.

Gambling addiction is a real issue and sadly while many governments profit from gambling (even from unlicensed or illegal one), they do nothing to provide their citizens with amenities they need for quitting addiction.

Honestly, any program against addiction in the world could use more funding in this moment. People are faced with very dire situations and if the programs to help those in need are underfunded, outreach is less likely to help those most in need, and also the programs have less tools and staff in their disposal due to funding being lacking. In my country alone a large percentage of the country's GDP was wagered in online casinos, and that's only the licensed ones. Households are being destroyed as we speak, but the government at the same time is cutting funding to centers that provide free counseling for addiction.

My concern is that this will just keep getting worse. Something needs to be done about it. Not only do we need to support our public health systems and infrastructure, which at the end of the day are funded with our own money, we also need to pressure our governments to take action.

Gambling addiction is serious, and this?? This is a firsthand look at the abyss that consumes addicts and their families. Are age, marriage, ethnicity, or faith relevant? Not them. This behavior is all-consuming and often targets men.

The man favoring his medical account above his wife's raises concerns. Why? Blinding addiction alters priorities. Losing yourself and your principles is more than losing money. Prudence, not paranoia, is when someone hesitates to direct cash to treatment. Addiction erodes trust. We're discussing trust, accountability, and gambling's gut-wrenching effects, not simply addiction. This is a societal failure, not simply some individual struggle. This must be faced with open eyes and tenacity.

Why then was there apprehension that the funds might fuel gambling rather than support the wife's medical needs?
Because gambling addicted individuals are well known for not fulfilling with their personal responsabilities and duties. It's common sense addicted gamblers have been using funds which were supposed to be used for daily expenses, basic needs to fuel their gambling habits along the time. People have seen and heard stories like this along their lives, so it's normal they are very suspicious of every addicted gamblers on their way, especially when having to donate or lend money to them.

In fact, it shouldn't be hard for the man to share his wife's personal details with the donator in order to receive funds for her health treatment. The question is, why did he give up on the donation once he concluded he couldn't receive the funds on his personal account? In my opinion it sounds shady enough, and only corroborate the donator took the right approach by asking for the woman account's details, instead of giving the money on the hands of the man.

People lending would want to be sure they get their money back with ease and people donating would want their money be used for good cause.
Most of the people seeking for private lending or aid are those who have very few options and it's seen that these group of people spend their money mostly on addiction like drugs, alcohol, prostitution or gambling. It may sound harsh but most of the beggers are lazy people that are deep into an addiction.
There's so much negative perspective towards seeking for money (begging) that even the people really suffering are called bad words.

i don't see that your story is related to gambling addiction, but nowadays, don't trust people too easily because we don't know whether the person is honest or not. especially nowadays, people often "sell" compassion to get money from other people, but the fact is that they use the money for their own pleasure. it's quite sad to see this, but that's what often happens in today's society.

he stranger offering aid had no prior acquaintance with the husband. Why then was there apprehension that the funds might fuel gambling rather than support the wife's medical needs?

This short story reflects the current reality we live in.

I believe the lender has experienced that sort of thing before, because there`s no way that he would think the money would be used for gambling rather than the intended usage, which was medical care. There are other ways the money could have been misused, e.g., through drugs and so on, but yet he linked it to gambling. I think the lender is also involved in gambling for this to have happened.

I have been asked for help before; some I accepted and others I turned down, and not a single one has. I think the person might use it to gamble and lose.

Could it be that he knows the husband looking for his wife's aid?
I mean, people who like to offer help don't react like that in an instant just because they think the man is a gambler. Maybe at some part, they knew each other or bumped in a place where the man who offered help saw him gambling.

I also know people who asked for help from their wives but I mostly send the money directly to the wife not because I know their husbands but because their wives are not strangers to me too. Most of my friends, I met their wives at some point so it's not difficult for me to talk to them.
But if it's for a stranger like in the story, I might do the same as the helper did. It's the safest route and not because I don't trust the man, I don't know them both so I'd rather send it directly to the lady who needs help.
It's true that the number of gamblers in this era is growing and trust issues will be a problem in cases like this. So I guess we should just send the help to reputable charities that offer help with this kind of problem.

Chosen gambling over your wife's health is practically being stupid. That is not an addiction that's foolishness. Even an addicted gambler won't do that in that situation. It just pained me how people are showing how crazy and foolish they can be in reality. They make bad decisions and hinder the happiness and life others then later blame it all on addiction. Am more concerned because people take the word addiction using it as an excuse to do bad stuff. Imagine someone open a random fire in the street killing individuals then later he would say he was an addict in alcohol or drugs.

Mehn these persons are psychopath and they should be taken to where people with that disabilities are. Or however be eliminated from the society. I dont think it should be tolerated anymore.

it is possible actually. the addict's judgment is already clouded. we've all heard of the story of a drug addict whose willing to sell their grandma's coochie so they could snort again. this addiction is not so different from the gambling addict.

anyone who would offer financial assistance will also think the funds should go as intended. the stranger knows the money might just be used for gambling.  an addict would do terrible things for his addiction.

