BTCTrip: We are all Satoshi Nakamoto

Dear Bitcoiners,
My name is Martin Fernandez, I am BTCTrip’s CEO, the first travel portal for the Bitcoin community.

Satoshi Nakamoto has been the most important inspiration for me to step inside the Bitcoin world. I never thought about it in speculative terms, but in terms of freedom and a new social paradigm.

I read today that several communication media bother a very modest person called Dorian Nakamoto. He has denied being Satoshi, but media keeps disturbing him.

Here, at BTCTrip, we are planning to offer him and his six children a trip to Buenos Aires, and from there to the Argentinian Patagonia. One of the most beautiful places in the world.

If any of you contact Dorian, please let him know about BTCTrip’s invitation.

I was delighted to read today that Andreas Antonopoulos is fundraising money for Dorian ( http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1ztjmg/andreas_im_fundraising_for_dorian_nakamoto/ ). I met Andreas in Buenos Aires, what an incredible person!

CheapAir has made a similar invitation, wich is great. The only inaccurate statement (once again) was to declare "CheapAir.com, the first travel site to accept Bitcoin". This is not true. BTCTrip is the first Bitcoin Comunnity’s travel portal (and we only accept bitcoins).

If you want to support us across social networks, we will appreciate your comments in favor to BTCTrip. Ours is a much smaller business and has a much smaller Marketing budget than a megasite.

We grow day by day thanks to the Bitcoin Community.

From here on, this message is for Satoshi Nakamoto, wherever you are:

We thank you for this gift called "Bitcoin"

All information should be free.

ALL THE BEST, BTCTRIP

Just wanted to let you guys know about my experience.

I just booked a flight from Germany to Spain. After comparing various discount offers, where it took me a few minutes every time to click "no I don't want this and that insurance" every time surcharges for credit card payments and sometimes taxes were added increasing the price a lot.
In the end I could have booked the same flight from another provider with a complicated booking process for $25 less, but decided to try BtcTrip.

The booking itself is perfect, the available flights are displayed very conveniently and you just select a flight, enter your name, scan the Bitpay QR-Code and it displays "Invoice paid". Great!

Unfortunately what follows is not what I'd expect from an online booking. I get this http://imgur.com/ugRoCxt screen and clicking I have paid does not make anything happen. So I'm stuck here (latest Firefox).

Now since I read about shantee's experiences I will just wait a few days for my ticket to (hopefully) arrive, but if I hadn't read this thread I would be clueless about whether
a) The booking worked and I'm not ending up without a flight and my Bitcoins, having to book the flight again at a (likely) higher price
b) I will get the tickets any time soon

Please understand this as constructive feedback, I absolutely like what you guys are doing, but I wouldn't tell my parents to use it yet, even though they have (and use) Bitcoins.

Update: No confirmation/ticket after 36 hours, sent them a mail now.
Update2: Got a quick reply that there was a server error, had to resend my personal data, flight seems to be reserved now and since the price dropped a little in the meantime I'll get a little refund. So I'm pleased with the customer service and hoping to get my ticket soon Smiley
Update3: Ok, so I got my ticket and the confirmation shows the correct dates, but when I log in to the airline, the return date is wrong Sad Have to get back to support. (Looks like it's their wholesaler's fault as the confirmation mail from BTCTrip has the correct dates)
Update4: Got the corrected ticket and the price difference refund now. Looking forward to the flight!

Conclusion: The whole process seems to be "alpha", considering how many things went wrong in my case. However the customer service is great, so if you have some time and are enthusiastic about Bitcoin I'd still recommend to use it Smiley

...So wednesday (the 1st)  I bought a plane ticket there (Berlin -> Paris) .  I paid, got my receipt and about an hour after all I got was an email saying this

Quote
"Hi!

We received your payment registered with this invoice and we are booking your ticket.
We will keep you informed about the booking process.

Thank you!
BtcTrip Team"

Till now I haven't received anything else from them. That's not really reassuring , especially knowing that I booked this flight for next tuesday. So now I am wondering , is this site still working ? has it become a scam ? Does anybody got some good review booking a plane ticket on btctrip ? (or maybe I just worry too much and it's just "normal" ?)

