Is it really taking up so many resources to leave them as-is?

What's the rationale for removing them and freeing up the urls?

annoying new people who find simple names already taken? (even though dormant)

i've just completed the first cull (of links from 2011)

if you missed this deadline and wanted to keep an old link, you can simply go create it again (maybe in PINK this time)... or PM me about my offline backups...

Any links that Google has would be accessed all the time, because that's what bots do. So, this will most likely not effect any published links.

OT: What's so bad about it?  I no get

People like psy (and probably me as well) are going to start squatting on other peoples URL's, and then take the payments which were supposed to go to the original owner.

Donations for this helpful post go here:

So fine.  You made the post, so you get the donation?

If nobody has clicked on it in a year... I sincerely doubt it's still active.

haha if any payments were supposed to go to the original owner, then why has noone, not even for a fraction of a second, visited the link in over 12 months?

i think having to hit the link just once per year to keep it active is pretty reasonable, especially considering the service is free/donation-based.

This is a bad idea...

Or a very good one, depending on which side you are Wink

What will you do with links that get deleted?
Present a page saying "link not valid" or giving out your own address?

Then you should make this fact clear on your website, that the links are only good for one year if unaccessed.

This.

Also you do realize you are creating a spam incentive right.  The profitable thing to do right now is via web searches and screen scrapes find every payb.tc address you can and after 1 JAN simply re-register them all to hijack any funds sent there in the future.

the point is, it is highly unlikely any funds will be sent there. no one has even hit the links in almost 18 months.

i will put a notice up on the website, however.

after New Year rolls around, i'm going to clear out any payb.tc links that are no longer being used (since over 12 months ago).

so any links with a last_accessed_date in 2011 will be archived so those usernames can be made available again to people actually using the site.

if you have old links that you want to keep, simply visit your link sometime before 2013 1st Feb 2013.