There is an appearance that you will see and immediately your instinct will tell you that person is lacking money, so sometimes those who are addict gamblers look unkept and street like even in terms of manner of approach.

Therefore even if that helper didn't know the man already, the man might have shown himself in those manners that speak of him as someone who is in need of money and believe me, it is an instinct thing that if you have discerning mind or spirit you can tell if a man needs money. No body wants to give money to someone that won't make use of it and moreover, hardly would a man give his money to another man  Grin

Consequently, the helper wasn't comfortable with the approach of the husband and so he wanted to be sure the wife knew he redeemed the money to her. It is only a careless person that won't care if money that was meant for a sick person won't be used for that purpose, so it is normal to want to be sure the money went to the right person. I think the husband's appearance, approach and other behaviour as peculiar to gambling addicts called him out. Probably, he is unkept and also on drugs.

....

Gambling is synonymous with men, so it is natural for donors to worry that the funds given to their husbands will be used up on gambling. Meanwhile, his position and situation are very precarious, where his wife really needs these funds to pay hospital bills and pay for medicine. The donor only wants to ensure that what they give is actually used properly. But I think if he was really worried about the amount of money he was given, why didn't he pay it directly to the hospital? So that there will be no suspicion between each other, however, later when the funds are sent to the wife's account, the husband will still be the one who will take the money, either through a bank or local ATM because the wife's condition is very serious and she can only lie in bed. , so how could the wife take the money. And even if you use M-banking, your husband will still carry out the transaction.

"Men's involvement in the world of gambling is very large, and many of them are addicted to gambling, so this can give rise to a bad perception of men."

I think the person offering help probably got wary because the husband wanted to use his own account for his wife's medical funds. The man did the right thing. I guess the man knows the husband. The husband can be someone that do misuse money, especially if he is a gambler. That may not be the complete amount of money needed and he can think the man can think of doubling the money and gamble with it. It would be unfortunate if he gamble with his wife life. It is better the man pay the wife account the money so that the money can be used appropriately.

Using money needed for a terminal illness to gamble and not caring about your wife health condition it is the worse a person can do and apparently the person in charge of registering money assumed that the man insisting on giving his details instead of his wife may be an avid gambler and that was a risky move.I applaud such gesture in our time.

You can actually tell the kind of person that you are dealing with when you send them money as you trying to help them and in the end they use the money for something else entirely those kind of people cannot be trusted,  there was a similar story like this that is currently happening around my home right now I have a family member that is living with me and he always ask me for help but sometimes I don't feel like helping him because I knew is going to go back and use the money for gambling I believe that he knew that I may not help him that is why he lied as if he is trying to use the money for something else entirely.

There is nothing you can tell me about gamblers that I don't know and when someone is addicted to gambling there is no way they can be trusted, they are already used to lying a lot, a addicted gambler are not very used to saying the truth so if you know that someone is into gambling and they come seeking for your help just know that they are not telling you, if they come looking for help, just tell them to move on or help them knowing that they are heading for a casino.

This type of habit is why some people are refusing to help addicted people especially if they are addicted to alcohol or drugs or even gambling, h such people cannot be trusted and you are just wasting your money trying to help such people this is also why many people believe that gamblers are not serious type of people and I can't blame them, they have all the right to say such things about gamblers because addiction is scary.

Always Act Smart and Play Safe With Your Funds
It is very common between men who are suffering for gambling addiction and most times will be hard to control because they always thinks of doubling any money that comes into their hands without thinking to settle the main issues the money was sent for before thinking on how to utilize the money. The thing is when money gets into gamblers hand for something very serious, what they will think is for the multiplication of that money is then they would start thinking about sure odds and correct scores to me it's sucking to see these categories of men who doesn't care about their family's health and wellbeing instead they think of how to satisfy their gambling desire by endangering the health of their wife at the hospital.

This short story reflects the current reality we live in.

Probably the person that will give a financial assistance have an idea that husband has a gambling problem history. It’s possible since you will only ask a loan to a person that you knew personally that’s why the lender has an idea that he has a tendency to gamble the funds.

There’s also a chance that their country or location is saturated by gambling activity that’s why men is always branded as a gambler especially if money is involved. I have a neighborhood like this during my childhood which almost grownup men is doing gambling. People casually branding all men is involved on gambling whenever they are borrowing money to other people.

Is the man a gambler? I think this is not about gambling if we so not know if the man is a gambler or not. You know how people can think, in a selfish way. I also always prefer to send money to the person that is in need of money, but if someone ask for help because of his wife, I think I can give it to that person that ask for help. But if the person is a gambling addict, I will prefer to send the money to his wife account. Some people prefer to send the money to the victim account just because he want the victim to know the actual amount that he sent because her husband can tell her a wrong amount. So it is a good idea.

It's annoying when you see people coming to you for help and you're willing to help then to later discovered that they are not using the money given on what they supposed, instead they diversify the fund into something else, this could make some never to think about helping others again because they will always reference that occasion each time they encounter someone in need of help and they recall their last experience in giving, otherwise, in contrary to this, some will then prefer to make the payment of what they needed the money for by themselves and the rest assured their money was not used for other things, we cannot just trust others when it comes to matters involving money.
