No thank you for being honest and agree there is flaws. I have been trying to show another company trying to do something similar but not quite how flawed they are and they refuse to fix it.

We started CryptoCertify to address exactly your concerns, to bring trust to the marketplace. We are thorough about our certifications, however we can not certify the actions of the developer because the actions of people are beyond our control. A person is not the same as a car. The code and build itself would be a better analogy to a car because both are inanimate objects. We certify the code and the builds.

In terms of developers, we have documentation on the lead developers for the projects we certify. We make several cross-checks to validate the documents. We retain these documents after certification. A Developer Certification is a prerequisite for Code and Launch Certifications. We are not responsible for the actions of others. Anyone can turn bad. We do not certify that a developer won't turn bad or act dishonestly because absolutely no one can make that guarantee. We have denied several certifications based on our subjective judgement about the intentions of developers. However, even these denials are no guarantee that the people we certify will not turn bad.

We do not certify that any coin is a good investment. We only certify that a developer has provided legal documentation to us that the developer is the individual they claim to be. Nowhere do we express or imply that we certify the future actions of an individual. Developers do not work on our behalf. We do not direct their actions.

You make some excellent points. Like any investment there are no guarantees that the investment will not lose money. We make no such guarantees. However, we believe that submitting the developer, code, and builds to our review process will help reduce the risk for investors and build trust over time.

From your history opposing wrongdoing in the crypto-coin markets, we believe that both we are fighting for the same results: a more trustworthy marketplace.

Thank you again for your insight. We appreciate this opportunity to engage in this dialog with you.

This is just a problem I see from dealing with the crypto world, if you certify someone. code. or dev or a coin. Then something goes wrong you are now liable cause you certified them. Such as a Dev, turns out to be a felon and waits till everything all done the robs everyone blind. You certified this guy that gives users a false sense of security, you are no liable cause you have "certified them". I hope you have thought these type of problem through.

Its kinda like this you bought a certified pre owned car, then the engine blows up. The dealership that certified that vehicle is now liable to fix it and compensate the owner.

Are you really willing to take those type of risks Professor?

Thank you for your inquiries.

You are correct in that there exists no certifier's certifier for cryptocurrencies. This field is still new, so we must acknowledge that no higher authority certifies our services. However, we did submit to an identification process both with the State of Washington and with Comodo. Essentially they certify our identity. However, as you point out, no one certifies our technical knowledge with respect to cryptocurrencies. If you know of such a certifying authority, we would be grateful if you could point us to it.

We think that this fact is reflected in our pricing, which for the moment is only 0.4 BTC for a Deployment or Launch Certificate. These certifications are the highest levels we offer. A Deployment Certificate, for example, certifies that we have determined from legal documents supplied to us that a developer has the identity they claim. For this certificate, we also look at the source code for any potentially malicious behavior. We further inspect the code to ensure that its behavior complies with specifications provided to us by the developer. We also ensure that the specifications reported to us are faithfully reported at the bitcointalk announcement and coin website, if it exists. Finally, we build and test the code to make sure the behavior conforms to our expectations with respect to coin emssion. If the coin is an ICO, we monitor the behavior of the live block chain during the ICO as well. We sign these builds, which the developer may and should distribute. We only provide signed builds when the ICO is nearly complete, to give us the maximum amount of time to observe the behavior of the live block chain.

If a coin has a CryptoCertify Launch Certificate or Deployment Certificate, then the Windows and OS X builds will bear our cryptographic signature. This signature helps protect the user. If the user does not see evidence of the signature upon starting the program, the user should not use the build.

Finally, because cryptocurrencies are new, we hope to let the public be our certifiers in the absence of a centralized authority. We aim to build our reputation and brand by carefully inspecting the coins and developers we certify. Again, we feel like this lack of a higher certifying authority is reflected in our pricing. But please feel free to link back to this post as proof that no higher certifying authority certifies our services. We fully acknowledge your concern and absolutely do not want to appear that we misrepresent this fact in any way.

who certify's you? You have to have some sort of standing in order to certify someone....

I understand Mr Stroud teaches about DNA and Proteins but how does that apply to certifying code and people?  Wink

I think you need to update you address as well cause you live in Los Angles now correct?

I'm a bit unclear... are your services targeted at creating a brand new cryptocurrency from the ground up. or do you simply certify existing crypto's (or both)?

We take the PoD idea and extend it to code verification, and builds guaranteed to be free of viruses. This way you don't have to worry about getting hijacked or have a hidden premine somewhere.

01 / DEVELOPER ID VERIFICATION

We begin with a rigorous identity verification of the lead developers.
Identity verification is a multi-step process that involves written and/or verbal communication,
video chat and legal proof of identity, such as notarized identity verification.
We ensure that only identified developers have access to code repositories.

02 / CODE REVIEW

Identifed developers are then eligible for a complete code review wherein our cryptocurrency
experts look for anomalies related to the money supply, such as obfuscated pre-mines or post-mines.
Our experts also ensure that the money supply will stay within limits specified by the coin developers,
and identify any potential bugs found during review.

03 / TESTING AND BUILDING

Our development team then builds the wallet code as a deployable Microsoft Windows application
and tests for basic wallet operations and networking. Part of the testing process includes a blockchain
analysis to verify that coin production meets specifications in terms of money supply and block times.
We also provide similar services for Mac OS X and Linux deployment.

04 / ELECTRONIC CODE CERTIFICATION

After testing, we electronically sign the code using a digital certificate recognized by Microsoft, Apple,
and other major software vendors. This signature ensures that the program does not change between
its digital certification and deployment to your users.

05 / RATINGS

Finally, as part of our process, we offer coin ratings based on identity verification, code review, testing,
and whether certified wallets were used at launch. These ratings are:
