For some reason after the release of the Ledger Live program I can install a less quantity of wallets on the Ledger at the same time. Not clear why.
Well, Ledger Live is just a new desktop interface. None of the Ledger coin apps have changed, so everything is the same as before.

If this were true, how comes that now there is less space on my ledger? I have tried to uninstall and reinstall everything in different orders - result doesn't change. There is pace for one app less now. A mystery.

I have also noticed an user-unfriendly feature which is that some of the previously running wallets seem not to run any more and suddenly I can't reinstall a wallet due to a "lack of  space" issue.
I was saying that the Monero installation isn't user-friendly. There is an important reason for the lack of space in the Nano S.

Quote
There's a limit on the number of applications that can be installed because the available flash is relatively low and there's a significant amount of duplicated code. We plan to address this in the future (by optimizing things around and grouping applications together), but in the meantime you can just delete the coin applications you don't need right now and reinstall them when you need to transact. Nothing is lost as the private keys never leave the device.

Looks like it's still not that user-friendly (15 steps to set up your Monero wallet and you need to use the CLI). You also need to enable "show developer items" to install the app on your device.

It's probably better if those who are not very tech savvy wait until there is a better integration with a Monero wallet.

I liked. The only issue is that they don't support all the coins right now - like NEO and Stellar (P.S: I'm aware they plan to do support them in the future).

A dark mode would also be appreciated. Excited for the future updates!

I am using HW Ledger Nano S.
I just wanted to ask if it is possible that I send different amounts of BTC to different addresses in one transaction?

Like this for example: https://blockexplorer.com/tx/b47859c05c087a02e40fc8953aeb2e9de088700eef99c92aafa09bb56bcf7f49

With a Ledger Nano S you should be able to send multiple transactions by installing Electrum and creating a new wallet using your hardware wallet. Unfortunately, Electrum 3.0 hasn't been released yet so you won't be able to use it with Segwit address. Only Legacy wallets are working with Electrum right now.

Yes I found out that myself too Smiley thanks for help anyway.

Now I have another problem, I'm using Ledger Nano (old one, which only supports bitcoin).
Everything was running smoothly until I wanted to check something yesterday. When I entered my pin this message showed up:

I have 2 Ledger Nano wallets and problem is same on both.

So should I enter pin wrong 3 times, so ledger wallet resets? And then I import my private keys?
Is there any explanation why this happened?

EDITED: I have done nothing but it's now working with no problems. Did maybe Ledger had some issues? Any update about this kind of problems?

My ledger nano wallet firmware is old. I am holding btc eth etc ltc. I wanna split my bcc but I need to uptate firmware. After update I need to recover by using security keyword by I am afraid of losing my coins. Has anyone ever recover it?

I found the first firmware update nerve wracking too.

The Ledgerwallet forum on Reddit is very active, you might find some suggestions there if you are really not sure about your seed, I’ve seen a few posts there lately from people with the same concerns.

I'd like to create a Armory Lockbox with the Ledger as one of the signees. I know how to take the xpub address from the Ledger Wallet app and convert it to hex for import into Armory. That's not the issue.

The question is if I create a "spend" tranaction under Armory that requires a confirmation from my Ledger wallet how do I import the transaction "blob" into the Ledger wallet for confirmation? Is it possible?

I know that when you set up a MultiSig wallet with Coinkite, Coinkite sends the "blob" to my Ledger wallet for confirmation. Is there something similar or a manual way to achieve this functionality outside of Coinkite?

Please advise.

Done. Offered diag version, but hasn't been sent yet.

Can confirm. Same here too. No firewall, no permissions restrictions.
Can't see review comments from other people on the play store, only stars. But maybe it's working for some people?

Please send an email to support[at]ledgerwallet[dot]com with information regarding your smartphone (brand, OS version...)
We'll check with our team why it's not working for you.

Hi!

The app for Android (is what i have) it is not working for to validate the transactions, i end always using the card. The validation never arrive to the handy and they are paired and so on.

