Hey everyone, this is my first time posting here so forgive me if I have broken any rules.
I'm a long-time reddit user who grew tired of watching the site go to shit, and wanted to try my hand at building a blockchain-based alternative.
The goals were: 1) economically incentivize quality posting 2) enforce and preserve quality norms by empowering earlier users 3) keep it simple and easy to use
Right now the site has 3 different "streams", each one publishing (and rewarding) the top-voted content according to a specific frequency. Right now we have hourly, semidaily, and weekly. (I know semidaily is a weird word, but daily would give unfairly prioritize some timezones).
Much of this work is inspired by Steemit, in particular, the idea that inflation can be a general tool for rewarding individuals to do subjective-value labor for the community.
My main gripes with Steemit (that I have tried to avoid) stem from its goal of becoming a SoV currency and trying to compete with bitcoin. That is not my goal here. I have included no mechanisms to try and incentivize you to hold these tokens or lock them up. Furthermore, if this succeeds we will have to create many different communities/subreddits and I will expect that each one will want to have their own token.
Eventually I would like to give users full control over deciding voting/power/token structures, much like a form of reddit where every subreddit was its own DAO, linked together in a fluid tree structure for social scalability.
I have not written a white paper, I have built a working website and I would encourage you to check it out:
https://upbloc.io/I am looking for feedback, to know if any of you like this idea and would like me to continue working on it.
tl;dr: I made a website where you can post/upvote content and be rewarded with an ERC-20 token:
