Comparison of the Number of Validators in Decentralized Proof-of-Stake Networks as of August 17th, 2024.

Waterfall started with 2048 validators, and in the first month following the public launch, the network experienced a 338% growth, with the number of deployed validators increasing significantly thanks to contributions from various ecosystem participants (developers, the founding team, the community, builders, and others).

Decentralization of the consensus protocol allows the network to achieve a high degree of decentralization. The more independent validators there are, the higher the decentralization parameter will be.

Decentralization also significantly enhances security by preventing third-party interventions or manipulations.
Among various Proof-of-Stake decentralized networks, Waterfall now ranks as the third largest in terms of validator count.

Waterfall ensures that control and decision-making are distributed, strengthening both security and trust within the ecosystem.

We are excited to announce our partnership with Hinkal @hinkal_protocol (https://hinkal.pro)

Hinkal is a middleware and set of smart contracts on EVM chains that uses ZK-proofs and stealth addresses to enable compliant and discreet transactions on major dApps. Users can discreetly store assets and transact on major dApps such as Uniswap, Pendle, Lido, Curve, and others.

Hinkal uses an “Access Token” scheme to allow users to prove their innocence by demonstrating ownership of CEX accounts or with an integrity check via Authento, Zkme, or Galxe passport.

Hinkal prevents illicit users from accessing the protocol through a required “validity check.” This check means users can either use Centralized Exchanges or DID protocols to prove compliance. These attestations are reusable, allowing users to prove their legitimacy within the crypto space and use this proof to access Hinkal’s layer that enables non-disclosure of transactions. Hinkal does not maintain user records.

New Version of Waterfall Node Desktop App is available!

New Features:
0.3.1 Beta
- Download the latest snapshot when adding a new Node.
- Import workers.
- Remove workers and nodes.

Improvements:
- Add a path when removing a node.
- Disable activation/deactivation/withdraw workers buttons if the node is stopped.

Fixes:
- Add a check if a user tries to import a worker with an invalid mnemonic.
- Withdrawal procedure: When switching to another window, the fields are cleared.

In addition, we have enhanced the efficiency of our system resource consumption via our native Node application, whose performance has been improved by over three times on macOS.

We are currently in the process of obtaining a Code Signing Certificate from Apple and another trusted certificate authority. Once we have obtained the certificates, you will no longer need to manually authorize the installation of the Waterfall Node app on your operating system. We will make an announcement when the certificates have been obtained. 

Here's what you can do with the Test  Waterfall Node Desktop App:

 • Launch a full node and sync with the Waterfall test network

What are the benefits for early Workers?

The fewer Workers participating in a network, the greater the potential WATER earnings for each Worker.

The number of Workers on Mainnet will grow over time. Therefore, after the Mainnet launch, early Workers will be rewarded more.

These higher rewards motivate other participants to join Mainnet early, contributing to increased network decentralization.

We are announcing an upcoming fork on testnet8, scheduled for March 19th at 8:00 UTC, at slot 2,729,920, which corresponds to epoch 85,310

We kindly ask you to update your software before this time, according to the instructions provided at https://docs.waterfall.network/tutorials/setup-docker-node-testnet8/#upgrade-node

The fork includes features such as optimization of node storage, stake delegation, secure cold wallet for staked amounts, space rental for workers on nodes, and other improvements.

Forks allow for software updates and upgrades to the Waterfall network. When Waterfall developers introduce new features or improvements to the protocol codebase, a fork may be necessary to implement these changes.

The protocol update will be implemented via a fork and will include the following stages:

Pre-Fork Stage: All nodes are currently operating based on an older version of the protocol.

Transition Stage: Nodes continue to operate based on the old protocol version, but those that have been updated now possess the functionality of the new protocol.

Post-Fork Stage: Updated nodes now operate exclusively based on the new protocol, while older nodes pause during synchronization. Users of nodes with old protocol are required to update their software, enabling them to resume

Ron Resnick is the CEO of the company-developer of Waterfall, is also a former Executive Director of Enterprise Ethereum Alliance and a former Investment Director of Intel Capital.

Jeff McDonald is the Director at the Board of Directors for Swiss Association, is also a Former Co-Founder of Nem, which used to be in Top-5 and for a short time in Top-3 right after Ethereum.

The Chairman of Board of Swiss Association is Richard Wang, who is also General Partner at Draper Dragon Fund.

R&D team has been rigorously testing technology since 2021.

More than 275 Workers(block producers) on the TestNet are owned by the developers and future users of Waterfall. 

On the first day after the new TestNet announcement, 115 Workers connected and more than 450 000 transactions were processed. 

On January the 2nd more than 650 000 transactions was successfully processed.