Any idea why? Thanks in advance for the help

Have you tried to kill and relaunch the Android app after having received the push notification?
(or do you never receive the push ?)

I will try to kill the app... i never recieve the push, it never works... but the phone is paired to the account

It is located on your recovery sheet. On the left of your 24 words you have a QRcode. This QRcode contains the 32 characters of your security card (which you can scan during the update).
On wallets bought after January, the 32 characters are also printed below the QRcode.

If you lost your original recovery card, you can generate a new security card (with the 32 char code) here:

Ad maiora!
I've got a problem with this update. the first thing it asks for is "32 digit code from security card" nowhere on my security card is any 32 digit code. the security card (the plastic card) is just a legend af a upper and lower case alphabets and digits 0-9 all with corresponding numbers or digits. there is no 32 digit code. what is going on. I do not wish to begin the update progress because ledger tells me it will delete wallet. I do have my 24 word recover mnemonic, and my 4 digit entry code, when i open my wallet all my btc are intact. WTF is this mysterious 32 digit recovery code and where the hell is it located?

The Chrome application team will release a fix shortly for that one.

In the time being the best way to get past it is to finalize the update on https://fup.hardwarewallet.com - just install the extensions and do click without entering the security card, it should display that the update was successful almost immediately then you can use it.

Note that this needs to have the driver for the new product ID 0x3b7c recognized - that means, on Windows, waiting for the driver to be installed, then kill all Chrome sessions (through the Process Manager), then do it. On Linux, you have to modify /etc/udev/rules.d to add the new rule as you did on the first install.

Seems like all of the ledger we purchased (to resell) have the same issue with the new update.

The client want to update the firmware from 1.0.1 to 1.0.1 Huh

Tried 5 ledger on 3 computer.

It would either fail stalling in the update process or would do this

Ledger is proud to announce the immediate availability of a low cost version of its Ledger Nano hardware wallet: the Ledger HW1. It is fully compatible and interchangeable with the Ledger Nano, but with a cheaper (and less elegant) plastic form factor.

Cost is 15 EUR, including free worldwide shipping.
(+ VAT for European countries)

https://www.ledgerwallet.com/shop

When you receive a Ledger HW1, this is what you get:
* the Ledger HW1 USB key, on a plastic form factor
* a security card
* instructions
* a recovery sheet

You will *NOT* get the following:
* the white box packaging
* the metal key engraved with "vires in numeris" and Ledger logo
* the leather pouch of the security card
* the lanyard and rings for the key

The key form factor is the main difference between the two products. It is very strong and reliable, but it definitely looks "cheaper" than the Ledger Nano metal counterpart. Also, you'll get the HW1 brand, the plastic key doesn't have any mention of the Ledger brand.

Would it be difficult to implement a Ledger Wallet compatible withe some alt-coins like Peercoin?

It would be very interesting to have a Peercoin compatible Ledger Wallet configured to only sign coinstake transactions.

We could plug it on a Raspberry Pi for example to obtain a highly securised minting full node.  We wouldn't need cold minting anymore.

What do you think?

Any thoughts on this? I'm also quite interested!

ChromeOS is indeed a pain to run on MacOS. A simple solution would be to run a fresh Linux Ubuntu instance, install Chrome, add the udev rules (see our FAQ) and install the Ledger Chrome app.
Once it's done, remove internet access from the computer (or isolate the VM) and initialize the Ledger. When the procedure is over, just shutdown and destroy the Ubuntu instance.

Thanks for the help, I haven't bought one of these yet and now don't think i will.
Security of my bitcoins is a top priority but this just seems like a pain in the ass, especially when purchasing a item that is designed for securing BTC.

I'm not dev or computer expert but there is easier ways to store your coins and still sleep feeling safe at night.
I ended up going for the MyCelium Entropy, just the delay in shipping these is killing me, hope to have it soon.

I bought the ledger wallet, because I read on CCN about it. It seemed to be an easy and safe way to store bitcoins. The staff (support) was very helpful and friendly. Most of you knew, that there is a BUT coming real soon.

