Check your first post in this thread, some images cannot be loaded (at least for me), maybe you should fix that.

Bloody Imgur.... time to move them to Talkimg.

I have just finished moving the website to a new hosting provider, so if there are any resolve errors when you try to access the site, then this is probably the reason why.

Name servers have also been changed so expect this process to take anywhere between 24 to 48 hours, or perhaps more if the domain resolution continues to act up.

HTTPS currently doesn't work. Working on a fix.

As far as I can see, everything is working for me, ssl as well.

I would suggest that you turn off certain sections on the site or at least reduce the size of the block they occupy. For example "Latest Slideshows" block is empty, but it takes up a lot of space on the page. Because of this, everything seems unfinished or with a lack of content.

This is the first time I'm seeing this thread, great initiative, NotATether!

If I may make a suggestion; I watched the video about containers, and honestly it got a bit frustrating.  The music is too loud and distracting in comparison to the narration.  Digital voice narration isn't the easiest to follow in the first place, as they often get accent iterations wrong, and with the background music drowning out parts of the narration it gets kind of murky.  Otherwise the video is pretty good as a basic introduction to containers.

I look forward to reading the articles too.

I've improved the video quality in subsequent videos (in particular the latest video has the background music capped at 40%, unlike some of the old ones where music is at 100% relative to the narration).

Not all of the Youtube videos have been posted on my site yet - I still have a backlog.

I also got a better narrator - you'll be surprised at how good the Microsoft Edge read-aloud voices are - so that will have to settle until I invest in some video equipment.

Overall I'm starting to restrict music to stuff from the Youtube audio library as random songs pulled from "free audio" channels is unpredictable in genre and they're a "whatever quality you're stuck with" kind of thing.

Don't forget to subscribe Smiley

Superbump! The redesign is complete. And not only is there now video content, you will be treated to a weekly slurge of guides even if I'm not around to write it. I'll just have J.A.R.V.I.S do it for me.

Mirror.xyz is the newest platform for publishing articles.

Mirror.xyz's registration system involves entering a "race" where the applicants with the top 10 votes gain entry to the platform. It converts your articles into NFTs, which can earn publishers a part of the website's revenue, which is split between all publishers.

We have applied to join this platform, and we need your vote to get accepted in. You can view our application at https://mirror.xyz/race?candidate=NotATether. Your vote is very much appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

When your website is fully loaded, the cookie disclaimer banner completely overlaps the dark/light mode button.
- It'd be better if that button was moved to the header area instead.

I tried moving the dark mode button to the navbar, it completely messed up the menu labels' layouts by shifting them down.
And I can't move the cookie notice to another place besides the bottom or the top of the page. Ideally, I would like it to pop up and dim the whole screen but I don't have a setting for that.

While using the dark mode, switching between pages leads to a temporary light mode [more like a quick flash].

It's a network connectivity problem, and nothing I can do from my end since the setting is stored as a cookie and must be read with Javascript on the client side.

Just wondering, does it work by checking browser's time/timezone?

The automatic dark mode activates during your timezone's 6PM to 6AM, correct.

We added a new dark mode a while back, check it out and leave your feedback about it here. It even auto-activates itself during night hours. Smiley
I believe this is the first time that I've experienced an "automated" night mode [nice touch], but I did find two minor issues [sorry for nitpicking Grin]: Video link

  • When your website is fully loaded, the cookie disclaimer banner completely overlaps the dark/light mode button.
    - It'd be better if that button was moved to the header area instead.

Also, coming soon are large amounts of tools; from general-purpose string utilities and random number generators to Bitcoin-specific ones, I'm in the closing stages of finishing them up and adding them to the site.

Hey guys, I am thinking about adding a section about ongoing scam websites to my site. What do you guys think of this idea? How should I write about it to avoid mentioning every single scam site and its (broken) domain, since that wouldn't be particularly engaging to readers?

It doesn't have to be a particularly good read in order to become a .. reference.
Of course, you have to pay attention and find a way to post those domains in a way you won't just create back links to them and help their ranking.
And of course, you have to automate the process.

All in all, it can be more work than the reward, but it can become a reference site people come to get and updated list from, a list for domains they can put into host file as 0.0.0.0 or something similar (maybe you even provide such a file too, but make sure it's not a static link, else nobody will visit your page)

Personally, i think that linking websites is terrible and has very little positive effect. Most of the users which will go to your website don't need to be informed that electromdonwload.io (just created this name now for an example) might be a scam.

