No point in waiting for the official wallet and as a matter of fact its a shame that litecoin has no official android wallet till date ,you can head to playstore for unofficial wallets and there are some multi wallets that support litecoin as well like coinomi and enjin wallet and many more ,please make sure you get well known wallet because of fake apps on play store

If you really want to have LTC in your wallet why do not you download some multi wallet like Coinomi. Do not worry Coinomi is an old trusted multi wallet which supports around 100 cryptocurrencies?

If you want to keep holding a LTC only, then there are a lot of options in play store. But if you waiting for official LTC wallet which operates by Litecoin community, I never heard of it.

Mobile wallet that allows you to send, receive, and store Litecoin, so there's no need to look further than Edge. Available on Android and iPhone mobile devices, this wallet is free to download. Created in February 2018, this wallet also supports a variety of other digital currencies, as well as the ERC-20 token.

One of the main advantages of Edge is that the wallet is very easy to use. All account features are clearly labeled, making the user experience smoother.

When it comes to security, your private key is stored locally on your mobile device, which means that the Edge team doesn't have access to your account. In addition, your user name and credential password are also kept away from the Edge server. The extraordinary security feature offered by the wallet is 2FA, which means you have to enter the code sent to your cellphone every time you run a certain account feature.

That's right. You don't have everything you took for granted on the btc side, they are being built, albeit slowly....

Is there an API for lightweight clients similar to the BCCAPI for bitcoin? Downloading the entire chain to my device would be a bummer, right?
