the new Android Wallet from Mycelium will support this feature.

interesting that you bring up omitting a few characters. this is currently not built in but may be worth looking at.

Importing private keys by QR would be a great feature!
I would suggest, however, to allow privkey string editing after scanning. Whenever I print paper wallets as QR, I like to omit a few characters at random positions. One never knows where the print queue (backup) ends up...It is certainly not secure enough for large sums but may be sufficient to deter curious sys admins.

I'm talking about scanning. It's nicer than manually typing in the WIF key.

Paper wallets are my use for it. See, for example, http://bitaddress.org. I suppose if one ever wanted to share an address with someone else, this would be a convenient way of doing it, but all I want is the import feature.

Currently I scan the QR code with Google Goggles, then copy it into a client.

Are you talking about scanning QR codes, or a program that produces QR codes?  Armory could easily produce a QR code of the private key, though I'm very much against sharing private keys with anyone.  It adds an order-of-magnitude extra complexity to the application if some private keys are epic-fail if not protected, and others are already/intended to be shared.

Either way, Armory has a window for looking at the private key of the address.  It wouldn't be too hard to add a QR code to that window.  (to use at your own risk).

I was planning to support this in Bitcoin Wallet eventually.
Please announce it here when you do. I am waiting eagerly.

I'm looking for one. Blockchain doesn't, AFAIK

Can you define the usecase? I was planning to support this in Bitcoin Wallet eventually.