When you link a scam website in your own (or in bitcointalk) you are increasing that scam domain authority in Google search engine. So people are more likely to find it.

Additionally, the number of fake domains grows everyday and we are always many steps behind.

I think that an article about how to prevent yourself from getting scammed is more useful... Sadly, people who get into those scams are usually people who don't read anything, so it is very hard to educate them.

I like the idea as long as it doesn't become like other known websites that keep track of everything [even those with broken domains]. Is it possible to have an automated process that checks those listings for down/broken websites and deletes them automatically without you having to manually maintain/edit the list?
- If the answer to the above question is "YES", then go for it [it'll be a time-consuming process to do everything manually].

As a bunch of posts no, but I'll have better luck embedding it as a React app on a page. How I will gather the data is also an unanswered question as you have to resort to AI to classify legit and scam domains, which will make false positives or negatives (and will likely require more computing power than I currently have accessible).

I tried /feed and it returns RSS data. Using https://rssatom.com/, some styling is gone which makes few parts (such as posts quote) annoying to read.

I second to that. RSS is quite difficult to read now. And if it helps, I use www.inoreader.com for RSS.

I'd also suggest for the topic smaller image at imgur instead of reducing it in the forum. This would make the file smaller and will not have delayed load up.

But, all in all, great job! Congrats!

I am also planning to add a few tools to the site such as fee estimator, mempool size viewer, bitcoin difficulty tracker etc.
Looking forward to those, but I'd suggest introducing background colors for every other response/post:
- I have nothing against separation lines while I'm using my computer, but they aren't visible when I'm using an RSS reader app for viewing your feed [not sure what else can be used instead].

e.g.
1st post = Default BG
2nd post = Grey BG
3rd Post = Default BG
  • Note: I do know this isn't going to apply to most of the RSS readers out there, but instead might improve the overall reading experience for other methods.

A dark mode would be nice as well Smiley
/Bookmarked.

None of that is possible with the Wordpress theme I'm using though. I can only change foreground colors, the whole background color (ie. I technically can configure dark colors but this will apply site-wide on everyone) and how the post title looks. It's a theme I purchased and don't really know how to do theme development anyway.

I do have an RSS feed though, it's at Wordpress' default URL so it should be somewhere like /feed but I have to double check.

My ad network, Coinzilla, does use CPM so yes.
How much do you  get from ads there? My portal has about 6k unique visitors per month,  but I don't use any ads. But I got much more than I expected from donations...

As I said, the ads aren't set up yet, but the rates appear to be variable depending on the site. I have no idea what they'd offer for my site though. It would be wise for me to build it up before registering it with them.

The rates are set depending on the quality of a website. In this process, we look at various factors such as website design, content quality, and more.

You might want to add link to the archive website like this.

A website. (original, archive)

That's going to take too much effort since I have to also update the existing posts with this information. I generate the posts using a tool I commissioned bitmover to make so it'll also involve me messing with more PHP, and PHP isn't exactly my strong suit (I am more of a Python/C++ person, and a tad bit of React but only to make the apps/tools that are going to be embedded on the Wordpress pages).

It's part of the reason why all posts have a link to the original on bitcointalk like this: (original)

Congratulations on your work notether.  I am happy to see so beautiful implementation of the code I sent you Wink

I can improve it and add the suggestion of Etfbitcoin.  I will just need to take a further look into it. Can I  get the achieved link  with a simple calculation?

I prefer to use python  and javascript,  just like you. But php has a very similar syntax and I am sure you would learn it very quickly.  I am not a great coder, but for small jobs I am able to work with it Smiley

New homepage layout rolled out yesterday  Smiley

Congratulation, the website looks good and i didn't see any ads Smiley. I made an archive at Wayback Machine as anniversary/commemoration (i'm not sure if it's correct term). I read few article and you always mention the original information source.

Uhm, admittingly ads are supposed to be part of the business model [I have to make money from this venture somehow], but I haven't set them up yet (my Alexa rank isn't high enough to partner with a network), but they won't be intrusive. I'm thinking of something like one at the top, one on the left and right, maybe a few sponsored links in the "Related posts" area but that's about it.

And I have heard of site plugins that "block" adblockers, I don't use any of those because it's against my philosophy. If someone has an adblocker anyway they won't want to click on your ads anyway.

You might want to add link to the archive website like this.