Well, here it is. This thing is absolutely worthless! You know why? Who cares, how simple you can use the ledger wallet or how safe and secure your bitcoins are stored on that particular device, if one is unable to set it up. This thing is marketed to Jon Doe owning BTC. It tells you all about the simple and secure way to transfer BTCs on any system simply by mounting a USB device. Yeah, but what they do not tell you - or state correctly - mention in a side note, how bad ass the setup process is.

YOU NEED TO BE A DEVELOPER TO SET IT UP SAFELY. I've been around the block, even work in an IT company, but no, I'm not a developer. I'm a user! I'm into tech. But I needed to ask a friend to wrap my head around the Virtual Box Machine thing, because I use OSX. Then it was easy to install VM. It was also easy to find a chromium image to run under VM. But of course, the Chrome version is too old. I spent hours in the net, tryiing several images from this URL
http://chromium.arnoldthebat.co.uk/index.php?dir=daily%2F
which was recommended by Ledger wallet. But after the fourth bad image I gave up. Frustrated. Angry!

One may argue, it's not ledger wallet's fault, that you run OS X. It's also not their fault, that images in the internet are broken. Of course it is not their fault, that I'm not computer scientisticated enough to figure that one out. Yeah, one could say all of that. But ledger wallet is guilty of really really bad misleading marketing.
They sell the product to people, who are longing for a SIMPLE and EASY solution to store their bitcoins. Something everybody can understand. But they completely fail to WARN the potential user, that their easy product is only easy to use, but really really military grade complicated to setup.
Well of course, I could use my Mac as it is. But what sense does it make, buying a 39EUR device for security by jeopardizing all of it from the start? Correct, it doesn't make any sense. That's my point. Ledger wallet may be secure and easy to use. But to get there, it's as complicated as it gets. I'm gonna trash the crap, because by the time I spent trying to figure it out, I would have executed 100s of paper wallets and regular transactions.

Thanks.

I don't think there is an upgrade option. If you really want to buy, try selling both of 'em. There may be people who are interested in buying these for testing or for real use.

I like cheap gadgets so figured I'd pick one of these up.

Arrived Christmas Eve so was an early present for me, so here are my initial thoughts.

Wow it's tiny, I know there are pictures but it still suprised me Smiley

I had some initial trouble generating new bitcoin addresses on the device.  Eric told me via support that once a payment is received it will generate a new address but for me this wasn't working it kept giving me the same one. I just tried it again a couple of days later and now it has, so not sure what happened there.

As the device can have multiple addresses there needs to be a way to view them in the chrome plugin, currently you can only see a list of transactions.  As someone who uses blockchain.info would appreciate an option to view a list of addresses and their balance (and I think it's on the roadmap but being able to label an address would be good too)

Apart from those minor niggles I'm very happy with the device.

get two Ledger Wallets initialized with the same seed, different PINs, put the Ledger Wallet along with the written PIN in your will, problem solved  Grin we could rename the "Duo Edition" "Necro Edition", but I'm not sure marketing will approve

build yourself your own hardware wallet : http://www.acs.com.hk/en/products/274/cryptomate64-client-kit/

implementing BIP 32 with PKCS #11 is probably going to be even more painful than to implement it over Java Card. Not even talking about transaction validation here  Kiss

yes appreciating the reviews  Grin

You claim that it is safe to use Ledger wallet on a compromised computer also.

If there is a specific malware targeted against Ledger, would it not be possible to freeze and take control of your computer after you have entered the pin, then transfer all your bitcoins?

EDIT: I read a bit more about your product. Didn't catch the security card first time. Seems like you got this covered.

the one thing I would really like to know is the say so one was able to get the HASH that you use to make the SEED. would a person not be able to then just use a database of words used in the seed to make diffrent combines up and try to crack the wallet.

like right now I know the 1 PC that I have with a wallet on it is 100% safe as its only online when I use it for spending. Wallet is also password protected so for 1 I know that my coins just can't get up and go missing.
on the other hand when i'm thinking of these hardware wallets it always comes to my mind how about if some one was able to crack the HASH and just crack wallets like that. what stops a hacker / cracker from doing that now ?