I fear for you dude.

great service, I hope you will keep it up and running.

Pale Phoenix got a good point about the webpage, it is extremely important to keep the webpage up to date, because this is the first thing me and everyone else is judging when we're trying to decide if this is still legit.

Just a bit of friendly advice... keep the graphics on your front page updated. I just visited to check on a flight but when I see ads for events from earlier this year it makes me wonder if you're still operating and erodes confidence in the brand.

Thank you for the advice!
Fixed.

We are happy to announce that BtcTrip.com has been released! It's the first plane tickets website to accept only Bitcoins as a payment option.

We kindly ask you as a community (what we are proud to be part of) to help us out test it beta version and spread a word! We've prepared special discounts for those who help us get traction!

We hope many will find us offering Bitcoins only offers a good reason to get started with Bitcoins.

Thank you so much, this is great!

But I wonder if I have found a bug - nothing happens when I click the "Buy" button after searching for tickets...

May be a bug, we are still in beta.

What SO and browser are using you?

In Google Chrome I needed to double click the buy button.
Also as a test I tried to search for tickets from AMS -> JFK -> AMS. Go on September 9, return on September 23.

Skyscanner found a flight for 530EUR (http://www.travel2be.nl/HtmlRedirectT2BNL2/AMS/NYC/1/0/0/09-09-2013/23-09-2013/RT/false/true/d9aZEXNL/TEPyUXlTe0yv2nwn65l2Z760HAh336DbvJRsAwYYYaTCB1QVCOTRruZNJ4p46xAZqiJi99qpeiGV0Nx2mahdvg==/?cmp=d9aZEXNL no idea if this link works for anyone but me) but your site had 570EUR as cheapest.

The one via SkyScanner used Air Europa

18:15 AMS – 12:40 JFK
1 tussenstop MAD
24 u. 25 min. (+1) (total travel time, yes, 24 h Cheesy)

return:
22:05 JFK – 15:40 AMS
1 tussenstop MAD
11 u. 35 min. (+1)

you found:
OUTBOUND Amsterdam, AMS
Nueva York, JFK
Monday 9 september, 2013
Depart: 16:20 Arrive: 22:05 11h 45m 1 Stop British Airways British Airways

INBOUND Nueva York, JFK
Amsterdam, AMS
Monday 23 september, 2013
Depart: 19:45 Arrive: 18:10 16h 25m 1 Stop British Airways British Airways

Not interested in this flight but I just thought "let's check it out".

Thank for you comment vlees.

You are right, still we don't can show the best prices for all the airlines.
We are working in the integration with other flight search engines to the actual one.

By the way, we can get manually that flight ticket cheaper by a email request.

Regards,
BtcTrip Team

Wow he wasn't joking, these really are the cheapest flights I've ever seen.

Quote
  Total price USD 1.183

That's like, a little over 0.01 BTC.
Wait? Huh How's that possible?

Possible via the magic of typos. I'm sure it's supposed to say BTC 1.183.

You are right, it is an internationalization bug.
Now, all the prices are expressed in usd except the one of the checkout form that detail the total price in usd and btc. The prices in dollars use comma as decimal separator and the price in bitcoins use the dot as decimal separator.

We are working on fixing it.

Thank you!

Dear Bitcoin Community

I'm Martin Fernandez, the BtcTrip.com CEO. As I'm writing this, I'm based in LA and on my way to NYC.

Our website has been launched in a very hostile environment of the international policies trying to hold back Bitcoin development. If you are really committed to Bitcoin and freedom, we are looking for your support and attention.

Btctrip.com is a discounted airfares website which eliminates all third parties and their fees. Also thanks to automation, our staff expenses are significantly lower. Being BTC traders ourselves allows us to transfer margin into discounts for you.

Our mission is not only to sell plane tickets. We are embracing the Bitcoin community more than anything else by creating a business which caters to a new millenium client. Our investors, to whom we are very grateful for their support are well known figures from within startup community.

As we do really care about your trust and our credibility, you can buy all the tickets using escrow service.

Kind regards
