Quick update - we've implemented our random number picker AND made it more obvious per Sjyi's feedback!

You can read more about the update here!

Fantastic!

"RANDOMISE!" is obviously visible.

Is it a good choice for such a project? recently was a firelotto they as I know, too, were more lucky and similar subjects how do you think you can excel at this?

Hello assasin21rus!

Thank you for the good question! Here is how we feel about the matter:

Firelotto are indeed our competitor, but we don't think they can compare to us at all. For a start they take a large cut of every ticket for themselves meaning smaller returns for investors.

In addition, there is every chance that  Firelotto steals your dividends and winnings which they can easily do because they are completely centralized meaning that you have to trust them with everything, unlike with Etheraffle.

They also don't publish their smart contracts meaning you are at risk from a Firelotto exit scam & them running away with all your money.

Their token doesn't pass the Howie test and so will be viewed as a security when the time comes, and so possibly illegal.

Their company representatives didn't know the URL to their own Github when we met them, and then later thought that showing us some javascript was the same thing as them showing their smart-contracts. If you read their ANN thread you will notice worrying concerns about their leadership and past scams they have been involved in, as well as them failing to pay out winner's prizes in a timely fashion, if at all. Our raffles are automatic, unlike Firelotto, meaning you withdraw your winnings whenever you want!

And worst of all, it seems like Firelotto are driven purely by greed since they take 10% for themselves and give nothing to charity! Our goal is to give as much to charity as possible! So we take 0% for ourselves!

In fact, we compared ourselves to a few other blockchain lotteries too and this was the result:

Since I have purchased the raffle tickets, I have checked the results screen, but I don't see any "claims" for the LOT token Promotion.  I thought I would see them only on Saturdays.  Well, I still don't see it.

Would you please confirm the behavior for this?

Thanks,

Hi Sjyi

The claim button only appears on the main page on Saturday. We chose to do this because you can only claim once per week. So if you enter, then claimed your free LOT, then entered again, you wouldn't be able to get your second amount of LOT in the same week. So to avoid confusion we opted to have the "Redeem" button appear only on Saturdays.

However, the new update we just pushed last night introduces a way where you can redeem tokens from previous week's entries when you want - it's in the FAQ:

1) Go to the FAQ tab

2) Open the "Can I claim from a previous weeks" question

3) Pick which week you want to claim from via the drop down menu

4) If you have tokens awaiting you, click the redeem button!

Let us know if you have any further issues redeeming your tokens!

Hi Sjyi

Are you talking about the fees, which I don't think it is, or the code implementation and verification effort?

We are talking about both. The only way to automate it without human intervention would be via oracles, which is doable but costly. And the prize pool would have to shoulder that cost. Which would be fine for jackpot wins, since it'd be such a small percentage, but problematic for smaller wins. Especially wins like the two match one we are currently working on....

When I think about it, 10 weeks should be long enough, but a person like me, would somehow forget to claim the prize.  I would feel it would be extremely unfair.  But that is life.  Leaving the current method of claiming the winning should be good.

Another option was of course to have no time limit whatsoever, and just have it available forever for withdrawal. But we didn't like that idea of ETH becoming "stuck" if left unclaimed forever. We thought it better to give a reasonable redemption period after which unclaimed prizes are reclaimed by the contract.

As far as whether to roll the unclaimed winning back into the prize pool or fund the charity, I would vote to roll it back on to the prize pool.  But then as the token holders, we can also suggest changing the behavior and vote on the issue.  This is another positive point.  The token holders control the behavior, not a central power.

That's the great thing - eventually the community as a whole can democratically vote on this! We prefer the prize pool method for now, since the amount raised for charity depends on the level of play, and more attractive prize pools will drive more play.

In the current contract code, the winnings need to be claimed within 10 week grace period after a drawing.

With all aspects of etheraffle being automated, why not automate the winning distribution as well?
The system has the information the address of the winning ticket(s).  I'm sure someone will forget to claim within the grace timeframe, but etheraffle supporting altruistic goals, automatic payment would be a great selling point on top of the current positives.

Hi Sjyi

Good question!

Our reasons for opting for a withdraw method, over a "push" method are threefold:

1) If we were to automate the sending of winnings, the contract would be open to a whole new class of re-entrancy bugs that could jeopardise its security.