The seed has an entropy of 256 bits so it not more crackable than any other seed. It is after encoded using a dictionary of 2048 words (BIP39), but this is just a mnemonic. It is important to understand that the user doesn't choose the words : the words come from the seed.

For reviewers we have special discount code of 30% (PM sent)

These hardware wallets, I mean Trezor, btchip and ledgerwallet solve one of the cold storage problems you have with a paper wallet. You could spend from your coldstorage without exposing all your stash. This problem could be solved with an offline computer running electrum and used to sign transactions built on an online computer, but this is not practical at all.

I see two other problems with cold storage:
  1. Backup of the seed
  2. transmission to your relatives if you die

Backup of the seed is problematic because if you just make a copy of the seed and put it in a safe place, you still have many risks. Fire and theft are the main ones. To avoid fire, you could make many copies, but theft risk increased. To avoid theft, you could put it in a vault, but i don't like banks.
One elegant solution is passguardian, but the output is not elegant (hexadecimal). I tried to provide a more elegant version: http://passguardian.com/. It splits the secret as passguardian does, but output is made of words rather than hexadecimal. This solution is just a proof of concept and need to be tested, adapted to bip39 and integrated in some wallet. Ledgerwallet is a good candidate for this.

1.) is https://hardwarewallet.com/ the same as this device ?

I would like to buy the device but when https://hardwarewallet.com/ sells them at $13 usd compared to you at $40 usd
I also see that https://hardwarewallet.com/ has google auth options. does your device use google auth aswell or only the card that comes with the dongle

did you just use the BTChip HW1 and add your own wallet + making of the seed and all that if that is the case why would i buy the ledger wallet when i can do all that with the hardwarewallet ?

please inform me what the diff's of ledger vs hardwarewallet is because i see nothing but your chrome app

This is the same base device. BTChip and Ledger are the same team/company.
There is no Google auth option on either of the chips, so I'm not sure what you are referring to?

The difference between the two products basicaly lies in the user experience. The Ledger Wallet comes with a second factor card which is used for payment addresse verification, the HW1 requires to dump the payment address to a second computer for visual confirmation.
In other words, you could say that HW1 is fine for developpers, and Ledger Wallet is more for general purpose usage.

i guess i'm confused as it showed a google auth on the hardwarewallet site in one of the videos.
I do see https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kav7ME2Gd5I = the greenaddress so it must be in the wallet not the chip.
thanks for the reply , i plan on picking one of the ledger and doing a review or something. I like to play with stuff in my off time.
I have in mind to test all the hardware wallets that are out on the market. I have already bought the trezor , next this , and maybe a hardwarewallet aswell.

2. If this is the same chip, is it possible to use greenwallet and not the chrome wallet you provide ?
3. If I use greenwallet, am i able to use it from my android phone, as it is possible with btchip ?

Yes it is the same chip, by evolution we mean more globaly as a full product.

You can use the Ledger Wallet wth Greenwallet or Electrum 2.0. It is also possible to use it with your Android phone and the greenwallet application (with the cable adapter).

Thanks for this quick answer. your products are great. I am going to buy one, the ledger version as it looks more solid. I will keep posting questions if i have.

I am happy to see french companies could develop great products.

1. You said above ledgerwallet and btchip are the same chip. But in Ledgerwallet FAQ, i read the following:

Quote
Ledger Wallet is an evolution of the well known BTChip HW1 hardware wallet. Its security has been thoroughly reviewed by industry experts.

Ledger, a newly created company founded by La Maison Du Bitcoin, Chronocoin and BTChip is happy to announce the immediate availability of Ledger Wallet, launched today at http://www.ledgerwallet.com

Ledger Wallet is an easy to use USB smartcard + Chrome wallet application, powered by the HW.1 firmware, which appeared almost 2 years ago on Bicointalk. Have fun and enjoy it in a new, shiny packaging Smiley

I'll keep that thread for general public Ledger Wallet announcements, and the other thread for specific technical announcements
