Life is a taxable event
I gave a presentation about bitcoin in front of my class (30 people) back in 2013.

By the way, I mined bitcoin but spent most of it. So I have very little left. I practically live paycheck to paycheck. I still have some crypto but not that much.

Speaking of this great Bitcoin Speaker and also an author of some books about Bitcoin or cryptocurrency, he is really awesome!
His hard work has really paid off and worth it, especially if you compare his previous conference in recent years or months, already a lot of people joining, I observed it because I used to watch most of his videos in his youtube channel, which he recording his speaks on some conference and uploading it to his youtube channel.

Leave no FUD unchallenged

Certainly seems to be a larger crowd by the time the Q & A segment kicks off at the end.  Definitely more than just 5 people there.  I think the photo in the OP is possibly a little misrepresentative.

Am pretty sure I read that that was a practice run or sound check type thing. He would've had that sort of turnout in 2010/11, not 2013.

I remember seeing a photo posted of Coinbase at a crypto conference in 2013. Brian Coinbase was there with one trestle table and a few badges and shit. These days he'd descend from the ceiling with a rocket belt.

Perhaps some of them ended as millionaires; some ended selling it earlier than most people and some forgot that they had bitcoins up until recently. There's really knowing how these people ended up with bitcoins but it was a nice thought that even if the audience isn't as many as what people might expect in a conference, Antonopoulos still continued the talk and shared what knowledge he has to these 5 lucky people. Until now, he shares the same passion with bitcoin and cryptography in general as if nothing changed within the past few years he's in the project.

Just 5 people in attendance, bitcoin is still in its infancy that time, but makes me wonder how those 5 are doing today? probably millionaires, or some sort of whales by today.  Smiley

Perhaps, or maybe they all ended up like this guy:

I got into Bitcoin in 2013 myself. I regrettably did not manage to hold onto most of my bitcoins from those days. Almost everyone from earlier years has a story like that -- spending, gambling, trading, or otherwise losing much of their bitcoin stash -- so don't feel too bad. Wink
I wasn't into Bitcoin back then, but my parents admitted that a friend of theirs told them that it's time to buy some BTC back in 2013. He himself, however, gained and lost BTC on multiple occasions throughout the years, and even though he knew and did something with Bitcoin, in the end, he did not profit from that and probably even lost some money. He was mining years ago, for instance, but then sold his multiple BTC at a low point which did not even cover all of the mining expenses... As for my parents, they did not listen to him back then, and after that, it always seemed like Bitcoin was too expensive to buy, I guess.

And just to add-- who freakin knew that bitcoin would rise up that high that fast anyway. Heck, I got in on 2016 and was in utter shock how bitcoin just rose and rose and rose to the peak of around $19800. It's really easy to have regrets just because bitcoin rose. But what if it didn't? Hindsight is 20-20.

Possible! I still think about the condition of Mr. Laszlo Hanyecz who actually spent 10k bitcoins for two pizzas! He would have become a multi-millionaire by today but missed the boat unfortunately.

I am sure there are thousands of people with the same story. I myself sold off few bitcoins at 450 USD each. I could have paid off my mortgage if I had kept those bitcoins until 2017. We are all destined, so there's no point of regretting!

Same story here. Spent my BTC under $200.. but I've learned from my mistakes. Bitcoin isn't something to play with for short terms if you don't want to regret selling it.

The thing is, Bitcoin has always increased in price from year to year. So even if the guy you quoted would've sold today, in 10 years he would've still regretted it. The day when you'll want to spend your BTC will still come, but hey.. he sold on profit. That's the only thing that matters.

I've joined in 2013 too and made some considerable mistakes out there. I'm not a millionaire by now, although I've had a lot of BTC on my hands.

Hard to know where are those five guys that attended Andreas conference back in 2013, we even don't have their names I assumed.

Maybe they've gone to become self made millionaires, sold at peaked in 2017 and living a good life now. But majority that time don't have a clue as to what bitcoin will became in the next 4 years (all-time-high at almost $20k a pop). So we do hope that those attendees didn't waste their time back time and continue to invest and made a lot of gains.