2) If you look at what happens in the contract, you'll notice that any unredeemed prizes after the ten-week grace period roll back into the prize pool, so all non-winners benefit. We actually thought about maybe having this unclaimed fund going to the charity contract instead, and still might do so. What do you think?

Most importantly though:

3) It is expensive to automate, which is why our competitors, who send out winnings, do so manually, via an interaction with the contract by a centralized entity (be it human or bot), whom you have to trust to do this correctly and in a timely manner. We prefer our method whereby your prize winnings stay in the contract until you come to retrieve them.

With Etheraffle, you don't have to trust anyone in order to claim your ether!

Ah, I haven't thought about some of these issues.  Another proof that you guys are well prepared for the product.  Just curious about how expensive the automatic sends would be.  Are you talking about the fees, which I don't think it is, or the code implementation and verification effort?

allocation for bounty program is 1.000.000 USD, how much token?
this project is unique for me and i want to join bounty and take part in it.

Hi. Taking the average price per LOT during the ICO, $1,000,000 = ~100,000,000 LOT.

It would be great to see you in the bounty. Head over to the Bounty Thread to get signed up!

Sjyi, I have forwarded your questions to the dev team.

Internet gambling is always profitable but the problem is the field is filled with many players and blockchain-based gambling services fill a very small niche. I don't know if this ICO will be a success but the potential is there.

...whats your proffit from this, if fee 0?

We agree that people are cooled to the idea of a lottery since all the existing blockchain ones do is copy real-world models but end up being worse! They are still centralized, take larger fees and do nothing for good causes.

Instead, we are aiming for a fully decentralized lottery who does raise money for good causes. We take ZERO fee because we want Etheraffle to be owned entirely by the LOT token holders, including ourselves! We will profit in exactly the same way any other LOT token holders do - with dividends that the LOT token gives. Our incentives are aligned exactly with yours - we want this to succeed.

We have made Etheraffle not because we want to own a lottery, but because we want everyone to own a lottery.

I don't know if Baltman's question was clearly answered.

Per the WP, each raffle's ticket sales allocation is broken down as follows:
Prize Pool: 67%
EthRelief Contract: 15%
Disbursal Contract: 15%
Overhead: 3%

So, 3% of the ticket sales goes to cover overhead.
I don't know how the LOT will be distributed, but if dev holds some LOT tockens, proportional amount of 15% of the disbursal contract should be distributed to devs as well as to other LOT token holders.  But this is my guess.  The official statement should clarify that further.

May I request a feature (or change)?

On the "Buy Ticket" screen, can you either add a confirmation dialog when "BUY TICKET!" is clicked?

Or allow the number selection to be accomplished after clicking "BUY TICKET!"

Or change the default numbers by removing them with empty characters.
(I prefer this method since I don't have to sort through the numbers that are already included due to default selection.)

I forgot about the number selection and clicked the "BUY TICKET!" and the default numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 was chosen.  Since there was no confirmation dialog, I bought that ticket.

Hi Sjyi

I purchased a couple of raffle tickets for the last Saturday's drawing. I did not win the last week's pot which I think was above 2 eths. I noticed the pot for the next week's pot is just less than 1 eth.  This means that someone won the pot.

Thank you for playing! Don't forget to visit again on Saturday to claim the LOT you'll have earned from your ticket purchase! With regards to the win, here's an article about it. Let us know if you have any other questions!

As for

Where can I see the information regarding who won and the distribution of ticket purchases?

Regarding the information of ticket purchases, you can look at the contract on Etherscan at any time to see the activity going on there. As for winners information, there is a leader board in current development that will eventually display the relevant information.

Take a look at the following ICO schedule.
https://etheraffle.com/ico#details

The earlier you obtain the LOT tokens, the more you get for your Eths.

I've missed out on the pre-ico rate, but you can still get the Tier 1 rate of 100,000 LOTs per Eth.

This is why we need a decentralized lottery - You can't hack user accounts if you don't need to keep any!

A novel concept for application that requires trustless transactions and transparent operations.  Read the whitepaper in entirety.  Looks to have done much work prior to the announcement.
